Disassemble Philips SPK8403 ??

(1/1)

biting:
One of these Philips SPK8403 kbs fell into my lap. It's a warranty return with a couple of binding switches, which I'd like to try repairing..

But I can't figure out how it comes apart.. other than the several obvious screw heads on the bottom. Can someone please tip me off on this?

For that matter, how does the wrist rest come off?

Thanks!

Looks like a pretty standard rainbow LED gamer full-size.  IIRC Aula is the OEM for "Philips" boards.

Occasionally these boards will have unadvertised outemu narrow-three-pin hotswap, but usually they're soldered.  Still, if you have a switch puller, might be worth some gentle-to-intermediate pressure on one of the stuck switches.  You don't want to tear any pads, though.

So if the switch doesn't come out, look for more screws under the feet.  If there's a seam along the underside where the side/top of the board that conceals the switches meets the bottom, consider a spudger to see if there are plastic clips.  Maybe before that, also remove all the keycaps to see if you can get it open from the top with screws mounted into the plate.

Above all, accept that this is a gamble and that you may have to take a few risks to find your way in.  Once there, you'll need a desoldering setup, at least soldering iron, wick, and sucker.
