CST owners -- how accurate are you?
« on: Fri, 16 September 2011, 12:57:05 »
I've been trying to get used to a trackball, and have thought about trying to replace my Logitech G500 with a CST L-TrackX. I'm a relatively low sensitivity gamer, but I don't have a lot of room for my mouse, which isn't a good combination.

I picked up a Logitech Marble recently to give it a try -- it's comfortable, and fun, but my accuracy is pretty bad (for three reasons: 1) it's a cheap trackball, with a small ball and plastic feet that stick when making small adjustments; 2) I can't seem to click rapidly with my thumb and move the trackball accurately with my fingers at the same time; and 3) I'm not used to a trackball yet). I'm about as accurate with my laptop's stick pointer.

I was wondering, for those that have a CST and have used it for a while, how accurate are you? Can you click rapidly and move the ball at the same time? Does clicking move the pointer if you stay in contact with the ball?

Anyone care to post their accuracy score from this test (I average around 13k on my Marble)?

I get about 12K. But I'm not a gamer. For reference, on my tablet, I score over 20K. But that's a pen.

For my purposes, accuracy isn't about how fast you can get there, it's about how closely you can get to the target. I'm mostly a coder, but I do use the trackball for graphics work occasionally, and it's only bested by my wacom tablet in terms of precision and accuracy.

Oh, and I don't use the tip of my thumb to click. I use the base, instead. The whole piece to the left of the ball on the CST is a button, and I tend to click it near the bottom. But I never bother to take my fingers off the ball.

Use a medium sensitivity be your best bet. I used to play on an 8 inch mousepad which gives like 5-6 inches of actual movement space.

For a second I thought the title said "CRT owners".
Now that would be a topic I could join in any time.

I got 31.7k on my first run with my Abyssus, but it's early morning, only just got up and it's a little cold. Might try later on today again and see if I can best it.

I'd like to see a screenshot of that.

Alright I just tried this time on a warmer day after having been up for hours and got this:

486k on my second try, I could theoretically go forever since the speed or difficulty doesn't scale upwards at all. I was close enough to 500k to just stop.

I'm not sure but I must've hit F4 since that silly left sidebar came on. My attention to details on web browsers is low.

How is that SC2 match?

I guess I really need to work on my mouse accuracy.

It was an interesting game.

Here's a link to the game if you want to watch it:

Yeah I'll probably check it out. I mainly watch a few GSL games here and there... not a whole lot.

Yeah same here, I usually just follow GSL, but a friend linked me to that so I had it load and wait until I had a few minutes to spare.
