Keyboards / Opinions about HHKB Studio and about topre market at all.
« Last post by zlobin356 on Wed, 22 May 2024, 12:10:27 »
Hello guys! I want to raise a topic about the relatively new HHKB Studio and also about the Topre market in general. Do you think a prebuild with features from TEX and strange Kailh box type switch is worth this price? Does the market need new Topre keyboards with features like QMK and a solid case from the factory and in-stock?

I’ll be honest, I have big doubts about HHKB Studio, considering its price and what it offers for the money, I see it as a simple prebuild whose price is ~60 bucks. Of course, these are all preferences, but I would like to get a QMK, Wireless (?), some more interesting mount for the money. Why can't Fujitsu/Realforce give us this? :(

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Since I only joined the hobby in 2021 and had no idea what "GMK" even meant, I've missed out on previous runs of Dolch in any variant. I know Drop has a DCX Dolch keycap set, and I know the aftermarket is always a thing, but I've been waiting until the perfect moment to finally get a Dolch set.

GLWIC, and I'm for sure going to join the GB when/if it happens!

edit: Just realized there are 10u and BAE kits. Holy cow!!! Getting in on those for sure

personality failures play much of a role in how we should evaluate our next steps in AI.
Human beings can not rule- itself

I agree with the first statement but not the second.

I submit that "personality" is actually how we DO rule or control ourselves, what makes a person or a society who or what he or it is. Otherwise we would basically be "animals" (and yes, I do think that animals have rudimentary personalities of their own) .... So what does this make of contemporary American society? I would say schizophrenic, that is, divided into irreconcilably opposing perspectives.

By definition I am not sure that I would accept that AI can have "personality" - at least not that which was (at least) based on whatever the programmer put in there to begin with. So, does that mean that I think of AI as more similar to an animal than a person? Yes, probably.

Have you tried doing diving into stuff like handwiring or through hole projects?

I do have an extensive fountain pen collection... not quite handwriting.  Even researching urushi lacquer (used on higher end pens) can be pretty in depth.   Not sure what "through hole projects" are?  I don't actually want to increase my skill, just increase my knowledge.

Fair enough if you are just trying to learn more and not fulfilled by increasingly skillful projects.

Also through hole is like through hole components on keyboard pcbs (such as the mercutio keyboard, they do take more work (wouldn't say skill, if you know how to solder decently you should be fine) but I don't think those would help if you are just trying to increase knowledge. I do see them as more fun side projects that maintain more longevity in a hobby.
