GMK Yuri R2 / GMK Skydata

It has been few years since the first run. I have been asked to do another run and here it is. Round 2 offers similar kits to the first round and introduces GMK Skydata, which combines Yuri's light blue with fiery orange as monocolor set. Additionally there is a forties kit and it will bring Yuri's bright colors to smaller layouts. I know not everyone is appreciating working class sign (hammer and sickle) and as alternative for novelties i am offering Cherry Picker kit. I might extend Novelties and Cherry Picker kits with other novelties.

I vote for removing the numpad sublegends (or making them front pad-printed like SysRq and Break).

I also vote for adding 1.25u space to spacebars (both in Forties and Spacebars) and R3 PgUp, R4 PgDn to bases

Second 2.25u space in Forties was probably intended be a 2u.

I agree with your suggestion of putting second 1u Alt and 2× 1.5u Super in the Xtra kit.

But I don't think R3 1u Caps is common enough to warrant including it (see the ortho keycap survey). A generic legend like 1u Code, Hack or Meta would be better since it would also be able to cover Ctrl and Fn as well as Caps.

Nah this are not the latin-cyrillics i would use in my project. The existing Cyrillics which i introduced in Yuri R1 can only be used as they are currently (single Cyrillics). And to make latin-cyrillics properly i need to make completely new Cherry alphabet (say whole alphas) and i got no time for that.  So there will be no latin-cyrillics in this round but cyrillics only.

Nah this are not the latin-cyrillics i would use in my project. The existing Cyrillics which i introduced in Yuri R1 can only be used as they are currently (single Cyrillics). And to make latin-cyrillics properly i need to make completely new Cherry alphabet (say whole alphas) and i got no time for that.  So there will be no latin-cyrillics in this round but cyrillics only.

The renders in that post are not yet representative of what the set will use. Tom is looking into producing proper sublegend molds, with the correct Cyrillic letter shapes, much like what Yuri uses. You guys should probably get in touch, even if Yuri R2 won't be featuring a sublegends kit.

I've planned Yuri themed keyset long time before and struggled to find proper colors. Typical colors for that would be mostly green/olive (because of space programs military roots) with white/beige, orange and red accents. I made it more abstract as back in the days almost every kid wanted to become cosmonaut. Say almost everyone had that childish dream for space travel. So i approached it with more bold colors to reflect that child dream. In the end it still has orange color like Yuri's space suit, sky like light blue and space like dark blue colors.

They are only useful on ortho boards, yep. No modern ≥60% board uses two 1u Ctrls, which is why recent base kits have been dropping the second one.

Аccording to usage data gathered from ortho users in this survey, all of the following R3 1u mods are more popular than R3 1u Tab: '", Ctrl, Shift, Caps; yet Tab is the only one that's included in the kit (besides Esc and Enter). It seems that including a Code key would be beneficial for everyone, both ortho users and yourself.

If you are adamant about not wanting to increase the size of the Forties kit further, then you could replace R3 1u Tab with Code. Again, Tab doesn't seem to be a very popular key in that position, and Code could cover for it as well.

Right now i don't have a deskmat design for Yuri which is worth the production/realization.

As Alternative a community member Outragedpudding made a fantastic design for space cadet keyset and those deskmats were also offered in Yuri colors. Unfortunately they are not selling anymore and the only way to get those is mechmarket.  I hope they'll get a rerun in the future.

I don't know if this kind of feedback is annoying or if it's helpful for your decision making at this point, but I'm interested in the icon mods because I want to pair them with the cyrillic alphas. I don't want to mix the cyrillics with english so I'm disappointed to hear I'd have to do that for the bottom row.

None of constructive feedback is annoying. You pointed out the reason (why you would love to see icon bottom row included) and i absolutely understand that point and i wish i could offer you that. Tho i guarantee you that the current icon mods will already be pricey. And i am very concerned about pricing and i have to compromise at this point - unfortunately.

Alternatively i think you probably have a good chance to get the icon mods kit from round1 at Mechmarket.

Need more 1.25u in novelties like the Kat kits. Many people have 6 1.25u on R1. I want 10 for a Redox so I'd buy 2 because this set is gorgeous.

