[IC] The Moiie - A Deluxe, Vintage Inspired, Keypad
« on: Thu, 23 April 2020, 19:58:27 »
The Moiie Keypad
An Apple iie inspired keypad for the lovers of vintage mechs.

CURRENTLY JUST GATHERING INTEREST IN THIS HERE GOOGLE FORM

Let me know your thoughts!

The Mo*iie* came to me in a dream many moons ago. We see all these vintage/retro inspired keysets, full keyboards, cables...

But where are my macro/key pads?!

The Inspiration

My Vision of a Modern Revision (renders)

Currently Gathering interest for both 3D Printed and CNC Milled Units

After a few weeks on my desk, I absolutely love the idea of having this be a UNIT of Milled Metal on my desk as a classy keypad but Realistically, I’m very very aware of what that would cost to mill.  Not everyone is ready to shill out somewhere in the neighborhood of $150-$200 (estimate, depending on interest) for a keypad.

But none this less gathering interest. 3D Printed version GB/Stock run is likely to happen before any type of further, more serious mass production run begins to be looked into.

The Project Specs - Most are very subject to change.

• The PCB

 -   *Gathering interest for compatibility options* (MX/ALPS/CHOC, Etc.)
 -   x3 Ind. Addressable RGB LED Indicators
 -   x3 Spots for Rotary Encoder Positioning
 -   USB Type-C
 -   Fully Powered by QMK Firmware

 -   Decent Layout Compatibility:

• The Case

 -   7° Steep Typing Angle
 -   “Floating Bed” Styled Case
 -   Inset Switch Beveling
 -   4mm Integrated Switch Plate (**Very Tentative*)
 -   Two-Part Case, Accentuating the seam because life’s too short to be seamless.
 -   No fills, just class

• VERY interested in looking into these features:

 -   Integrated Cable.  Some like this, some hate this, but I think it fits the theme very well and one less Cable to have to wear out I suppose lol
 -   Brass weight.        If we do CNC, it will already be expensive.  So if we ball out...we are gonna BALL OUT.
 -   Analog Sliders.      This is iffy but I love the idea.  QMK needs to have more clear support before this though.
 -   Maybe Hotswap.    I could see this happening

• 3D Printed Prototype

Cost?!

- 3D Printed - Sub $75.00 USD Full Kit

- CNC Milled - *Minimum $150.00 USD Full Kit (yikes)

*Depends in many, many things (Interest, Material, COVID, Etc.)

When and Now, Also, When?

No time frame currently.  A smaller fun GB is what I’m wanting to do first while gathering interest. So fill out the google form;

THIS HERE GOOGLE FORM GOOGLE FORM

To get on the list if you are at all interested in something like the Moiie.

I also post a lot of smaller little updates on smaller projects like this on My Instagram too if that’s something you like to browse.

Thanks for your input if you give any at all!  Would love to see something like this throughout the community.

Love the layout! Usually I'm not that interested in standalone numpads / macropads, but this really grabbed my attention. Interested in the alu version.

Love love love it.  Working with a lot of spreadsheets I would really appreciate a dedicated numpad with additional keys for ease of use.  I would love this is PC or Alu and would order more than one.

I'm not usually one for standalone keypads but I really like this concept. I'd be in for one either way but would prefer the aluminum version.

Big fan of this design. Ive been on the hunt for the perfect numpad for what feels like forever and this ticks a lot of boxes.

For the integrated cable, I agree that it would really go well with the aesthetic but Im generally against integrated cords. Have you thought about instead of leaving a port on the outside of the case to plug into, moving the plug to the interior and routing a usb cable through a hole in the case during assembly(hopefully that makes sense)? I think this would achieve the look your going for while also allowing for replaceable cables.

Im also a **** for OLEDs right now and would love to see one on here for layer indication, etc. A killer feature would be the ability to use the OLED as a calculator screen to display calculations on the numpad similar to the Ducky Pocket(except more modern).

I've been eyeing a few different macro-pads, but this is the first one that really grabbed me. Love the full num-pad w/ rotary encoder possibilities. I filled out the IC - I would prefer CNC/Premium. Also, have you considered 2-3 USB ports w/ pass-through?

I voted for the same thing!  It would be rad to have a USB hub in this bad boy to connect the main keeb to.

Looove this. I’d much rather pay extra for something aluminum vs just 3D printed. Only
place where I’m not on board is the integrated cable. I’d probably bite either way, but have a strong preference for something detachable

This is so cute! I love macropads and this one feels really unique compared to what has been coming out recently. The bright yellow was a great choice for showing it off, too, it looks really good in brights, like an accent piece.
