Since I was able to get good pricing and finally some good shipping rates for individual packages, I am planning on starting a group buy for these switch stickers.

The IC is to see if there will be a good number of orders for switch stickers. The designs, colors, shipping costs and all are mentioned below.

Switch Stickers ???

They make your board look pretty! The sticker is used to eliminate the small movement (left-to-right) in the plastic part of the switch, so it is not something major as oiling & greasing, but the sensitive keyboard enthusiasts could not stand that tiny flaw and made stickers that fit perfectly in that small crack of the switch.

Also helps with PCB switches, think about it, the plate already helps significantly in stabilizing the switch since it holds the bottom of the switch and the legs that hold the top half in place.  On PCB mounted switches you only have the contacts, legs, and potentially a diode or LED to stabilize it, but the top half of the housing has more room to wiggle and play.  So if the top is loose on PCB mounted, it will wobble more.  The sticker is supposed to make the top less wobbly and stabilize it more.

These stickers would go really well with this GB as it would show of your stickers!

MOQ
================
There is no MOQ on total orders but atleast 10 sheets for any color for the whole GB, can be combination of any of the 3 designs (Eg, 3O, 3M, 4S).

This is not for individual orders, this is for the complete GB

Time Frame
================
I would like to get this done as quickly as possible. I will be sending samples to jdcarpe in the next couple of days. Samples, sent and he approves of them.

Once the GB starts:
- 3 week - ordering
- 2 weeks - invoicing
- 2 days - production
- 1 week - prepare for mailing
- Around 2 weeks - shipping from me to you

So around 2 months from GB start to receiving product

The Costs + Shipping
================
Each sheet will contain 8x16 stickers = 128 stickers folded in half and be mailed in a CD/DVD bubble mailer by Registered Indian Post.

The price for any sheet would be $1 only!

Weight of bubble mailer + some extras (Surprise!) = 25g
Weight of one sticker sheet = 12g

For shipping within India: $1.5/kg

Shipping will cost (Same worldwide):
$4 for first 100g
$1 for every additional 100g

So you can get upto 6 sheets in the base shipping cost ($4), and upto 7 more for each extra 100g ($1).

Maximum weight is 2000g. If you want to order more, will have to use bulk mailer, contact me via PM as shipping varies depending on location for bulk orders.

PayPal will be the only mode for payment.

These costs have been mentioned factoring all costs such as productions, costs for getting these to me, bubble mailer package, etc as well as PayPal fees. So what you see is what you pay.

More Stickers!
================
If you have some design you want made into a sticker this can be arranged at the give prices below. Any design can be plotted as long as it is in black and white.

The black part will be made into a sticker


Complex designs can be printed on transparent sheet, thus having an opaque look or printed on white vinyl. They will then be cut along a borderline  based of your design.. Just like printing a sticker at home and cutting it out, except instead of being on paper it would be on clear or white vinyl.

The Pikachu would be printed and cut along the white part, it can be cut without a border but there is a limitation on the detail for small sized stickers.

There is no MOQ for custom designs, you can get even one sticker printed.

Costing would be $ 0.02 per sq. inch printed or plotted.

Release stickers (Area around sticker not needed removed and a clear tape added on top to peel the sticker to stick it somewhere and then remove the tape) would cost $0.09 per sq. inch.

If vinyl is not from Table 1.1 charges would be halved and price of vinyl used added. Shipping weight for 1sq inch of vinyl is 0.175g.

Size (net) is the actual size of the sticker
Size(gross) is the size of the vinyl used for cutting the sticker as there are extras (around 2-3mm) on the sides to accommodate releasing and cutting the stickers.
Weight and price is calculated based on the gross size of the sticker.

Vinyl Please!

I have gotten some message regarding people wanting to buy vinyl only, this option will also be available at below rates:

Add $0.5 extra to shipping for larger bubble mailers

However the weight of the bubble mailer will increase from 25g to 70g.

Vinyl will cost you $0.01 per sq inch for any of the vinyls listed in the Table 1.1 and at given costs in Table 1.2.

For the vinyl from Paper Street Plastics contact me via PM.

