Slow downloads on my Linux machine.
Narrowed it down to a software issue, as I've installed a new gigabit ethernet pci card. Still exactly the same slow download speeds.

Is it connected at gigabit or using the wrong module?  Unlikely on two cards but they could actually be the same chip :))

I didn't really think that it could be the same chip.
It says connection speed: 1Gbps.
However when I do a speedtest I get this result:

My connection is 150/150.

EDIT: After checking I can at least say it's not the same model.
The new one installed is a TP-link, while the one on the motherboard is a intel.

Down slower than up, very strange.  Though Linux limiting network speed would be even stranger...

I guess you've tried the usual putting something else on that cable/port in the switch/router to confirm the problem is the computer but not sure what else it could be.  Have you tried an alternate OS perhaps, a live BSD CD/USB?

No that's my next step. Trying a different os that is.
I'm pretty certain that an update borked it.
Yeah tested out the switch and the cable, no issues there.

I had some issues with a TP-link PCIE wifi card some years ago.  Issue was worse in Win 10 Home (both auto & TP-link drivers) compared to Linux distros, but still pretty bad for a PCIE device.  Probably a decent company and I should have sent it back *shrugs*.

Apex Legend downloads from the EA server @ 98MB/s

This is clear indicator of an Evil corporation peddling digi-crack...

Am uninstalling.

Blizzard is a much more responsible company,  it only sends games out at 74MB/s

I've tested it pretty extensively and I can't find fault anywhere but with software.
I don't think it's the tp-link software to be clear, it's some Linux update that borked it.
Ah well, I eneded up changing distro's... again.

Did you try alternate CPU schedulers and the like first?  The distro shouldn't make much difference unless they're using random kernel patchset, most of the code in both kernel and browser is done upstream which is the whole point.  It worked, I'd have had to stick with it and work out why it was so slow so I could send a bug report.  Too late now though :(

I need to get better at troubleshooting Linux. As it stands now I don't know where to begin. Do you know of any good reading for such things?
Debian, arch. Doesn't matter what. I'll try out whatever you link me. :D

How tf do admins remember all their usernames and passwords? I've so many damn accounts and logins I sometimes lock myself out just cycling through them to get into somewhere I haven't been in ages.

Password managers.
Last Pass, 1pass, keypads. Etc.
Personally use LastPass and like it but there are many options.

Use password as default password for all passwords. Write it on a bit of paper and stick it under your keyboard. Also tell five of your closest coworkers in case you forget.

Like this one time in Dubai, when the gate combo to our compound got changed and everyone wrote the new combo on bits of paper. This one ****head, dropped said bit of paper and caused the combo to be changed again. And then someone did it again and then an angry email came out, saying don't write the gate combo on paper. It was not super effective and within like three weeks the combo got changed again.

Yep, see there--they cheaped out and bought the gold leaf paper when they should have bought a pad of gold leaf post-it notes.

Actually, another thing that's bothering me...
There is this one ad playing on youtube for some random Steelseries board (maybe another company, I don't know)
and it insists that the mechanical keyboard switch was first created in 1974 (or 1984).
This REALLY irritates me because this is AGAIN propaganda for friggin' Cherry. It INFURIATES me.
CHERRY DID NOT INVENT THE MECHANICAL KEYBOARD! THEY DIDN'T INVENT SWITCHES! AAAAGHHGHGH!!
Linears are for linear people. No offense if you use linears.
I prefer tactile switches, I'm reluctantly using the AULA SI-859 and my pronouns are she/her.

having a good audiologist is the key... I've been very inconsistent with mine and so far due to appointment availability and only 1 has done a decent job.

If u ever get a chance to go to an audio show sometimes they'll take them on site for you. or better yet get your ears 3d scanned and go with a company that'll do 3d printed shells

Overall Sifo,  I'm not convinced that molded shells are better.

They can not replicate the resonance properties of the ear/head area.  They're still measuring a point source.

The claims for custom mold is to minimize interference , but it fundamentally adds its own form of harmonic distortion as it simply is not the sound format of a natural acoustic experience.

