Built a case/wrist rest for the JD40 today.  Wood is Purple heart and is finished with Tung Oil and then waxed.  The mounting area is routed out so that the bottom is solid.  I still need to get the correct hardware to mount the top plate and a small enough drill bit for said screws, but overall, I am happy with it.

That is so awesome. Although I do find it hilariously ironic that you chose to put a 40% board in such a massive case :P
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Thanks.  It is actually roughly the width of a 60%.  I measured the distance of my wrists when comfortably resting on a normal tkl and added a little to that for the actual case.  It looks bigger in the photos than it actually is due to the small size of the JD40.  The next one I do will be a little narrower and shorter on the depth as well.
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

White double shot keycaps to my Dell AT101W. Also will be swapping the black alps for Matias click switches painting the plate.  Thinking about painting the outside of the case.

I will try to get some better pictures over the weekend.  I left the wood near the window to help with the aging and it is now a bit more purple.  I also added another couple coats of wax to get the color even deeper.   :thumb:

Edit:  Took some pictures outside this morning to better show the colors.  Picture above is a bit washed out, but these new ones are a touch warm.  Someday I will learn to take better photos.

Haha. Retro is what I was going for. Pleased with how heavy and solid it is.
I mean it's very average in that, overall it turned out how I planned but I underestimated how easily the 1.5mm wall sheet would bow under the heat from welding. Pictures won't really show that well but there is slight bowing on a couple of faces.

I am gradually completing my second full size Model M, although it does need a bolt mod at some stage.

A couple more keycaps added, before and after ...

95554-0

95556-1

Interesting Tab key - it has only one arrow and no word, the Tab key on my other two have two opposite direction arrows and the word Tab on their Tab keys.  Anyone else seen that?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I am gradually completing my second full size Model M, although it does need a bolt mod at some stage.

A couple more keycaps added, before and after ...

Both of my boards have the regular one with two arrows and 'tab'.

That does look similar!  Keycaps swapped all over the place - it doesn't bother me, just something slightly different :)

A paint job and keyset.

It was tough finding keys the right shade of purple for something that wasn't a crazy price. These still aren't really dark enough for what I wanted, but they will work well enough.

Just waiting for my custom keys to come in from WASD now. They shipped today!

In the following thread you will find a very light purple set of keycaps....is this more of the color you were looking for?

Replaced alt with a code key. Used a spare stem to help stabilise and reverse bent a wire stabiliser for space bar. It is far from perfect but is working quite good, a bit stiff though. also killed right alt with Sharpkeys

That's actually a very pleasing lavender for me. Nicely done! What paint did you use for the case? Looking to mod my QFR soon.
