Hello there,

I have designed a premium case for the crkbd "Corne" keyboard by u/Foostan.  I would like to hear your feedback and know what people want and what the market is like for this idea.

Here is the current design. These are just some quick screenshots from my 3d modeling software; expect more developed renderings as this project progresses. At the end of the imgur album is a photo of the first half of a 3d printed prototype.

The angles of the Corne PCB remind me of the design work of Roberto Burle Marx, a modernist landscape architect from Brazil. My case design draws from his style as well as some other boards I am a fan of in the community. I encourage you to check out his work.

Here are some details so far:
-2 degree incline
-Top mount brass plate, possibly in pc or pom as well
-Big ass brass weight on each half
-Case offered in PC or Anodized Aluminum (proposed colors in the imgur album)
-Estimated weight (including completed pcb, switches and keycaps) for PC is 536.75g and for Alu is 624.60g per half. That's well over a pound per half for either configuration.

Next Steps:
-Continue to develop the details of this design, more 3d printing and testing.
-Contact manufacturers to determine pricing and schedule for case fabrication.
-Contact vendors that sell corne pcbs to ensure availability for this GB. (I just reached out to u/network_operations aka keyhive yesterday and he is interested.)
-Order prototypes for testing.
-Post an update with finalized renderings and more proto photos.

Ergos aren't for everyone haha but I'm glad you like the design!

The main reason I haven't tried ergo yet, is that there are few premium case options. This looks like a great premium option. I'm interested.

I'm definitely interested in this. Do you plan on adding any tenting options?

These are really nice, very clean!

Adding heft makes ergos feel really nice, I made my Iris' with the steel plates and bases and they were hefty, I love the idea of a nice weighty corne!

I have considered this but with the IMK x Corne that's already out there I feel like it's already been done.

I’m ready, take my money please!

Will this be available case only, or will I have to get the PCB too? I just want case and hardware, I don’t need another Corne pcb.

Definitely will be available as case only. I know a lot of people already have the corne out here so the idea is to provide another option for existing users as well as a new option for people that were not previously interested in split ergo due to the lack of premium options on the market.

I think you should include a smoked polycarbonate version, will look fire with that brass pcb and weight.

Wow! Being an ergo user and from a city full of Burle Marx's work, I feel like this case just fits me!

I've never used a Corne, though. I'm used to ergo designs with a lot more keys than a Corne, and a tenting option (like an Ergodox). But this case just looks too good to pass, I for sure will give it a try. Our community definitely lacks options for high end ergo cases.

Just one question: what parts of the design reminded you most of Burle Marx's work? I usually think of things more "curvy" and "natural" with few straight lines.

You could always try to design a custom tenting solution like building it into the weight or a weight option. No offense your design is beautiful just a thought/suggestion.

Yeah, I don’t think tenting is an innovation to be tried and discarded. Most ergo boards have some sort of tenting, because it is part of what makes the board ergonomic.

I would ask that you reconsider.

Also, is there some way you can add in some wrist rests?

I appreciate that these two items together may constitute a lot of extra work, and may delay GB if you accept and commit to doing it. So what do other people think?

It’s a great project, I’m interested anyway.

2 degrees incline typing or tenting angle?
would u consider having a more aggressive typing angle?

Also in. Would love tenting as an option. Maybe something that connects or could be removed if not desired?
