Ha, never! I'm slowly converting everyone at the office to mechanical keyboards by letting them borrow one for an extended period of time. :-p ~5 down, 25 to go.

thank you! It's kind of like a hacked lightbox...I have lighting setup like a normal box, and posterboard for the backdrop. Lighting is diffused on each side, but it's not really a "box" per se. Tools like Lightroom also do a great job at touching up photos

Introducing, in potato vision, what I've just finished adding to my current daily drivers today, custom cables:

Sleeved and coiled them myself but damn was it a pain in the ass to get nice-looking coils.

Orion v2 rocking the coiled look as a throwback to vintage Alps boards since it's just an Alps beast atm.

Kept the connectors bare just because I think it complements the look well. Blacked out dark side boards, haha. Love 'em.

Thanks man, they were a hassle to make, but I really like them too!

Yep, there's unfortunately some shine, which really pissed me off after spending more than $100 for what I thought was a mint Dell AT101 off of TaoBao only to get one with mild shine.

The spacebar is ABS though, and all caps are dyed. The spacebar was incredibly hard to get right, haha. The rest of the caps are all PBT. I have a non-shined SGI Granite set I could dye, but I dunno. The shine doesn't bother me that much. It would happen sooner or later anyway.

The Lightpad's caps actually have no shine at all though, which is good! I actually have a few PBT Alps sets with no shine, but they're either too rare to screw with (the Xerox Docutech boards), or just not something I want because of the legends, like with the SGI Granite. For some reason, it's just really hard to find an AT101 with mint caps, lol.

I have some IBM 5140 caps that would work well for the alphanums that I've dyed black too. I dunno though. I'm okay with the AT101 caps for now.

Yeah, from the dyed key caps, to the sleeved cables, the copper weight, and the hotswap-modded Alps PCB. It's been one hell of a hassle, but I'm glad to be done for the most part!

If I ever either get A) a sand blaster and another Dell AT101 or B) an AT101 with mint caps with NO shine, I'll give dyeing the caps another go. That's all I see in the future for these. I think all is pretty much done.

The Lightpad still needs a plate. LeandreN's guys should have it done by the end of the month, hopefully.

Dude, you projects are a sight to sore eyes. When I look at your boards I remember what this hobby is all about. Your boards are not just another kit put together, it's something truly custom with a personal touch.
I'm kind of fed up with artistic photography of the same plain boards and caps.

Thanks man! It's really nice to see these kinds of comments because sometimes it's just so draining to do all the work I have to do for some of these mods, and without much of a good workspace, it always throws off the balance of my room (ie, it gets really messy) whenever I get through a project. It's easy to get close to being fed up with things at times! The hotswap modding for the Leeku Alphas PCB very nearly drove me to insanity.

Yeah, there's something about personalizing these that really makes them feel like they are really my own and not someone else's kit that anyone could put together. It's definitely a nice feeling at the end of the day.

It's crazy looking back and thinking about how many hours I've put into these builds.

those coils came out really well.

and I kind of like the look of the exposed usb connectors

now you just need blacked out kirbies and you'll be all set.

Still haven't found a case for it, but I trust I'll find the right one for it sooner or later.

I really enjoy Matias clicks (and "pine" white Alps for that matter), but blue Alps are better. Hands down. Also, the noise they emit is more pleasant (lower in both frequency and volume) so the WAF is way higher. She actually likes this one a lot. Lucky me it's ANSI, or it would've been mine no more. ;)

That looks pretty sweet as is! Can't you just put four rubber mats on it and use it as is? :P

I suppose I didn't add much, but I just built up my second Duck Eagle again (I have two, but the more well-known one is in my profile pic). I'm just waiting for a nice case to come along for it and all will be as it should. <3

I knowwwww. The Caps Lock is stepped and therefore doesn't fit the profile of the keycap set, and the spacebar only supports Cherry stabs. I actually tried to file down the pegs in order to get them to fit, and it sort of worked, but it made it a little unstable and tough to press down. In the end, I think the results came out okay regardless!

This is about a week late, but I bought a cheap $26 tai hao ABS keyset. Lucky for me, my recent crapbag had a short shift in a blue that's sort-of-close-enough to fit in. Not the right profile either. It'll do.

Works well with the blue LEDs and the polycarb cloud keycap i've had forever.