A suggestion: An R3 1.75u backspace key, perhaps in the Xtra pack.

That way, colemak users can just use cyrillics for the alphanumerics, but still have the colemak backspace key with a correct legend.

why it is not latin with sublegends cyrillic . I love sets like that not where latin and cyrillic are separeted. I know russian a bit and want to have both latin and cyrillic in one place. This doesn't make sense. But this is IC you can still change it. It would also make it stand out of. This is a set about Yuri, which is known by everyone (latin), but he is russian (cyrillic), so sublegends works the best. Otherwise - probably pass the same reason I skipped perestroika

The deskmat which you can see in the album will get its second round soon (I don't know the exact date). That deskmat design was developed by Outragedpudding to match GMK Space Cadet. And since it matched the Yuri theme as well, it is also available in Yuri colors.

Does it make sense value-wise to merge the accent arrows & spacebars? Just a thought, though I vaguely remember doubleshot keys do add a fair bit to an otherwise singleshot spacebar-only kit (could've been you that said that tbh haha). Would be curious to your other thoughts/considerations there. If you decide to keep the kits separated, I'd just think about if F13 would be worth adding to the "Xtra" kit.

Last thing- I know the typical request would be for the glorious kit, but goddamn I have been fiending a rerun of the salty kit since I saw it after getting more into researching keycap history (as someone who loves fighting games). Please consider it for us salty folk. I'd buy a couple, and I have never bought dupes of a kit so far haha. <3

Most people will get Cyrillics with the base kit or for their existing round 1 Yuri. Why should they buy duplicate keys?

I'd like to see the Cyrillics kit come with a full number row. Otherwise, I'd have to buy the entire base kit just for the missing numbers. I don't need anything else in the base kit.

Yeah, I get that I'm in the minority but if anyone wants to sell or trade their cyrillics kit they'd also have to give away their entire base as well. If the cyrillics had the 7 missing keycaps, base + cyrillics could completely cover multiple keyboards. IDK, guess I'm just bummed R1 had a complete cyrillics kit but a few keys were dropped in R2. I assume the 7 caps were dropped to reduce the price, and out of curiosity how much does that end up reducing the kit price? I've been trying to find the R1 version on MM, but I'm not having much luck.

The quotes are unknown and quotes have very complicated formulas. I can only assume that it might make between 5 and 10 $ difference.

My plan was to only buy the cyrillics this round to get nice looking alphas again.

Do I really have to buy the entire set now to get an E, C and M?

Wow removing three keys makes this kit totally useless for multiple purposes. Did it really bring down the cost that much?
For example, alphas kit + forties usually is enough for an ortho in sets that offer those two kits, bringing  down the total cost to cover a board significantly.

Hmm, this is a good point. While I'm always for removing unnecessary keys from kits, this use case is quite reasonable as it's only three extra keys. Being a R1 owner myself, I can get behind this request even though my R1 base kit isn't shined up too much yet. Despite that, the difference in texture between those keys and the brand new ones might still be noticeable, and it may end up bothering me. So +1 to adding E, C, M back to the kit.

Not sure which ortho layout you do mean but you can't fit Forties + Cyrillics on a plank. You will miss keys for the bottom row which are part of base kit. This is also not a standalone kit but an extension to the base kit (from this or the first round).
Alternatively to cover plank you could take Forties + Xtra + Cyrillics. That might work if you ignore wrong labeling on few keys.

To save the cost and there are not so many only icon fans to justify higher cost. If someone wants such specific bottom row then i am sure one can find it on MM from the first round. Most people (including myself) are fine with the classic icons .

Anyway as this hobby grows it draws quite a lot of attention and everyone basically needs to get permission in order to use logos, fonts and everything what might be covered by IP or Trademarks.
In this particular case we reached out to Cherry in order to get permission to use their vintage Cherry logo for Cherry Picker kit. Cherry kindly asked us to use their current official Logo and i am respecting this with following changes.

Cherry Picker kit
- Changed (on official request from Cherry) vintage Cherry logo to the current official Cherry logo
