I'm getting away with an SSK for the weekend, as long as I'm not up too late typing on it while everyone else is trying to sleep.

Back to HHKB for next week though.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'm going to ignore the obvious questions and get to the real meat of the topic at hand.

How on earth did you get an upside down Menu key?

Alternated through cherry red and cherry blue, but I settled on the 45g Topre switch. Specifically, I'm using a Realforce 45g uniform TKL.

Brand new NMB RT8255C+ with clicky Space Invaders. It's my 3rd space invaders board but being brand new is a little different.

Going to do a review on this keyboard in the near future as it's really quirky. For example, the clicker is a unique piece that doesn't really affect travel (nor can it really be felt). As such, you can activate the key without a click. It also clicks on both the downstroke and the upstroke, but depending on how far you press/release it.

You can also remove the clicker piece easily from any switch, so you can choose which keys are clicky and which are linear. I kind of like not having clicky spacebar, shift, and enter keys.

Very interesting board indeed.

Back to my work horse, the QFR. While the Pok3r is awesome, I truly hadn't realized how much I use the F keys, home/end/page up/page down and arrow keys. Now I know for sure, it's tenkeyless for me.

At work?  One other guy is using a Ducky Shine 1 with green LEDs (my keyboard too, actually).  Everyone else is using membrane keyboards and doesn't seem to care either way.

I got an IBM model F 84 key in my rack today and is typing this words with it now.
But I found some inconvenience with the key sequence of it, and I'm going to keep using my familiar IBM Model M.

Just for typing?  Or for programming, or maybe gaming too?

Since I have bought it, my tasks have involved mostly typing and so I have been typically spending nearly 4-5 hours each weekday doing that. I find the variable to be particularly suited for typing.

I am not a programmer, but I daresay I am going to start programming soon :). I haven't played a game on PC in nearly four years, so I couldn't tell you how good it would be for that purpose.

Thanks for that :)

Everyone says that variable weighting is not good for gaming, and I can understand way, but I don't think I've ever read a comment from someone who has actually tried it.

Using a Realforce 87 UB variable--and loving it!!   ;D

Just for typing?  Or for programming, or maybe gaming too?

Since I have bought it, my tasks have involved mostly typing and so I have been typically spending nearly 4-5 hours each weekday doing that. I find the variable to be particularly suited for typing.

I am not a programmer, but I daresay I am going to start programming soon :) . I haven't played a game on PC in nearly four years, so I couldn't tell you how good it would be for that purpose.

I would be interesting in hearing your feedback about your feels while mixing programming and variable weight. If you don't mind sharing your thoughts with us of course. :)

Thanks for that :)

Everyone says that variable weighting is not good for gaming, and I can understand way, but I don't think I've ever read a comment from someone who has actually tried it.

I can understand how variable would feel weird when playing games. One might expect the same crisp response from an 'A' as from a 'D'--only to be disappointed.

I did a little bit of Verilog and Tcl, but nothing major that would require me spending hours typing special characters the way coders do. However, a majority of these characters being in the 40-30 g range, I would presume the typing to be more ergonomic compared to a 55 g (or even a 45 g). But I cannot be a 100% certain and so I will be sure to share my experience on programming with a variable when I get a chance to do so.

Using a NovaTouch with Vortex PBT+POM Doubleshot caps ATM, waiting on my Jelly POMs from qtan to arrive so I can switch the caps out.  Really want to switch back to a backlit board though, I miss my DS3...

I went back to my KC108 with greys for a while, but it has really started to tire my fingers out. So I switched to my V60 Mini with greens but the cable is a bit short :( Might go back to my RGB KC 104 for a while.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Maybe soon you'll do a controller and LED swap and use that 2595 katushkin.

Infinity, standard layout, MX browns, Hack'd by Geeks. Browns aren't my favorite but they're relatively quiet for here at home. My office is right next to the kids' rooms.

I've downsized my desk here at home, so now I've got a single monitor and a 60% keyboard. Feelin' pretty minimalistic.

For now i'm using a Filco Majestouch 2 Brown which i only have for testing.
My regular KB is the Ducky Zero Brown.
Compared to the Filco the Ducky Zero has more wiggling keys and the spacebar sound on the filco is also better, all in all i would say the filco is the better product even with the higher price.

Silver Koala w/ Purple Dyesub Keycaps, and these ergo clears are the smoothest ergo clears I have ever felt, definitely a big fan of them. I was planning on replacing the switches, but what I will just end up doing is replacing the stickers and adding clear tops as well as SIP sockets.

Brand new NMB RT8255C+ with clicky Space Invaders. It's my 3rd space invaders board but being brand new is a little different.

Very interesting board indeed.

Where did you get it new?  How different is it from used?

I love the space invaders, the NMBs are criminally underappreciated in my opinion.

Anyway, I got a iigs apple keyboard that I'm using, along with my old ducky shine ii with clears.
