When I first learnt about custom mechanical keyboards, it really got my attention and I loved doing it. I want to take this to an another step and I want to make GMK keycaps and sell it, so that I can turn this really fun hobby into something that can earn me some money. How do I send my design to GMK and how do I get it manufactured and how do I sell? If you know the answers to these questions then please let me know. I would really like to get into this business.

Ah, welcome to the business of keycaps! Here, we specialise in maknig money, users be damned. To start, the first thing we should do is make a keyset. How do you do this? Who gives a ****, colors don't matter to the sheeple. Throw random colors on a set and bam, instantly you're getting profit. Ever seen GMK Handarbeit? Just proof that no one cares about these things! Next, you have to find a vendor. Well, you normally would, at least. But since we're a savvy businessman, and vendors would take some of our profit, we can just do this all on our own! "But Mangoes," you say, "don't I have to build trust first?" Nonsense! No one pays attention to that ****. Just sound like you've been here for ages! Talk about the good old times, remind people that artisans used to be cheap when you first started, or that OEM is the only real profile. After this, you just have to ship them out! Or don't no one expects these things to actually be sent to them anymore anyway! Just sell more than you actually make and let the rest "get lost in the mail" and once you say you're sorry, you'll just become a meme and no one will care anymore!
Remember, you're here to make money! Just throw some caps into a strangely designed box, I can guarantee you'll make money no matter what!

Hey, Welcome!
IDK the answers to your questions (sorry lol), but I have one humble request for when you make your debut Sir! Please make it Katakana and add lots of Japanese to the promotional material, even if you speak no Japanese (Google Translate - awesome service if you never heard of it)! I love Japan.
Cheers!

Are their existing tutorials or write-ups on the steps required to run a successful groupbuy?
As far as I know it's just pick some colors / theme then pay someone to render it on some expensive boards in matching colors (even though those boards were FCFS in white or grey only) and hope that a vender other than Kono wants to run your design (I have no idea how people actually solicit vendors). Then if it runs on Kono you're going to buy at least 10 of your own sets, not to flip, but because you're desperate to make MOQ against the 4 other GMK sets they're running that month.
People should just swallow their pride and run DCS Alps Dolch or some such. That's a free easy money. Quick turnaround too.

Do people really do this? Have cases rendered in colours that never existed?
This would be pretty funny.

Renders that feature an Alice often have the logo erroneously filled in with a complementary color (orange fill with GMK Kaiju for example). I remembered seeing J-02 renders in maroon, but as far as I know that color was never offered. I'm going through threads and usually it's just renders of unreleased designs.

Edit: Bento R2 features a poly Alice (has a TGR logo), I didn't think happened either but I'm not sure.

Since I don't see a legitamate reply here, let me put down some thoughts.
Typically, most creators run their designs with the goal to create something that they've envisioned for the sake of diversifying options and bettering the community (although there are exceptions to this), and they are compensated fairly for their time and effort. Usually, it isn't the other way around (earning money priority one). That's looked down upon in this community, and frankly, pretty much in any enthusiast market. And for good reason.
If you do stick around and manage to get your priorities straight, I would start by ironing out a design, then posting an interest check on this forum to gauge interest. Then, reach out to prospective vendors and run the set. But if you just focus on making money, you'll never succeed.
Good luck.
