[IC] DSS Cipher
« on: Sun, 05 September 2021, 16:28:54 »

Prototypes      Site

Pigpen Cipher: One of the first monoalphabetic ciphers formed for secret communication and information storing.
Time for a new set! This one's more to show my appreciation for this cipher, pairing it with a few shades of greens that I really liked!

Arch IC Layout Cloned????
Cipher=form of physical non-digital "encryption" therefore Ram can be lazy and reuse :)

The kitting is too barebones, why is this?
This stems from the alpha molds adding a sizeable amount to cost which means I can't add way too many keys if I want to keep pricing reasonable.

What da Big Board
Join my discord, waitlist is almost full.

There's no novelties?
I had a hard time finding novelty designs I would be happy with and as such decided to not include it,
I've left a spot in the IC form so that if you guys have designs you want to see we can possibly get a kit made! :)

What's going on with the Mono legends being mixed?
Some keys such as ` , . just didn't look good in mono so I chose to mix between the 2, there's a spot in the IC form to make a definitive decision on whether we keep this or not.

Ah thanks for reminding me, I need to stick that in the FAQ, I've opted to use a mix since not some unshifted characters just wont look nice in mono, and I was going to make a poll on whether to keep them mixed or switch to either shifted/unshifted, let me add that in.

Talked to people in 40s discord who said the other 2 keys weren't needed, was originally including them.

I love this.

I remember using pigpen cipher with a friend back in school.
This set kinda brings back memories :D

Definitely something that can get added in if the demand is there

Interesting idea, GLWIC!

Yeah it makes no sense to include a 1.75u r2 backspace without a 1.5u r3 enter.

I can't find you posting your kitting once for this set in 40s, just renders of big keyboards, but I would put money on people not saying that considering there are multiple guides pinned on what you should have for compatibility.

Trashcon was made by evangs and to not have full minivan support.... Kinda wack

As has been alluded to already in this thread, DSS has a R3 bottom row. Ie, the bottom row is the same profile as the A-row. This allows traditionally bottom row mods to serve as tab / enter. Many SA sets have the same feature.

In other words, this set will fit on any keyboard that a basekit with 3-key fits on, assuming that you don't mind some legend "mismatch" (which is in quotes because the whole idea behind the trashcon legends is that they're ambiguous enough to stand in for one another without looking out of place).

Overall kitting for this is pretty good from what I can tell.

I feel there's too much going on. Chubby trashcons plus the thin and angular alpha ciphers plus mono numrow legends plus shifted punctuation... Not for me.

im gonna eat a lot of **** from my friends for this one but i honestly think this set would be great for the 40% ppl

it looks weird with numrow

also the font weighting is wacky. make it consistent pls.

For the Font weighting issue I've printed out to scale(for the alphas, can't 100% confirm for the trashcons as I had to manually scale those) and it looks like this
More

For me at least this is fine and I think the primary issue is that I used the KRK UV as a template for the render UV Skok and Kure used, and since that's not in scale to the real size of Gorton Legends, something went wrong when scaling up(trashcons as a whole I had to completely scale from scratch since the png on trashmans wiki wasn't 100% accurate, so that scaling may also be wrong)

In all seriousness I see what he's saying, the numbers and punctuation being incongruous with the alphas and mods stylistically will make it look really nice on boards that don't have numbers and have minimal punctuation. That would obviously change should those legends take on a similar style as the alphas.

If you're not gonna give us a dedicated 40's Tab and Enter, can we at least have Dual 3u bars in base?