Max size of vinyl is 12"x12", if you want bigger sizes, PM me and we'll work something out as then I have to use different packaging and shipping depending on quantity.

Personal preference,  each design covers different amount of surface area.

The original in the minimalistic design, moose covers the 4 rounded corners and finally spider covers the small tabs on the sides of the bottom switch housing.

I will post pictures of all three once the design is completed.

- Metallic colors, I'm not talking about gold, silver, but blue,red,yellow,etc in metallic finishes.
- Metallic copper vinyl

Mimic had colors with sparkles in them at one time. He called them metallic.

Design has been done and finalised, just final cut has to be tested, which will be done in the next couple of days and test package mailed to jdcarpe.

Also updated OP with details regarding my location, delay if extra vinyl has to be sourced, pricing for these extra vinyls sourced, made shipping details clearer.

That's ok, we got some members from Australia (for the first two), we just got to make a list which sheets we want. I would like some of that holographic blue and red for example.

We can make the list, however actual ordering of vinyl would be done once payment for orders with special vinyl are paid for. I have updated OP with dimensions of the sheet (6"x12").

So for the ones you have posted it would be $3 + shipping from Ebay delaer to Aus Proxy + Aus Proxy to me + Shipping from me to you. These won't be cheap that is for sure, however you get exactly what you want.

I'm interested.  Seems inexpensive enough.  I still don't fully get the point to stickers but at this price it can't hurt to experiment.

Pretties and a slight decrease in rotation / wobble :)  Some claim a reduction in dust / dirt accumulation, which I suppose could be true, because some of the used vintage switches I've opened up had what looked like lint inside and some dirt.

From the current colors, white, black, brushed silver and gold, normal glossy silver and a dark blue.

Edit: Would A4 be fine as well size wise? It's slightly smaller than 12" but wider than 6". That's great! Because they ship to India. Shipping would be about 5.40$ first and about 1.20$ for every additional one for the matte, $3,75 and $1,87 for every additional one for the glossy. mohitgarg, thanks for taking care of the logistics to get these made. $1 per sheet is super cheap, considering a few vendors on here was selling them at 500% - 1000% markup. I'll be interested in at least 10 sheets.

Just a suggestion though, you should make it in either the first two designs only, preferably the simplest one (original design). If you don't seat them perfectly, those extra parts sticking out won't actually be mounted on anything. It'll make it look more sloppy. Those extra flaps won't actually do anything to hold them better.

While I do agree with what you said, why not offer the other variant(s) as well if it doesn't cost any extra? If people want them why not offer them? We also have to wait until jdcarpe has tested them to see which ones work best.

Because those flaps do absolutely nothing. They could make mounting harder, and more chance they get caught on something. If you've ever mounted stickers before, then you'll realize they don't even need to be sticky at all. They just need to fit the inner cutout so they don't move until you put the switch top cover on.

That's just my suggestion and the reason behind it. But if anyone feels they those extra flaps sticking out, then by all means get whatever you want.

The difference in price is so marginal, that it won't make any difference at all.

The only real drawback is the extra work it will add for me when sorting things out.

I have decided on this vendor for the chrome (metallic) and sparkle (holographic) sheets. They have a ton of choices for colors, as well as pricing seems to be the best from the dealers I have seen through eBay.

If you can find any dealers selling cheaper than this per sq feet including the shipping to India, it would help you and everyone else a lot!

The costs are for one sticker (Including shipping to me and plotting) is coming between $2-$3 for each sheet, but you have liberty to choose almost any color in chrome and sparkle. Only catch is since they are selling in bulk, MOQ for these colors would hover around 50 sheets per color.

Once this GB starts, I would recommend members get every damn color and style they think they could ever want or need, because this is choices galore and maybe a one time thing as we know most vendors just do not offer this many choices. And while you are at it, why not get the clear switch tops as well to show them stickers off.

Of course, it's still buyer's ultimate decision on which design to get. But I was just throwing it out there in case someone was choosing the design #3 not realizing there is no function difference between the simple one, and might actually be harder to install and look worst if they don't do it correctly.

I actually prefer them to not even be "stickers", so is there any practical way to get vinyl sheets without the sticky side?

