What are those prices on taobao.com? Surely it's not reflecting the actual price.

Looks great. Any chance we can get some info on ways GHers could get their hands on the PCB at least, without having to get a proxy? I've been making my own cases recently, and this looks like it might be good for something to put the 1976 set on..

I would be down for one of these but how much is it? That can't be the real price.

It's 500RMB for the pcb, case bottom and RGB remote. Then another 180RMB for the case top (for the thick version) and another 150RMB for the plate.

That's 830RMB or around 134USD plus 10% tao bao agent fees plus maybe 30USD for delivery. All in all around 177USD delivered, less for the thinner case tops or no plate. Very good price for a custom! Similar layouts as the lightsaver.

Edit: add 20RMB or 3.3USD for case feet.

I don't like customs because normally they are very expensive, but this looks ok for anyone looking for customs. I see nothing wrong with the price; it is extremely fair considering the small number being made.

It's nice to have a cheaper option for a lightsaver layout keyboard.
Although it's a shame that this doesn't have ALPS support.

To add on something, according to the description:
  • 20 PCB for sale
  • 31 RGB LEDs added on the bottom of the PCB which can be controlled from both the keyboard or using the remote, thus the image at the OP
  • 4 LED modes, 3 types of length, 3 types of breathing patterns and increased in intensity as you type
  • Supports ISO layout

PCB+ RGB controller = 250 RMB
PCB+ RGB controller + White casing = 500 RMB

I have the RS60 PCB,  programing is similar to the Korean makers. You need to set a layout using a layout editor,  convert it to a hex file then flash.

Just order the most expensive option. It gives you a complete set minus stabs and switches, if I am not mistaken (read quickly yesterday so reeling this off the top of my head.) Not as if it's so easy / convenient to order the other parts by yourself. If I were buying that's what I would do too, even though I have no difficulty reading.

Never give people access to your personal account. If you are not willing/ too afraid to add the products yourself, then go without. On my part, I am generally quite willing to help people (and have helped many geekhackers with Taobao searches), but something like this I will also decline and I would advise everyone not to enter Bromono's account too. If there's anything wrong with that account in future it'll be very awkward.

Sorry, I was seeing as the account has no personal identification on it, I didn't see It being that harmful. But I see your concern and it will probably break some rules. I will order them myself and go for the most expensive but I'm sure there are other options I need to choose from. And it seems like there are other items to buy besides the stuff being sold specifically on that page. Google translate only goes so far.

For those of you looking to buy one of these for yourself, here are the parts you will need for a complete build:

Necessary Items:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.3.w4002-3817085419.77.YRhsVl&id=43280250305
-The 500 RMB option includes the bottom case, PCB, and remote.
-I highly recommend opting for the higher priced option because it will be a pain finding a case to fit the PCB from other sources (unless you intend on building your own acrylic case).

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.1998246701.4.eDPddB&scm=1007.10152.2215.i43280250305&id=43280250305&pvid=2365b60b-d9b7-46c1-9ed3-4dd309ada7d2
-This is the topcase, available in three different thicknesses and multiple colors.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.1998246701.6.eDPddB&scm=1007.10152.2215.i43280250305&id=43280594282&pvid=2365b60b-d9b7-46c1-9ed3-4dd309ada7d2
-Here is the plate, which is semi-optional. I say semi-optional because the plate does not seem to support solder-less switch swapping. Some of you might prefer to go plate-less for maximum customizability.

Optional Items:

Stickers (available from many sources)
Lube (Krytox recommended, available from many sources)
LEDs (2x3x4 size, the NuclearSandwich GB has a couple interesting colors available; the more common colors are available almost anywhere - eBay, AliExpress, etc.)
Custom Springs (Sprit GB highly recommended)

For TaoBao agent, I have used TaoBaoFocus before and had no issues with them. I've also heard many good things about YoyBuy. Just plug in the links I listed above into their searches and add them to cart with the options you'd like.

Hope this helps!

For those of you looking to buy one of these for yourself, here are the parts you will need for a complete build:

Necessary Items:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.3.w4002-3817085419.77.YRhsVl&id=43280250305
-The 500 RMB option includes the bottom case, PCB, and remote.
-I highly recommend opting for the higher priced option because it will be a pain finding a case to fit the PCB from other sources (unless you intend on building your own acrylic case).

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.1998246701.4.eDPddB&scm=1007.10152.2215.i43280250305&id=43280250305&pvid=2365b60b-d9b7-46c1-9ed3-4dd309ada7d2
-This is the topcase, available in three different thicknesses and multiple colors.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.1998246701.6.eDPddB&scm=1007.10152.2215.i43280250305&id=43280594282&pvid=2365b60b-d9b7-46c1-9ed3-4dd309ada7d2
-Here is the plate, which is semi-optional. I say semi-optional because the plate does not seem to support solder-less switch swapping. Some of you might prefer to go plate-less for maximum customizability.

Optional Items:

Stickers (available from many sources)
Lube (Krytox recommended, available from many sources)
LEDs (2x3x4 size, the NuclearSandwich GB has a couple interesting colors available; the more common colors are available almost anywhere - eBay, AliExpress, etc.)
Custom Springs (Sprit GB highly recommended)

For TaoBao agent, I have used TaoBaoFocus before and had no issues with them. I've also heard many good things about YoyBuy. Just plug in the links I listed above into their searches and add them to cart with the options you'd like.

Hope this helps!

here i was all excited for a Red Scarf II, but it looks like that ship has sailed.

Yeah, I was always looking at GhostofHarry's IC for the Red Scarf II, but that never happened.