Today I got an e-mail from my bank, after 16 years they've decided I'm no longer a student and are taking away my interest free overdraft.  They're not wrong - I've not been a student for 13 years and 5 years ago I told them this when I set up my mortgage.  I never used the overdraft even when I was a student so it's not really a problem but I've always enjoyed laughing that it's there to be abused if needed and now it won't be.

How much can you overdraw on that interest free ?

Being as the only way to get it increased is to use it and pay it back or ask (neither of which I've done) it's what they thought was reasonable for someone who had never had any income back in 2003 - £1200.  Not a huge amount but enough for any random hobby related purchase...  I should probably ask them to increase it now :))

How much time is it interest free,  u could've overdrew, bought weed, sold weed, then come out +10000%.. Master Dr00g dealer.   Then enter the pharaceutical industry peddling opiods as pain killers addicting them housewives and rich people.

Woke up latish, realised I hadn't put my phone on charge so no music at work.  Plugged it in anyway and it didn't want to charge, took 5 mins to convince it but it is now.  Turned on computer - keyboard doesn't work, boot screen (Linux) filled with debug messages.  Pressed reboot, it crashed instead.  Rebooted and it worked, until I went to eat and came back - keyboard dead again.  Un/re-plugged it and it's working, for now.  Now I have 10 mins 'til I have to go to work so no time to debug and be able to buy anything needed to fix it before the weekend.

Why always a Friday?!

Used my bodies ventilation cycle to clean my keyboard. Got a face full of dried cum. Well that is my guess as to what it is.

Are you a software tester? Having a dedicated QA person is my dream that will never come true.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

It's confirmed, the USB socket on my trusty old Nokia 808 pureview is practically dead.  Back to carrying a 'huge' fragile phone :(

And then I go to open my bag and the zip breaks.  It too has been a bit dodgy for a while but has gone from 96% functional to 50% (unusable) overnight and now I need a bag before Monday with zero research.

I daren't touch anything for fear it dies!

Having been in the construction industry for many years, it is a given that "moving parts" are almost destined to eventually be points of failure.

Small sockets on portable devices in particular - I am astonished that they don't fail far more often than they do.

After my wife brought home an Apple laptop a few years ago with a magnetic power connection, I have been obsessed with the efficacy of that concept. I bought 3 of these (1 for home, 1 for car, and 1 for work) along with some extra end plugs (also some "C" tips in anticipation of future purchases). With a connector in each of my commonly-used devices, I can switch back and forth with ease. Also, it can easily be done one-handed, in the dark, from an awkward position!

"It turns out that for a decade, whenever Trump wanted to get a loan, or make a deal, he would inflate the value of his real estate. For instance, suggesting that his 11,000-square foot penthouse was a 30,000-square foot penthouse.
And the attorney general of New York knew that Trump's property values were inflated because when it came time to pay taxes, Trump undervalued the very same properties.
It was all part of a very sophisticated real estate practice known as “lying.”

MagSafe was great so it's interesting to see similar concepts using the C-type bidirectional socket. Looking at the eBay screenshots though: 480Mbp/s transfer rate? That's USB 2.0 speed.

True, I've been really clumsy for nearly three months and knocked my phone onto the floor while it was charging more in this time than I have in many years previously.  I'm using my old phone as I don't trust myself not to smash the screen on my new one (again, already replaced it once) but in doing so rediscovered my love for it's tiny (by modern standards) size.

I want to be healthy and waste money doing up my bike not tired and useless spending on fixing things or worse, preventing damage that should never be happening in the first place.  I do like the idea of interchangable magnetic chargers though so might make an exception...

I absolutely love mine and would not want to go back. The only downsides of this particular model are that the (sturdy) cable is a bit on the stiff side and it has a ridiculously bright blue LED.

Linus Tech Tips gave high marks for Volta charger cables (magnetic interchangeable connector cables).  Never used them myself, though the concept is intriguing.

To pierce them so we can hang stuff off the rings. Or bars.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.
