I both love and hate this thread. So many really really nice pictures of cool boards, yet everyone reminds me how incomplete my life is without a proper camera... :(
Omg! I know exactly that feeling :(

I've taken some really cool shots but I'm not consistent! I'm trying to be more consistent. The rest of the pictures in that album aren't that good imo.

There is actually a lot you can do if you just have some proper lighting.
$30 in lights + $8 for batteries + $15 for charger + $2.50 for a mini tripod = $55 already gets you one of these, which is enough to seriously increase the quality of your photos.

I actually have a really nice light that mistakemistake was kind enough to gift me Jaccow. The reason I don't use it is that I couldn't get a hang of how to setup the lighting so my shots always had tons of shadows in them that were odd looking. But you're right, I should setup some better lighting. Thanks for the tip :D.

Just keep chuggin', brother. I think your photos are just fine but if you want to get better, it'll come with practice and time :)

What kind of lighting are you using? I think your photos are already great but with some better lighting, they'd be perfect!

Also, are you using a macro lens? For you keycap photos, I think you can zoom in a lil' or get closer to get DAT texture, breh :D

WOW.  All I would ask for is a green GMK enter here.  Absolutely superb.  I'm really curious how the keys feel with GMK ABS rather than the ol' PBT.

Yep.  All about the lighting.  You can take really great shots that require (near) zero post-processing if your lighting is spot-on.

CPTBadAss, you should hit me up sometime to talk about your lighting, we might be able to find a way to get rid of those pesky shadows.  ;)

5000k light up top wasn't very bright compared to the 120v 100 watt lights on the sides (more than likely in the incandescent range for color temp).

It's the stock lens. If I remember right it's a "EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens". Most of the shots are at 55mm, so full zoom. No macro lens because I'm renting this camera from the school for a photography class and because I'm sure they're expensive :(

All shots were on a tripod with a 2 second delay before taking the exposure. Aperture tended to be around F5.6-F6.3 and a 1/30 shutter speed. ISO always at 100.

Can you give some hints on what to search for to find what you've got on your desk there?  I've stumbled upon similar setups, but can't remember what search terms I used, and now all I'm finding are much bigger setups.

I have a bit of a different set up, but I use

http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-150-Watt-Incandescent-Clamp-Light-CE-300PDQ/100354511?N=5yc1vZbm8p

and

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018OS06S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

In fact, I still have a pair of the bulbs that I'm not using at the moment.  And I need to reattach the back of my light box

Not sure what all exactly he has, but it looks similar to one of these. You can mount it on camera or on a tripod and you can turn the brightness up and down. Comes in handy for a lot of different projects!

Oh wow! That setup is quite something! Hmmm maybe you're adding a lil' too much light directly on the subject? I think if you tried lowering the light levels and used a different form of light it'd help a little. The incandescent light you're using is most probably distorting with the color balance of your photos because of the yellowish light it gives off (I never use my ceiling light for my photos because I get a yellow-washed overall look). I think using white fluorescent lights will greatly help you.

That Coffee set is nice, and Cherry legends is a bonus.  I just wish I'd had the funds to get one.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

That Coffee set is nice, and Cherry legends is a bonus.  I just wish I'd had the funds to get one.

Yeah rowdy, i hope you will get one soon ;)

Thank you, really liking that coffee set as well. I would love one but I just don't know what I would put it on. (I am addicted to coffee :P)

I don't know if there are any other LOD keycaps out there, I think I saw someone with a messed up one where the face was upside down but I don't think there are any others.

Have you posted the full picture from your avatar before? Not sure if I missed it or anything.
