We are giving the kits some more review at this time.

I will still die on the hill of no mod colored tilde and pipe. The set will remain as an icon mods set at this time.

New kitting will arrive in some time. Thank you for your inputs, some of them have even been taken into account.

Why though?  Why some war on mod colored tilde and pipe?

Drop these two so you can support SEVEN R3 1.75u caps? You cover all the bases for what someone might want to put in their caps lock position, but not something that's been in sets for years?

Enjoying this thread haha. For real, who the hell uses stepped control? I always thought people who put a caps lock key on hhkb layout were ****ed in the head. But wait, we wont be using this set on hhkb without a mod colored tilde. So... conflicting...

I read that. I also read the part where he's unwilling to move on this. I'm also not sure why this seems to be a 'trend' in our space right now. You're removed it from Serika, he's doing it here... Dixie talking about it in 8008. Are we really at the point where those two keys are worth removing from the sets? This is the level of optimization required? What if someone uses split backspace... or heaven forbid... PREFERS mod pipe?

Oh, I know... just don't buy it. Sure. I just don't understand why this is a thing.

Even if it is not in the base kit, could it possibly be added in the accents kit? some people really think of them as nice to have (Myself included) and would rather have the price of the kit be driven up to get it(or possibly see them added in a separate kit?).

Same, I guess the best thing to do is to not buy the set unless it changes. Only thing dumber is to continue to **** post.

Second this, I like the colorway, but start removing mod color pipe key without explicit reason (designer's preference over lots of 60% customers' preference?), I just don't understand.

also according to my (admittedly not scientific) polling, more people use stepped ctrl than use mod colored pipe/tilde

especially with the rise of 60 and 65, i think we can start to eliminate these from kits as most people are gonna be using split BS and have esc where tilde normally goes

and besides, with how common split BS is, people will be using the pipe key slot as a backspace/delete, so they'll have a mod color key there anyway because split BS support includes r2 backspace

i /do/ think that supporting a ****load of caps-spot caps in the base kit might be a little much, but i think there's a happy medium there between a base kit and potential extras kit

any sauce to go with that?

You're forgetting about the key that goes above the 1.5u Backspace on 60%/65%, which for a lot of people is mod-colored tilde.

Can put all the caps locks and mod tildes and **** in with the spacebars, I don't care. I'll buy the extra kit that has my stepped control, no matter what comes along with it.
Also, please put 1.5u Function somewhere please, cuz I think I either missed it, or it's not in yet.

OR someone can do a small capped GB for all these keys to get it before the main set even ships. I'll try to get in if someone does it. Can even combine it with the missing keys from Serika 2.

I'm just surprised with all this talk of a single mod colored pipe (IDK I always preferred that to be alpha colored) there are only two or three of us that have mentioned the accent F5-F8 which is what I thought was a big part of what made the original Muted look so good/unique.

Might only be 10-15% of us here using keebs with F rows. I agree with you but if it’s a big deal to the designers oh well.

You're absolutely right, that was selfish. Seems like the gb runners don't want to do both mod keys, so maybe convincing of one would be enough. Tilde would satisfy split backspace users, but leave color symmetry people wanting.

If anything gets cut, I hope it's the R3 text Control and Function. Mixing a single text mod into full icon mods makes no sense aesthetically.

Guten Tag,

These are now all the current kits, OP will be updated when Mr Krel has awoken from his slumber. Keyboard renders will be updated accordingly shortly as well.

Base Kit: moved out a few keys, such as R3 Function, Stepped Control, 2nd 2.25u Shift, F13. Added second B so you can then pick up either the new Extension kit, or either of the Accent kits to fill an Alice/Ergo layout. Added R5 1u Meta key, I chose this legend on purpose over Fn so you won't have two programmable keys with the same legend close to each other when using Fn on R4 as well.
Also R5 is now the default bottom row profile. We decided the interest is sufficient, and instead of having an addon kit that offers the same keys in a different shape, we rather want that additional kit to expand coverage for more layouts.
And changed Page Up/Page Down to Pg Up/Pg Dn.

