To anyone who is in for one set at 50 MOQ ($94): please consider adding a second set at 100 MOQ ($70)?

At first I thought you were talking about some special run nubbinator-made caps that were named Noodz.  Then I realized you were talking about something much better.

EDIT:  Above should be interpreted as praise for Hoff, not a negative statement on nubbinator's caps.

I (obviously) like this idea.

If you buy a 2nd set at $70 and we tip, you pay $46 more for twice the caps. You can then go and sell them in the classifieds for less than the group buy price if you wanted to, and break even.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Everybody pays the lowest price depending on the MOQ we hit. So if you committed at $94 but we reach 100 sets, you only pay $70.

This is just like any other group buy in that sense. I'm not sure where the other ideas came from but it's just making things confusing so let's put it to rest.

It makes economic sense, it's basically price slicing, people would be charged depending on what they would be willing to pay. However, i feels like it should be wrong when it is this blatant, so people wouldn't go along with it.

Someone should send this in to the "freakonomics" podcast, if they haven't done a podcast on that behaviour yet.

To anyone who is in for one set at 50 MOQ ($94): please consider adding a second set at 100 MOQ ($70)?

I have also thought of doing this, but I will wait for the inevitable late minute rush first.

Inverse supply and demand. If the demand is high the price goes down.

But if everyone waits for the last minute rush... then there is no last minute rush.

If you feeling like going in for another set at 100MOQ, do it straight away! I'm going to assess my finances this evening and decided.

I just feel like this needs to be said...

I don't want anyone going in on this set for more than they ought to. There is still a lot of time left on this buy. Let's remember that these are, after all, just keycaps.

I've also got a couple of irons in the fire, pretty cool stuff that I can't talk about right now, but suffice it to say that I'm not worried about MOQ at this point, and nor should you be. I believe we'll hit 100 sets one way or another. So please, please don't do anything financially irresponsible for the sake of a few pieces of plastic.

My bad for derailing the thread and probably confusing people.  :(

I didn't intend to suggest that we, the 50 MOQ group, should subsidize another tier.  I understand that would not be fair.

I'm happy just to be in the 50 MOQ tier. It's a fair price to pay for the FIRST community driven alps keycap buy.

Mind you, I don't feel a need to order 2 sets of Alpine Winter, but I do sincerely hope that this will result in more community alps buys.
The Alps cover 65% of Switzerland's surface area (41,285 km˛), making it one of the most alpine countries. Despite the fact that Switzerland covers only 14% of the Alps total area (192,753 km˛),[2][3] many alpine four-thousanders (48 of 82) are located in the Swiss Alps and practically all of the remaining few are within 20 km of the country's border.

Yes. The proper HHKB layout differs from a standard 60% in:
 - split Backspace (plenty of 1u caps provided for that place)
 - Backspace instead of \| (is provided)
 - split right Shift (both 1.75u Shift and 1u Fn provided)
 - bottom row 1u - 1.5u - 6u or 7u spacebar - 1.5u - 1u (all those caps are provided)
 - Control instead of Caps Lock (provided)

The only thing is if you are on a Mac, the 1.5u bottom row keys are "Command", and there are no such caps, so either get blanks or live with "Alt" written there ;)

Happy Monday!

In case you missed the news this weekend, I'm pleased to announce that Alpine Winter now supports the Monarch 60% + LHTK Custom, via an exclusive blank numpad adapter!

The numpad blanks kit costs $16, and you can order it through koalapear. Remember, this kit is exclusive for Monarch buyers, as a strict condition of the individual who is making this possible.

To save on shipping, I will be sending all numpad adapter kits directly to koalapear, who will include them with your Monarch kit. Koalapear will notify me when you order a kit and I will invoice you directly once the Alpine Winter buy closes.

Hey, any plans for a 1.75x blank or fn key?
Nope. Haven't had any interest in one. What layout are you thinking of?

standard ansi, but i replaced the caps lock key on my v60 with fn.

also, since i rarely use/check geekhack, would it be better to put my reddit username in the gb form?

Username is up to you. It's mainly in case I need to PM you, so whatever is the best way to do that.

Ctrl, Caps and Shift. There's no 1.75 backspace. And BTW, the 1.75 Shift is in a different row profile than the Caps Lock key.

more like i'll be buying only blanks and then sourcing other pieces from mechmarket later... my wallet simply cannot handle this :(

FYI blanks and other extras are strictly sold as add-ons (except the Geekhack novelties).

Edit: never mind... I forgot my own rules there for a sec.

Awesome news, Alps fans. Thanks to a big order from a reseller, we're all set to tip the 100 MOQ!

I can't give any details at this time (per the reseller's request), but the order is for 15 sets, which as of this writing puts us at 105 base kits sold!

I'll be updating the order form shortly, but rest assured this is a committed order.

We did it, guys! 100 Alps keycap sets! Woohoo!!!