Are you sure you'd want to deal with no sticky vinyl?  It's time consuming enough to align each sticker perfectly--imagine if it shifted between the time you put it on and finish lubing, and just by putting the top cover on in itself.  I was grateful that my stickers didn't shift easily once I was content with their placement.

Weight of bubble mailer = 20g
Weight of normal envelop = 7g

Price of bubble mailer = $0.2
Price of normal envelop = $0.05

It will be hard to fit another sticker sheet in the base shipping of 100g by using normal envelop as opposed to bubble mailer, the price difference is almost non existent. The CD/DVD bubble mailer should carry upto 500g easy, where as envelop won't. And the biggest reason, bubble mailer is durable and envelop is not, and I can't trust the Indian Post to handle packages properly.

I got the final designs plotted and they came out great. Although I am skeptical about spider, since the four extra flaps (Compared to moose) can cause problems when putting on the switch top and removing it, as it is very hard to place the sticker perfect so there are no parts hanging, the margin is too small.

The plotter's accuracy was not enough for these super small tabs. So I would suggest moose as the best as it shows off maximum sticker, while having enough allowance to allow some human errors. Oh wait, we already knew that, the world works in favour of moose!  :cool:

Also got the sample pack for jdcarpe, he will be mailed the package in a day or two. The metallic stickers make faint ting sounds when bent or colliding. :D

I'll post pictures of the new cuts later.

Got hold of one catalog to show all the colors (Will be scanned and uploaded soon) and the plotter said that chrome and sparkle vinyl *might* be available in the local car decal market. Will check that out some time this week!

Some bad news, there might be some extra cost $1 to the base pricing, this is due to the volatility of India Rupee, EntroPay charges and fluctuation in the market. I might end up removing these fees from the total and add them later as they are applied percentage wise.

I hope it doesn't deter away potential buyers, rest assured you will be happy to receive the package and the surprise extras.

I'll be happy with the standard design (no protruding side bits) :)  It's troublesome enough to have all the stickers line up perfectly top-to-bottom to add the additional side bits that can look off as well.  Even when you align top-to-bottom well, just the act of closing the switch with the top housing can shift / deform the sticker a bit to throw the fit out of alignment.  It was a very slow process to get all the stickers on my 2 keyboards 95% perfect.

I found out today from the plotter, there is also radium available for those who would like glow in the dark stickers. It would cost $3 for a sheet though as it is expensive material.

Also tried cutting OHP, didn't work, problem is the vinyl or any material put through the plotter needs some reinforcing back surface to hold it in place while the design is cut. If there is no adhesive, the vinyl goes heywire and cut be cut. Same goes for the OHP sheet.

Can someone in the US, help with this:

God damn it, no GH stickers. I hate GH stickers. Aargh, I should have known someone would recommend it.  :mad:

I be getting them made, it was supposed to be one of the extras, brushed silver "geekhack" 60mm x 12mm stickers, these would have release (Area around sticker not needed removed and a clear tape added on top to peel the sticker stick ti somewhere and then remove the tape) and be ready to stick as there are separated letters, so it would be too hard to align by hand for each member. You'll get a couple. :D

Damn you bueller! Oh well, there are yet other surprises too, which I know, noone will guess. :)

Oh, and I have added price for cut stickers that require release to the OP, $0.1 per sq inch, reduced prices on custom stickers! :D

Bueller, timeline is mentioned in the OP.

I know there is enough to go for a GB, however I am waiting on getting feedback from jdcarpe before I start the GB.

I found out that the vinyl is 3.5mil. Adhesive is good enough IMO, design is perfect, so almost 100% sure that it should pass inspection.

Meanwhile I am looking for colored metallic and sparkle vinyl. If someone in the US can help me by making a call to the paper street plastics and getting em an email so I can contact them, it would be great! I am still hunting local solutions if any.

Most likely GB would be up up in 10-15days, depending on time it takes for package to reach jdcarpe, this should give good estimate on shipping time as well.

