Update - Oct 8
- Manufacturer has shipped ~90% of boards to me (should be here hopefully this week or next week - pending import/customs/etc)
- Some remaining units require PVD re-finishing of the internal weight.
- AN-C PCBs had stabilizer 6.25U cut out issues (replacements have been ordered. See below)

What's next?:
- Units will undergo QC.
- Take this time to check your order and shipping address. (Reply to your ORDER CONFIRMATION email for verification and record keeping).
- We are not ahead of schedule just yet. If you receive a tracking number notification, this means your order is being prepared (please give us time to put together, pack, and ship your order. When your packaged is SCANNED by the carrier, it will indicate that your order is now on the way to you.)

Please reply to your confirmation email if:
- You ordered a WKL/HHKB top AND need a pcb that works with 6.25U spacebar.
- You ordered a Standard top order and do NOT need 6.25u, I can ship your order with the b-stock pcb. Otherwise, you will have to wait for the correct pcb (which are in production). A refund of $10 will be applied before your order is shipped.

I was promised stanky stank in the IC thread. I will be very disappointed and feel cheated if I open the package and it doesn't reek

Boy, I sure hope someone will swing by and explains to me the pros and cons if these plate materials.
I mean, we all know this will be a bouncy boi, but how bouncy is, say, FR4 vs. Carbon Fiber? Sound profiles?

I would like to know as well. I was told that POM is is just a tiny bit more rigid than PC but that's just based on one person. More info among all these plate materials is very much welcome for some of us.

Rigidity @ 1.5mm thickness:
Brass > Carbon Fiber > Aluminum > FR4 (fiberglass) > Polycarbonate > POM (acetal)

Sound (I suggest you explore these yourself):
CF: unique sound signature, would suggest youtubing videos.
FR4: same material used in fabricating PCBs
Polycarbonate: commonly used in CDs and DVDs
Acetal: used in guitar picks and turntable platters.

Some high-powered math - the 300 max number posted in this thread minus the in-stock number here https://store.projectkeyboard.com/collections/sirius/products/preorder-sirius-1

I might have been able to pull off a calculation that complex, maybe, if I had seen the stock number on the buy page. Not sure how I missed that—maybe it wasn’t there from the beginning? Anyway, thanks.

Not sure if this has been asked elsewhere, but does POM turn yellow over time? If so, slower/faster than more commonly used keyboard and cap plastics?

Slower than other plastics.

ABS and PBT plastic tends to yellow due to photo degradation. ABS and PBT plastics are made with a bromine fire retardant. Oxidation from other things like biodegradation (your nasty neckbeard cheesepuff hands touching it) can, and will naturally happen, but that bromine flame retardant speeds up the process AND allows the vector of UV light to catalyze a photodegradation process.

Luckily for us, Polyoxymethylene (POM) has a very low oxygen index, meaning it doesn't have some of these flame retardants in it.

Thanks for the detailed response. That’s good to know, and interetsing as well.

POM is somewhat flamable, though, isn’t it? Is that because it lacks the fire retardant that’s in ABS and PBT? I would hope it’s not so flamable that something like a pcb short would be a fire danger.

Kinda par for the course. You can't stop degradation via oxidation, you can only slow it by not being an animal and washing your hands/lay off the cheetos. People have had luck using this: https://www.amazon.com/Marianna-Super-Star-Creme-Developer/dp/B00FKVYCHQ/ , but again, the oxidation releases chemicals from the plastic, so it's still going to be different then when you got it, even after cleaning.

Aesthetics mostly, as well as just making your keeb a thicc chunk on your desk that takes effort to move (typically a good thing). The brass weight will affect the sound, but not necessarily make it objectively better or even affect it to a point where you can hear a difference.

The way I think about it is that I'm spending so much money on this premium keyboard... I best be maxing it out.

In theory the weight should lower resonant frequency and improve the sound. With a light plastic case it might also prevent it from vibrating under your hand, but it's mostly for sound.

People will bring up sound, but with a plastic keyboard it will probably change how easy it is to bump and move around your desk; if it's too light it will move around very easily.

I am still thinking about getting that kit despite using small ortho boards.
So i got a few questions:
- does xd75 pcb (5x15) fit?
- how hard is to design a plate that matches the pcb/case, what tools/sw do i need (i am on linux)?
- where can i order custm pom plates (eu)?

So is light the main issue? Would skin oils really be much of a problem? I'm considering joining but my hands are fairly sweaty/greasy. I wash them pretty religiously but they get oily when doing anything for a decent amount of time.

So is light the main issue? Would skin oils really be much of a problem? I'm considering joining but my hands are fairly sweaty/greasy. I wash them pretty religiously but they get oily when doing anything for a decent amount of time.

This works out for me if so. My room is fairly dim most of the time.  :thumb:

I imagine the GB thread link was only posted so that discussion would move to the appropriate thread.