Now there is even a new version. I wonder whether there is a PCB that supports the numpad on the left side?!

I really like the g80-1800 like layout that is an option on this and the lightsaver V2. It is my favorite after a similar layout with the numpad on the left (which is only hypothetical since I have never actually seen it done).

I do have some questions about it though. I tried translating the thread and taobao links, but I couldn't find the answers. So if someone knows the answers or has an account on the Chinese forum to ask I would appreciate it.

I think it is safe to assume it is programmable, but how does that work? Depending on how the remote control RGBs are implemented the firmware might need to be coded to support it. So does anyone know if the keyboard's controller is independent of the LED controller, or if you have to use a special software to program it? What micro-controller does it use, just in case writing my own firmware would be easier or I get bored and decide to do it anyway? Also what chip(s) does it use for the remote and controlling the LEDs, if that is separate from the controller for the keyboard itself? My main concern is whether it is fully programmable while still supporting the RGBs and the remote. If I can't get answers to the more detailed questions just that is perfectly fine.

I did get the 180 version. I believe it it determines the thickness of the metal. as you can get 3 cheaper thinner metal tops and stack them to get the layered look.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=43280250305 500¥ option
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=43315221628 180¥ option

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=43228379649 , I assume one item is a pack of 4 ?

Before I order it can a chinese speaker confirm that all the soldering job (besides switches ) is done on the PCB ?
Also is there any information on the programmability of the keyboard in the description of the item (first link) ?

I am pretty sure the 3mm (60 yuan) option is the one with visible screws. 5mm is 120 and 8 mm is 180. I am pretty sure that all options have the small gap between the edges of the top and bottom pieces. From what the forum said it seems like the gap is there on purpose as an aesthetic feature.

EDIT: I had 160 instead of 180

I am excited to! This will be my first time building a complete keyboard. I have been eye balling this layout since I have seen it on the LZ boards. I am torn between vintage blacks or ergo clears though. I have vintage blacks on my poker and love them. But heard so many great things of ergo clears.

As someone who loves both vintage blacks and ergo clears, go with vintage blacks. They're much smoother.

Is the topcase strictly speaking 'necessary'? Looks like it isn't providing any additional support to the switches or structural support to the case, just is a top layer for the case which allows for countersunk screws, etc. Makes me wonder if you couldn't just use a nut.

Doesn't look necessary. There are screws that hold own the PCB. Only reason you would need the top was if you wanted it to look a little better. Otherwise, just having the bottom case on would look akin to a low profile poker case.

Before I order it can a chinese speaker confirm that all the soldering job (besides switches ) is done on the PCB ?
Also is there any information on the programmability of the keyboard in the description of the item (first link) ?

A note on the keycaps, since Bromono asked me.

I believe Tai Hao's add on set will fit the nonstandard keys on the red scarf very well. You should only have to use a blank to substitute for the 0 key.

The board is also compatible with other layouts that are more common as well. The taobao page for the plate shows some, and IIRC it is compatible with a standard ansi layout.

Damnit. Proxy cocked up, they didnt even order the bloody thing. Now out of stock :/
Any suggestions on alternatives that I can check out from Taobao? I would rather just use the money to try something similar, than muck about with refunds and such, if I can. Unless somebody has a spare from Ivan's GB that they don't mind sending to AUS?

I appreciate the heads up, but you are right, the price range is a bit high. Might just get the refund and put it towards some more tools, unless there are any more suggestions. Decisions decisions.

Much obliged. I had thought there was another design doing the rounds, but couldn't remember what it was. I was looking forward to the version with the numpad, though, seeing as I have already got a Kaliet board with a similar layout (build log is in the workshop section).
Thanks regardless :)

Does anyone know if these are still available?

I would love to get one. I added the 4 necessary items on TaoFocus, but I'm not sure if it includes the PCB.

I'm interested in getting the RS96 kit but I live in eastern U.S., how would I go about getting one of these from Taobao. I only know English as well so that is a huge setback for me.

My proxy still has my money from the cock-up earlier, figured the refund was a hassle.. No luck finding any listings, myself, so let me know if you find anything.

Sorry to necro thread but I see this board is on MD now, I'm concerned it has alu plate, does the plate flex?  I tried a LZRV with an alu plate and I thought it was very unsturdy and it flexed, so I switched tot steel, I'm concerned this board is like that because it has an alu plate.  Anyone have this board and can tell me?  Is it as sturdy (that is it does not flex when you type) as OEM boards with steel plates?

I'm not sure about the LZRV, but if it's like the LZGH this should be a lot stiffer, even with alu plate. The reason is that the PCB bolts directly to the bottom case, so the bottom part of the case acts like a "plate" underneath it. The upper plate being aluminium really just acts to stabilize the switches with respect to eachother. For keyboards that hang from the plate, plate material makes a big dufference (this is why I had a one-off steel plate made for my skeldon), but I bet you could run this without a plate at all and it'd be good. I tried my lightsaver that way when I was rebuilding it once and it was just fine.

With a PCB sandwitched between two plates it should be quite stiff. Not sure if the rest of the build is to your liking, but that aspect should be ok. Most steel plate OEM boards the pcb hands from the plate also, so this is a different construction from that even.

Now I will yield to anyone who has firsthand experience with the board, but that's how it should shake out in principle. If you want a good KB like this with a steel plate, why not get a duck lightsaver? it's the same layout, similar construction (PCB bolts to case) and has a stainless steel plate already.

What are those prices on taobao.com? Surely it's not reflecting the actual price.

I think getting a lightsaver is almost impossible :)
