Hey
« on: Tue, 11 November 2014, 17:35:26 »
Hello all, this seems like a great site so had to join. I rock a ducky shine 3 as my home clicker and wanted to mod the hell out of it.
I am very much interested in modding my keyboard to be a vim users best friend. If anyone has any suggestions where to start I am all ears.

Cheers

Welcome to Geekhack!

I'm not sure what kind of modifications you had in mind but I kept a log of when I modded my Shine 2.  There are also other build logs and mods in the making stuff together! sub-forum.

If you had something specific in mind, perhaps I could point you in the right direction.

Anyway, an excellent place to start is the Simple Questions, Simple Answers thread -- there's a wealth of knowledge in the OP and if you have simple questions (i.e. questions not requiring its own thread) just post there and ask. ;)

Thanks for your suggestion. My eventual desire for a vim keyboard layout is one of just symbols of the high level vim commands.
You keyboard looks great by the way. Some good work has gone into that!

Cheers

Welcome to Geekhack!

If you're a Vim user, then at the very least you'll probably want to start with one of these: http://techkeys.us/collections/keys/products/vim-key
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
