Issue with Stabilizer Rattle on Custom Build - Advice Needed

(1/1)

TravisBrown:
Hey Geekhack community,

I recently built my first custom keyboard, and while most things went smoothly, I'm struggling with stabilizer rattle, particularly on the spacebar and shift keys. I'm using Durock V2 stabs with Krytox 205g0 lube, but I still hear a noticeable rattle when typing. I've tried re-lubing and re-seating the stabs, but it hasn't improved much.

Should I consider clipping the stabs or adding more foam to the case? Or is there a different type of stabilizer that might work better? Any tips or alternative methods would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Sometimes, the keycaps themselves can cause rattle. If you have spare keycaps, try swapping them out to see if it makes a difference.

One more idea to consider is that the wires might be popping against the plate or PCB.  Some try a bit of band-aid or heat-shrink right in the middle of the wire to muffle that.
