Ok here is an image of the schematic of what i am looking for but in a rotary switch not a standard lever style.

Sorry about the wierd size of the image in relation to the actual subject but paint wouldnt' let me crop it.

Must be over my head, since I've never heard of a momentary switch in a rotary style

I've heard good things FreeCAD but I've never tried it. I have SolidWorks at home.

Solidworks all the way, especially if you're a beginner. It's nice and simple. Very intuitive and easy to use unlike autocad etc.

I've used both.

In my opinion Autocad is 100x better for 2d designs and shear speed of drawing. If I want to see something in 3D, then I'll use solidworks.

I don't need the features to export to a CNC friendly format just want to try and draw up stuff and just can't seem to get the hang of Google Sketch up.  Just want something simple-ish.

where can I get 80g (greens/whites) springs?

apparently sherryton's springs have some controversy around them regarding their true weight.

Trade for it  ^-^ . That'll get you some true original cherry springs.

I'll dig up some white springs and give you some. You can have some clear ones too if you need.

I've got some Clear springs I could get rid of, but Green and White springs will likely be a little harder to find since they're less common.  Like WFD said, you can try and trade for some or buy some though.

If you can't find any, it might be worth just trying out the ones from Sherryton and seeing how you like them.  They're not too terribly expensive.

How large of an investment is it to make ergo-clears?

I have tested the clears and the browns. The force to press of the clears is a bit too much for me. The browns... they're fine, but now I get why people say it feels as if there was some dirt stuck in there. The clears don't have that which is nice. So are ergo-clears a happy medium?

On paper ergo-clears sounded great to me. In actuality, ergo-clears felt like Browns to me and they tend to jam. Like you press down on the keys and they stay in the down position. I prefer stock Clears and despise Browns. And I've tried ergo-clears on Hashbaz's Universal Switch Tester as well as i3oilermaker's QFR. You can also check my Wiki page in my signature for more in-depth thoughts on switches. And what do you mean by "investment"? Time or money?

Edit: listen to Jdcarpe. I'm not actually sure how much the time investment is. Plus he's got that Vulcan knowledge
Thanks for replies everyone. When I asked the question I guess I was thinking about money, but as few GHs pointed out time is a resource as well. I will see if anyone brings ergoclears to the NYC meetup. If they stick more than it is not something I'd like.

Which video are you referring to? Well either way, I use kimwipes with alcohol to clean after soldering. They're disposable microfiber that doesn't leave lint. I worked in a biotech lab, so I get them free. But I believe these are the same ones:

Got a couple questions mostly related to dimensions of key caps and stems.  I would much prefer precision dimensions with accuracy of either .001" or .01mm.

Here is a list of dimensions I am looking for.

Depth of the stem on caps lock key

Difference between vertical centerlines of the stem on center stem and offset stem

Also would anyone have a few extra crap caps lock keys I could get to sacrifice to the ideas floating in my melon?  I can pay for them if need be.  Be advised they won't be coming back.

There are no "Best" boards. What are you looking for: Low price, high quality, finish, switch preference? Depending on what you're looking for besides LEDs and TKL will give you different answers and opinions. If there was a "best board", then we'd all have the same keyboard and switch.

Switch shouldn't matter as I want to try different stems and springs, but preferably blue or green.  Just looking for a real solid feeling that won't bend whilst pressing  keys and I have my own caps I'd like. It'd be nice to have in a black matte.  Also I'd want something easy to take apart for modding, as well as a detachable cable.
Thanks,  panthers

Um I think you should just get a QFR. If you think "switches don't matter" than I'm not sure how I can properly answer the question...There's a lot of mods for it that have been floating around. And it's plate mounted.