For printed designs, design will be printed just as you do on a home printer, it is essentially inkject printer with special ink and printing from industrial printer. So colors would be as close they can be. For plotted stickers, they can be whatever color vinyl you want. This would be of the same grade vinyl as other vinyl used for switch sticker, except one that can be printed on. Adhesion should be quite good, given how these vinyls are generally are used for automotive decoration or signages, so they can take a beating in harsh weather as well.

Yes it is plate mounted and no unless you get a plate for the poker 2 which allows for switch top removal you would have to completely desolder to open switches to apply these and then resolder.

Well basically, you would need to desolder your switches to open them. Way too much trouble in my opinion just to sticker the switches. If it had a special custom plate that allows for opening the switches without desoldering it would be different, but no stock keyboard has these.

Updated OP with the colors, man that was tiring, this is as correct as I can get them.

Fluorescent colors aren't scanned properly but I hope you'll get the idea of what color they are, real bright like safety orange.

I don't know anything about wood grains, so if someone can identify the grains, please help me do so.

NO, these are not the final colors, these are the ones available locally, I can get the metallic colors and sparkling ones, those sheets would cost around $3-$4 depending on numbers with MOQ of around 30-40 sheets.

I've been trying to call Paper Street Plastics, but they didn't answer the phone. They are the best dealers for vinyl online.

There are too many amazing colors to choose.  I'd definitely be down for a glittery purple if there is one, a royal blue, probably a silver, and some others.   Whatever you do, I'm sure it will sell.  I feel like a kid in a candy shop who can only choose two pieces of candy when they love 80% of the stuff in the store.  And you need to talk to mkawa and see if we can get these in the official GH store.

My only problem in me head right now is how I will sort all these colors. I will manage.

I'll add the colors and pricing to the OP, however be warned, that I don't have the vinyls in my hand or samples, so these photos will be from PSP's ebay page, however with 99.7% rating and over 29k orders, I think they are trustworthy :P

It will take a while as I need to get concrete information on availability, pricing for vinyl and shipping. I may be charged some customs, so that too.

I see--so Pink Fizz is a rather warm busy color.  It's hard to tell from the photos, as "Violet" looks magenta-pink on one photo and very blue-purple on another.  Etc.  So I'll go with whichever pink people choose for your MOQ: fluorescent pink or fizz pink.  I'll just add that the stickers are small enough to not really discern the diamond pattern once placed.  Glitter is probably as large a pattern as you can discern.

Edit: and I'll add that you should definitely check the thickness of that vinyl.  It might be too thick for our purpose.

I think glitter actually should work very well, take a look at the photos of the tape rolls to get a feeling for the size. But yes diamont could be too big.

Which vinyl, they are all 3mil, which is fine.

Got pricing from Paper Street Plastics, and this is what we are looking at (OP will be updated tonight). Note that shipping to me has been included in the price, at most 15% increase in price might be there if I have to pay customs and there will be some discount on the overall order depending on how much we order.

Below are pricing for orders of different quantities of vinyl for any given color.
I have already calculated the number of sheets that can be made in different volumes of vinyl and thus pricing is calculated.
This includes all costs except customs and overall bulk order discount.

Point in case, I will order sheets so we get best rate possible :D

So, I got time to take pictures and assess the latest cut.

Here is a side profile and how the sticker looks on a switch:

Metallic (Brushed Silver): This vinyl is slightly thicker and has a metallic feel and makes *ting* noise when bent or hit on with each other. There isn't as much flexibility, although it is not rigid either.

Standard Vinyl: This one is slightly more flexible, so even if the design isn't 100% fir, it works out. In the led region, it bends well.

Original: This is the gold old design, nothing much to add. Except I think I should increase the inner cutout by 0.25mm on each side, the fit was slightly tight. This small niggle will be present in both the other designs as well.

Moose: This is in my opinion the best as the extended corners are very well visible after the switch top has been placed and I feel they added to stabilizing the switch as the are considerably wider and provide a good cushioning pad for the switch top. Fits well as well and the corner tabs have tolerance so even if the sticker is slightly misaligned it wouldn't look bad. Since we are looking for fancy vinyls, then the sticker should show as much as possible :D.

