That's buying a 135$ kit for only using about 15 keys in a 65% or below, even less if you go for the Novelties.

Still an awesome looking set that I'll try to hop on if I can justify letting 90+% of the base kit sit in the box

I suggested during the IC to have the option between a base Alpha kit or a base Hiragana kit, but it was too late to make changes at that point.

Maybe it's possible to have a "frankenstein" set with Hiraganas+novelties and try to find the missing keys for a 65% that I could have laying around from other sets.

been following this set since early in the interest check phase, and it's now officially the first GB where I actually copped every kit, even the artisan (well, every last thing but the deskmat, because my workspace isn't big enough for standard 900mm mats, but close enough)

Not sure yet, but I think it’ll work nicely on polycarbonate. It’s tough to come by quality green keyboards, but I definitely wouldn’t go to aliexpress or anything like that. You have some time to save, it’s gonna be a while.

I will be building a Rama u80-a seq 2 soya with the base kit of this set. It will be my first keeb! I feel like the cream based caps will go good with the off-white of the soya. You should definitely go for the kara in soya!

The keylab keys are pictures, for the swirl it's green mixed in some cream colored resin. I assume each one is a unique pattern as it's just mixed in it. The other is enamel paint

It’s been almost a year since this project finished gb and there’s been no updates on color matching or anything. Sets that ran the same month as this one are starting to be delivered and it would be nice to know what’s going on with this one

The gb runner said that they finally got done colormatching all colors about a month ago or so. There were shipping issues/GMK sent a black cap instead of the cream too, so there were some time delays from that. I believe they contacted Kono too, and they said the ship time was supposed to match the original estimation.

Estimated production completion from GMK was originally 38 weeks from close, however they have been quite delayed with production. We now estimate production completion in Q2 2022.

Designer definitely f-ed up the color matching.  I feel GB runners have to be held accountable in some way if the final product comes out looking too unlike what was promised. I almost bought some extras, glad I held out hoping for an R2. No way I'm going anywhere near another one of this designer's GBs though. I'm not in the discord channel, so does anyone know if the designer posted pics of samples?

Not the designer but someone else got their set and posted on the discord.  You can see the packaging has a more accurate color match than the caps.

Oh damn, lmao. I'll take the L, this is an amateur hobby after all. A little more color sense would have helped (Keeping "warm colors" and "pastels" in mind would have helped with the color matching.) but that comes with experience.

If anything, this just makes me more grateful for GBs like the original Gentleman65 (IYDK it was designed by a middle schooler, and it ended up being one of my favorite builds.)

Keep in mind that a digital RAL color provided on screen (like the designer did in their GB post) isn't necessarily at all accurate. RAL and Pantone swatches can look very different in person, and a designer should be matching their renders to the physical swatch, not the digital representation of the color swatch.

The flaw here is the custom of the community making group buy decisions based on renders only.  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me like 35 times, it's probably my fault by now.  Real color samples should already be in hand when the GB starts.

I bought it because RAL color is provided. It match with render just fine. The problem is, the keycap samples were never reveal on GH thread....
Therefore no one could possibly correct it before production start.

Keep in mind that a digital RAL color provided on screen (like the designer did in their GB post) isn't necessarily at all accurate. RAL and Pantone swatches can look very different in person, and a designer should be matching their renders to the physical swatch, not the digital representation of the color swatch.

My monitor is fully calibrated for design work. I know what I am looking at....

Also, those color chips should match close enough without too far off from samples.
I have bought at least 30 different sets of GMK, and this is one of the only sets I have received with such issue. (Aside from Mizu, but that turns out better than render)

For those who are disappointed with this set, GMK Dandy with alternative base set is closer to the color chips provided than this set. It's an option for those who still looking for similar color scheme.

Well the real life RALs look a lot different from the digital version provided by the designer in the initial post..... And it looks like the keycaps match the physical RALs, based on the pic the designer shared in their server when they received samples. After the first few who reported the problem, I immediately request a refund from Kono....

The colors are way off... Better off buying GMK Dandy base kit with alternative base together to get the same color scheme.

Honestly this was my first group buy experience ever.....I definitely learned my lesson.  Bummer.  Next time I'll go with a designer with rep and good communication.

Facts. I've never even looked at RAL colors before, and it's obvious the designer completely picked the wrong ones. They should've asked others IRL for their opinion/feedback.

It should've been RAL3014, you can see this color peaking out on the right side. RAL3017 is completely wrong because it's a red when dango is pink. The green is a little harder. RAL6011 looks pretty close online, but the color samples don't match. I'm thinking RAL6021 would look the closest.