Extension, adds support for Macro column keyboards, offers the keys that were moved over from the Base kit, a few new ones, has 6u centered spacebar and various spacekeys. Also offers keys to have proper HHKB coverage.

Accent kits now feature all of the original accent keys (Insert and F5-F8), added purple/green return keys so that when you aren't using the accented spacebars, you can still make use of both accent colors. Added spacekeys in accent colors.

International, same but different (modifiers are now R5 instead of R4)

great kits! is there any chance to change the International with a proper Nordeuk++ addon (only more 9 caps)?

What additional countries does this cover?

At a quick glance, Portuguese and Icelandic. Lemme look at it in detail...

EDIT: indeed, Portuguese (Portugal) and Icelandic, plus the undreaded microsoft-euro key.

Then that's a pass, not adding 5-6€ on an already very low demand kit for the sake of 3 people. Sorry!

Is a purple esc for a cleaner accent aesthetic out of the question? I understand it was not included in the original run etc.

Nice that base kit has R5 tho

Also R5 is now the default bottom row profile.
...
Extension, adds support for Macro column keyboards
...

Yes! Wanted to suggest both of these changes/additions. Even added 1.5u Super/Meta keys. Bless up.

Guten Tag,

These are now all the current kits, OP will be updated when Mr Krel has awoken from his slumber. Keyboard renders will be updated accordingly shortly as well.

[...]

Lovely changes, thank you.

Here are a few further suggestions for your consideration:
  • I think you could perhaps even get away with moving the purse locks to the Extension kit? Although, I guess they play into the charm of this set, so Krelbit is probably going to be against that. (Heck, I'm a fan of purse locks myself; but I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea.)

  • At this point, it'd be a very good idea to add mod-colored `~ and \| to either Base or Extension, to satisfy all of the ANSI and split backspace users who asked for them in this thread and on Discord.

  • Extension could benefit from 1.25c and 1c spacekeys, for Alice and standard split 6.25u and 7u spaces, as explained in this post.
That being said, I'd keep these extra spacekeys out of the Accent kits, as they are already sufficiently large.

  • Also, I wanted to throw this out there: Maybe the macro column keys can moved out into a separate kit, just to keep the cost of Extension down for the majority of us who don't need those keys?
Since the macro keys can also serve as generic ortho support, with the addition of just one extra key, R3 1.25u Tab, you could turn this into a very basic 40% support kit.

  • Even if you opt to keep the macro keys in Extension, please consider adding R3 1.25u Tab regardless — this will allow the majority of standard 12u and 13u 40s boards to be covered (using one of the many R3 1.75u keys as Enter, and macro keys for the 1u's).

  • Consider removing the second R4 1u Ctrl key in Extension, or changing it to a more generic legend like Code.
There are pretty much only two kinds of boards that use 2× 1u Ctrl: ortho 40% boards, and vintage OG Cherry 1800 boards (afaik, Maarten's open-source GH80-1800 is the only modern 1800 PCB that supports 2× 1u Ctrl; and it isn't commonly used in the community).

  • Last but not least, consider adding R4 1u 00 to the Extension kit, for standalone numpad support.
The R1 macro keys and = further facilitate this coverage. 00 is a good replacement for the aforementioned second 1u Ctrl, if you decide to remove it. :)

And changed Page Up/Page Down to Pg Up/Pg Dn.
Good man!

Edit: added another suggestion

God damn, hugely appreciate these changes Krel/Oblo. R5 in base is amazing.

Purple esc, insert, F5-F8 is all that is left that I could ask for, but I get that these weren't in the OG.

That's pretty interesting to add R5 alt gr to the international kit. Makes me consider buying it.

We have 3 extra caps lock keys in the base kit and yet no mod colored tilde and pipe which were probably the most requested on the thread.