Spider: Not happy as the 4 tabs on the sides didn't align up well and after a number of tries I realised they will not align if the sticker is even slightly offset. It doesn't add anything to aesthetics nor to functionality, and hence I wouldn't recommend this and remove it from the options as it will likely cause problems.

Some people had inquired about the adhesiveness pf the vinyl and some. Here are some photos, first two are sticker stuck on the keyboard. Third one represents the sticker removed and surface not touched at all, you can see there is visible marks where it was removed from. Fourth shows after wiping just a wet cloth, you can see there are no visible leftovers of the adhesive. I think the visible part in third picture is because the adhesive removed the small amount of duct particles when sticker was removed.

These would cost half the price for plotting as the material cost is extra, thus $0.50 per sheet, excluding the price of the sheet. So plotting is $0.50 and the cost of the vinyl. Please, also understand that these order will be delayed by 2-3 weeks depending on time it takes for vinyls to reach me.

Although I am flexible with having as many colors as people want, do you think it would be a good idea to reduce the choices a tad bit for switch stickers. because the size is so small that there will hardly be any discernible difference between some of them, eg all the holographic variants (diamond, chrome, glitter engine turns, etc)

And seriously, I think limiting makes much sense, if there's too much choice you'll be flooded with questions about differences and "what should I choose" problems. Except for that, less choices = more sheets of the same color = lower prices, right?

While I love having so many choices, I think you should limit the number.  Otherwise, prepared to get flooded with questions and other issues that arise from having waayyyy too many options.  Always easier to keep it simple, for both the buyers and sellers.

Will probably buy some as well seeing how they are dirt cheap compared to the previous groupbuys and stores. I prefer the more basic colors since it's more for function then esthetics for me, I don't need/like the flashy sparkly stuff. Maybe I'd still consider a metal color or something.
And I agree, too many choices atm. Like is said above, you could choose the most popular colors, both for flashy/unique and the more basic ones.

Also these colors would be available for the mentioned prices in the OP for custom stickers as well.

For anything else, you can choose from all the colors, however there will be 100% premium, ie double the rate, as I won't get bulk pricing on those, and for custom stickers, you'll need to order by 1x1 feet. Extra vinyls only will also follow thus double rate and minimum 1sq feet.

Also, for dropouts here is the deal, there will be a 10% surcharge on the price of the goods (Thus excluding shipping, and misc costs and only price of sticker), HOWEVER if some member or vendor is willing to cover these dropouts, they will get 10% discount on complete order (Their own as well the dropouts they cover) for being generous to all of us and being 'good guy'.

Besides this I will add optional $1 for my services and time, and $1 optional to GH funds.

Sound good? I think that covers everything.

Sounds like a good approach to me.  Honestly, I'd never really considered adding stickers to my keyboards, but after seeing all the color options I think I'm a convert.   ;D

Nor did I. I was with a friend and he forcibly took me to a vinyl store to get some work done on his bike. I saw the prices and was interested, then created the thread for switch sticker files. mkawa encouraged me to make them myself, I did, it worked out very cheap and I am glad my friend took me to the store that day!

As for glow in the dark samples, what sample? There is only one.

Don't fret, you can get it at a higher price in any case :P (Although still quite a bit cheaper than many other options). I think I might make the premium for the Paper Street Plastics as 50% only since, they already sell at a higher price. :D

I've seen other group buys handle what you want to do with google docs but I've not ever really used it to know how to get it all setup.

I finally got around to making possibly the largest Google Form in history, so much so that I hit an overflow error, the maximum number of columns in a Google Spreadsheet are 256, I had around 350 columns  :-X

Thus the form will be done in two parts:
Part 1 - All your basic details, order switch stickers with fixed price, custom stickers and vinyls
Part 2 - Switch Stickers with tiered pricing (Price will depend on total number of orders per color), these are all the other colors besides the ones in the fixed price switch stickers list.

Does this sound good?

I am offering all 152 variants, remember that some colors have gloss and matte finish.

The results from the poll were used to decide on 20 colors in 28 total variations, that will be offered at cost for a fixed price.

The price for other 124 variants will depend on total order quantity per color.

Did I mention there are 2 shapes for each color :P
