wasd keycaps balding after a month
« on: Wed, 24 October 2012, 22:19:23 »
I bought a set of blank keycaps from wasdkeys and after a month I can see them balding (looking shiny) already. I have been playing FPS games so the wasd keys are noticeably shinier, but even the surrounding keys look a little different. I always have clean hands when using my keyboard (I hate oily electronics) and my 5 year old g15 doesn't seem to be getting as worn.  Is this common with their keycaps?

Yes. They are made from ABS plastic, which wears down rather quickly. You might want to search for a set of PBT plastic keycaps. They are much more durable.

Patrick has some available here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34366.0 those are for Poker keyboards

Here are full sets from qtan on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/104-PBT-White-Engraved-keycaps-for-Mechanical-keyboard-Cherry-Filco-Noppoo-/300598729920?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item45fd149cc0

Or from feng on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KBC-White-Printed-PBT-Cherry-MX-Key-Caps-104-keys-included-/330757195528?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item4d02aa4708

All 3 are excellent vendors.

Oh no... you should get the deluxe PBT full set from my groupbuy instead. Many legend options to choose from, but only white base color.

Thanks MMB and Lysol, Do any of the vendors offer them in black? I see the pokers do, but will they work on my quickfire rapid?

You can just surf through each vendors ebay store, I am pretty sure they will have what you need. lysol's group buy is strictly for blank white PBT or Blue dyesub on white PBT caps.

I'd get these. It will be a bit before they are delivered, but they are going to be boss as hell once they do come
