and I'm like everybody else, hoping for a crazy unique elephant artisan... FOR ALPS!

now all we need is a mountain alps keycap to impale our fingers on!

njbair has requested that from me for his buy...I'm still trying to see if there's a way to do it where it wouldn't look and feel awful.
If you make it, and make it good, I'm buying one. No maybes from me.

EDIT: Cool, i made a page 6 :P
oh yeah I saw that crazy **** if that doesn't win I'm deleting my account

If not I'll settle for a ghost Enterprise keycap.

Translucent keycap with the image of a mountain in the middle. I suppose it'd be more like a layered cap. Stem > mountain > translucent final layer in the profile and shape of a standard key.

That would be way cool.

What is this crazy urge I'm having, making me want to order a third kit?

MUST...RESIST...THE WALLET...HACK

I'm already in for 2 plates and pcbs(AT101W &  Infinity)....but the HHKB layout is calling for me. It is like a horrible siren, singing a song that goes "buy one more kit."
The Alps cover 65% of Switzerland's surface area (41,285 kmē), making it one of the most alpine countries. Despite the fact that Switzerland covers only 14% of the Alps total area (192,753 kmē),[2][3] many alpine four-thousanders (48 of 82) are located in the Swiss Alps and practically all of the remaining few are within 20 km of the country's border.

The exotic look of the HHKB layout is always so attractive, haha. When I was in this buy, that's what I was going to get hands down. I already have an Infinity I love with a bent case, but an HHKB alps... Ho boy.

In the end, I decided for something else I've had in mind for a long time! It should be amazing when all is said and done, and also much harder to source parts for. It's gonna be a fun easter egg hunt! Shame I had to step out of this buy for it, but it will be worth it, and also Alps-based! :D

Speaking of sourcing parts, the Matias Stabilizer buy will be open soon.  The threads are already open on DT and /r/mk, and the thread here is just waiting on mod approval.  I will post a link once it goes live.

since the matias stabs include MX spacebar support I'm in for a 60%! I don't think I should be jumping down the alps rabbit hole but I just couldn't resist.

Is the PCB compatible with LED's?

As far as I've seen from the looks of the PCB, no. If you check it out, you'll see that there are no LED holes on the switch positon, though I THINK there is an LED for Caps Lock. From what I've been seeing, LEDs are usually only on MX/Alps hybrid boards and not typically on standalone Alps boards.

No. It has only a LED on back for debug or user programming purpose.

LED-less is a virtue of this PCB, just my opinion :D

Does that mean no Capslock LED also?  It doesn't bother me if not.  Just wondering.

I took the liberty to make a render of the PCB for those curious where EXACTLY the led (and there is a reset switch as well) would be, here it is. Note that this is the BOTTOM of the PCB, so from what i can tell it will line up with the hole in this case for example, and I'm sure with many others that have a cutout there.
Here is my question to hasu: does that (led, resistor and switch) come pre-populated as well? Is it blue? I hope it's blue....

I had to hold back laughter just now for fear of odd looks from my co-workers.
The Alps cover 65% of Switzerland's surface area (41,285 kmē), making it one of the most alpine countries. I figured the PCB wasn't compatible with LEDs, but I wanted to make sure.  I didn't know if you could use an LED as a diode and still have it work for backlighting.

The GB will close today.  I don't do encores.

If anyone has any last minute changes, I would be happy to take care of them for you.  Just hit me up with a PM.

I'm still waiting on the Stab GB to go live here.  Hoff must be napping.

PROTIP: scroll to the bottom of the home page down to the "who's online" section. Look for a mod (they are a different color) and PM them to approve your GB thread.

Yeah, that's why I went with Hoff.

You didn't save the "modify" link Google gave you? :D

I must've closed that tab in a rare moment of clarity when I realised how much stuff I've still got in the pipeline.
I'll leave it, when you don't dare add up the amount you've spent on keyboards the past month anymore, it's probably time to stop

i'm new to this stuff - would i be able to get away with ordering just a plate without a pcb and wiring it all to a teensy and still be able to fit it in a standard 60% case? or should i order pcb and plate?
Let's get this straight. There is nothing cool about keyboards we're all lame as fk.

You can totally do it with just a Teensy and wire, but it will probably be more work.  PM me if you want to change your order.

You will need a pcb - the holes in the plate are too big for mounting screws.

Here's what a build without the pcb looks like http://imgur.com/a/3qYAf

It won't fit in the pok3r case I have unfortunately.

thanks guys. i figure i'll get both just because i don't wanna bother with the cluster of unorganized wires, nor do i wanna bother with finding/making a case that'll fit when there's already a compiled list of compatible ones.

Today hopefully.  I'm busting my butt on the Excel spreadsheet as we speak.
