I personally think that BFL on GSM is a closer replica, but those six looks good.  :)

All six look awesome, but the BFJ on GSM looks the most like the real deal, so I'm going for that one. Altough WA on GX would be a bit more subtle... I like subtle keys!

BFJ on GSM is indeed the closest and the one I like the most.
I wouldn't want a black/white one. It would be like doing the VIM key in black/white, kinda pointless :)

Agreed. I didnt like the idea of the "logo colors" at first when I just pictured it in my head it actually looks great.

Anyone thats willing to step up and recieve the package from SP? Then that person could either do all the distribution (atleast south/north american orders) or just get his own keys out of the package and just forward the rest of it to me in Sweden as a gift with $20 value. We'll get murdered on VAT and import tax otherwise (just VAT is 25%)

Hi Geekhack.

TL mod here, I just stumbled upon GH today, when I was researching some stuff because I want to buy a mechanical keyboard and saw this thread on the overall forum index. Natually it sparked my interest :)
Sounds awesome, hope it'd work with the Filco I just ordered. I don't think Nyovne really understood what the thread was about when he closed it (neither would I have understood I think), and we get tons of bad advertising threads all the time, so we close them easily.
Anyway, I can talk to an admin/owner about this project if you guys want (edit: rereading this thread it seems that Wihl already talked to someone, who did you talk to about it if I may ask).

Either way I'm gonna order a TL key :) If I can figure out how that is...

Carnac!

@Wihl
I'd be down for receiving the package, not ideal as living in the US but I live in Canada.  I just joined this forum however, and don't really know what's involved in terms of shipping out to everyone and everything - so I understand if people are more than a bit uneasy about letting me handle it haha

Hi Carnac!  ^^

Will definitely fit the Filco you ordered.  Fits all Cherry MX stem.  It seems like this group buy will happen once we figure out what colors to choose.  Seems like Wihl's commandeered the group buy, so we'll probably eventually just PM him with how many/what colors to choose.
Check out the poll first.  :D

Wihl, I can help!  School starts in September though, so it might be awhile before I have a definite address.  Maybe we can get TL in on this too, with the aid of Carnac.

He talked about it earlier:
Quote from: Wihl;396031
I have been talking to one of the Teamliquid admins and they would prefer it if this was kept off their site. They dont have any issues with 50 people on geekhack getting together for a group buy though. In the end, we are using their logotype - even if we do not profit from it I think we can all understand that its a touchy subject. TL is not just a group of nerds these days but a company.

As someone that works with brands and marketing on a daily basis I can definately understand why they are hesitant to allow it. Let's respect their decision guys. I'm sure we can get enough people for this group buy even without plastering it all over teamliquid.net.

Since he says he talked to Hot_Bid, he definitely talked to the right person, which is what I wanted to know. So not much I can do. I think it'd look sick on the Liquid team players' keyboards, but since the SC2 team is Razer sponsored there might be an issue with that also.

Still, if this gets going I'm gonna order a couple :)

Well the color poll will stay open for a few more days and then I'll create the order thread. Seems like there's a couple of people in the US that are willing to help with distribution so I don't forsee any huge issues. :)

I just hope that SP doesn't **** up :p Already got a guy that wants 25 keys so I dont think we'll have any issues getting an ok volume discount. I'm thinking maybe 50-75 orders in total (with unlimited keys per order)?

So uh... is that key in the lead really BFJ? The light blue simply aint the same as the other ones with BFJ. What color is it really? No point in changing the poll at this point, seems pretty obvious what the winner will be but.. that cant be bfj.

It is the same color, it's just the background color of the key that's wrecking havoc on your sense of color.

Doesn't seem to be BFL either. Here are the RGB values:

BFL: 62 152 204
"Unknown": 80 150 210
BFJ: 108 163 201

From the logo on the TL Home page: 122 184 225

Are we 100% sure that the latest design is compatible? This is what I recieved from Melissa at Signature Plastics:

legend space: 0.356" wide x 0.428" high
minimum spacing (including islands - i.e. the nose of the horse): 0.020"
minimum line thickness: 0.012"

Been thinking about pricing as well. Would $5 for the first key ($4 for each additional key) + $3 delivery be ok?
Price would need to cover:
Production cost
Shipping materials
Shipping from SP to US distributor
Shipping from US distributor to me
Shipping from me to everyone

If there is any profit on my end (unlikely) I will donate it to Doctors Without Borders.

I'm Swedish. Shipping abroad to anywhere shouldn't be more than $3 in an envelope with a bit of bubblewrap (up to 20 grams). Registered in a small box would be $15.

Need someone to recieve the package from SP in the US and then forward it to me as a gift with a low dollar value. A few people have talked about them wanting to do something but I have nothing confirmed yet. I really need to know before I start the "real" group buy thread. Otherwise the price per key will rise by atleast 25%

what are the eu shipping rates up there?
can you cover all the europeans, so we wouldnt have to pay overseas shipping multiple times
There are three scenarios:
a) I order from SP and the keys are sent to someone in the US. That person then forwards it to me. I handle shipping globally.
b) I order from SP and the keys are sent to someone in the US. That person takes all the US orders out of the package and distributes them. He or she forwards the rest to me.
c) I order from SP and the keys are sent to someone in the US. That person distributes all orders.

Based on the information that Posten (swedish royal mail / usps equivalent) has on their website it will cost me about $3 to distribute globally. That means shipping in a normal envelope with the key in bubblewrap with a total weight of less than 20 grams. $15 for trackable package.

edit: actually there's d) as well where I just get it shipped to me but price would rise by atleast 25%

yea.. i edited it out, because i realised, that it doesn't really save a lot of shipping costs compared to c)

Seems like we'll have to change color from GSM to BO. GSM turned out to be - grey.

This is a photo of the colors we should be using instead. BFJ on BO:

Please note the lighting differences between the two pics - compare both BFJ's and see they're quite different under two different lightings.

I feel like BO is a nicer blue, but the BFJ in both pictures look very different from one another

EDIT: Perhaps if we can get a picture with all three color swatches in the same lighting environment that would help alot.  Preferably a top down view of just those three colors.  I don't have any swatches so I can't create said image

Indeed, sadly I don't have a color swatch so I personally cant really do anything. Lighting / white balance seems to be off for every single picture I've found.
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/fssbzz/90b780bd.jpg

Seems odd that there's not a single good picture.

BFJ on BO then? Or does anyone else have a better idea? Will create the group buy with those colors tomorrow otherwise.

Okay it doesn't really bother me which one we pick, its not like lighting is absolutely perfect in my place all the time and i see the color is off by a tiny margin (if it is).  We still need a distributor from the US though..

I have a swatch;  I'd recommend BFN on BFK.  BO is pretty good for background, but BFJ isn't a good fit.
I took a picture, tried to light it well and did auto-white balance on it.  Not sure how accurate the auto white balance is, but it looks more accurate on my screen than the attachment you've got.

DARN THE COLOR CALIBRATION!

From my monitor, BFN looks a little too dull.  I don't think the logo will pop out of the key.  Perhaps BBJ on BFK?
