What is the average weight of the 60% case with brass plate? Looking to see how heavy this case will be.

Alps support, or compatibility with H87a PCBs?

I've looked at the H87a. It appears to me it should be compatible, but I can't really say for sure.

Hi. Was wondering what the weight of the HMKB-80 would be w/ brass plate? The weight listed seems to be for the standard plate.

Thanks!

Can we get some pics of what the bottom and inside of these cases look like?

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=103257.msg2861577#msg2861577

screw access holes in the corners will get smaller. they don't need to be that big.

That's much more helpful, thanks!
But still, can there be some views of the inside? like inner sides of the bottom/top case,
And, most importantly, picture showing how pcb and plate are mounted.
Sorry if those are already displayed somewhere that I missed, please throw a link.
Thanks again.

Update:
I found mounting animation at https://heavymetalkeyboards.com/
structure is pretty clearly shown there, but still can't find photos of the actual inside.

if you compare the density of the two materials you will be able to determine if there is any real difference in weight. volume is constant.
If I remember correctly brass is just above 8000kg/m^3. steel is varies but is generally also close to that.

I'm not really sure what you expect to see inside? There is just the plate and the PCB inside, noting else hides there. You can find another picture here, first page of the IC:

that difference is so tiny it is lost after rounding. the weight on the product page is therefore the same. maybe add about 0.05kg for the brass plate version.

i was in the shop, but i thought i read in the features that they didnt have them. i think i just read it too fast and combined it with the line below about no in-switch LEDs. my mistake.

Plastik has previously stated his preference for the black bolts. And IMO, they look nice being black.

I want the 95 in beige but have no idea what to do about this. Can I pay someone to solder some switches on for me? I'm not cool like you guys.

Since reading is hard, I'll give you a second try by copying directly from the FAQ in the OP:

Q: How long will the GB run?
A: About one month, I estimate until the end of may or start of june.

You'll always read something in the likes of "just solder it, it isn't hard". Which is actually true, first I was afraid of doing it myself, but after the first few switches you'll notice it actually is pretty easy.
On the other hand, depending on where you are located, there is probably a makerspace or some community member around who'll assist or do it for/with you.

As malde already said, of course you can pay someone local or try to get help from someone for this. But then again, soldering isn't hard and it's a handy skill to have. You also don't need much for a small project like soldering on a few switches:
- soldering iron (The Miniware ones are really good and inexpensive portable/beginner irons. TS80 if you have a USB Quickcharge Power Bank or charger and TS100 if you prefer barrel jacks and more power.)
- solder wire (0.5 to 1mm, leaded is easier if you can still get it)
- some isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush to clean the flux residue
That's it.

Okay, I'm going to see if I can apprehend a soldering iron in the coming weeks and give it a go, or find some nerd who'll do it for me for like $50. I'll be back with an update.

don't get leaded solder, as a beginner i doubt you'll have the ventilation to suck all the smoke away.. and you don't wanna get braindamage

You... won’t get brain damage from leaded solder. The fumes are the same as for non leaded solder, it’s rosin. You’d have to be heating the solder to impossible temps to get lead fumes. Your not getting any lead into your system unless you’re licking the solder. Lead free solder will require higher temperatures, you’re more likely to want to use flux, and in general it will be slightly more difficult for a newbie.

Just in case you do learn how to solder, you will be disappointed. Because if I remember correctly, when I learned it, I did not feel any cooler than before :(

If not:
There are quite a few who offer to build you the the keyboard for commission. What I have seen, I say, they all do e very good job and they wor is worth every penny.

Soldering is a boring skill, gets old pretty quickly. Desoldering ... is still so much fun for me as all I have is a solder sucker pump thing, no fancy FR301 desoldering stations (cause they are vvv expensive).

My current score is 2 PCBs ruined and 1 preserved lol

Your stabilizers need to be PCB mount for this. The switches can be plate or PCB mount. The only difference between these is that the PCB mount versions have extra two little legs that help them stick into the PCB. You should always get PCB mount switches with the extra two legs, even if they are held in a plate. Don't bother about "plate mount switches".

Great comment; to expand on the "why", if you have PCB mount switches but end up needing plate-mount switches, you can easily clip the extra legs off.

If the reverse is true (have plate-mount switches for a PCB mount setup) the switches are incompatible.
