VØID
65% Top Mount + O-Ring Keyboard

0. Status
Prototype #4 is currently being tested, no improvement is needed, will proceed to the production unit soon.
Our target is to launch the group buy phase in Q1 2024.

1. Intro
Hello everyone! Allow me to introduce Void, a 65% layout mechanical keyboard kit heavily inspired with a dual mounting system, top mount and o-ring mount.
Void provides an adjustable typing experience that allows users to customize the stiffness and sound characteristics. Users can choose between a top mount for a stiffer typing experience and sound, or an o-ring mount for a softer typing experience and isolated sound.

Interest check is now open. Your input will be very valuable.

3. Design
With a design language similar to my past work on the stacked acrylic keyboard Vertizon, Vøid offers an aggressive look while still maintaining a clean design.

4. Specifications

Vøid Specifications:
- Layout: 65%
- Mounting system: Top mount and gummy o-ring mount
- Typing Angle: 7.5°
- Effective keyboard height: 23.35mm
- Materials: Aluminum 6063, Copper Bottom Plate, Stainless Steel Rear Bumper
- Plate: 1.5mm Aluminium, Polycarbonate, POM, Carbon Fiber, FR4 (1.6mm)
- PCB: In-house design PCB void65 1.6mm thickness solder or hot-swap - configurable with QMK/VIA

Parts included with the kit:
- Keyboard case: (Top case, Bottom case, Rear bumper, Bottom plate)
- Selection plate (Aluminium, Polycarbonate, POM, Carbon Fiber, FR4)
- 1.6mm Hotswap/Solder PCB; layout information will be shared later
- Daughterboard JST Cable
- 1x O-ring (50a)
- 4x Custom-designed rubber feet
- Plate support switch comb/fork
- Hand-carry keyboard bag
- Other accessories

5. Constructions

Vøid consist 4 major parts:
1. Top case with aluminum 6063
2. Bottom case with aluminum 6063
3. Rear bumper with aluminum 6063 or Stainless steel
4. Chassis/bottom cover with aluminum 6063 or Copper

In the 4th iteration, we optimized the height of the overall board to find the ideal typing height, as we believe typing height would be a crucial factor in achieving comfortable typing. We reduced the EKH height from 25.49mm in the previous iteration to 23.35mm, which is a decrease of approximately 2.14mm.

We also added some gutter to optimize the travel distance for SMT components from the PCB, such as diodes, micro controller, and hotswap sockets, while keeping the overall board volume.

6. Dimensions

7. Mounting System

Top mount
With 7 mounting point

O-ring
Friction fits o-ring mount with inner wall for isolated sound

8. Color Options
We are currently exploring the color options. Here's the early concept of the color selections. There might be changes in the future, to be announced.

Black

White

Brown

Red

Polycarbonate

Raw look
The exterior of the aluminium will have a raw look with machine marks. To prevent oxidation, we will apply a clear coat.

All Black
The original idea of an aluminum rear bumper and bottom case will still be offered.

9. Layout

Solder layout provides more flexibility, including stepped Caps Lock, ISO, split Backspace, 7u + 6.25u spacebar, and the "cursed" layout. The cursed layout allows users who don't like arrow keys to experience the Void.

While hotswap will offer less flexibility compared to the solder version, it still supports stepped caps lock and split backspace compatibility.

10. Pricing
Alu Kit: est $275
Copper SS kit: est $350.

13. Design changelog

Prototype#4
1. Redesign bottom case for lower typing height
2. Add gutter for better clearance and travel distance for smt component on the PCB

Prototype #3
1. Add inner wall for friction fit o-ring
2. Try other material than aluminium, such as copper, stainless steel, and carbon fiber

Prototype #2
1. Remove gasket leaf mount options
2. Redesign exterior design due to leaf mount removal, side bezel is thinner
3. Custom molded rubber feet
4. Changed case screw size from M2.5 to M3
5. Move jst cable gutter to back side of the case for better cable management

Prototype #1
1. Initially, Void is designed to support multiple mounting such as gasket leaf mount that supports poron, silicone socks, and silicone gasket.

14. Keep in loop

If there is, what's the material?

Still exploring, currently we only focus on aluminum 6063 for all parts

GLWIC

Will share, there will be hotswap and solder
hotswap supports step caps, split backspace, tsangan bottom
while solder should covers all hotswap layouts + 6.25u spacebar, ISO backspace, split L shift

Is 1.5mm PCB a mistake? Please consider using 1.6mm (or 1.2mm if you must).

Thanks for including more info on the layouts the PCB will report. That cursed hotswap PCB looks crazy.

Might want to consider updating the IC form to ask people if they have any suggestions or comments on the board (like different weights options) or to ask them which version they'd buy (e.g. hotswap, solder). Also, not sure why you're asking people for their real name on the IC.

Fair point for name field, previously we have it on our local community, it's removed now

To achieve Ferarri red color I think it would need electrophoersis coat instead of anodization, currently we limited on that
but we're not limiting for any possibilities, we had exploration on red color as you can check here

Yes for the pricing unfortunatelly it's really difficult to lower the price considering it has 4 parts for the case it self
We initiate this thread is to meassure the demand, at this stage with current IC data, we only confident producing 100pcs

Point taken, I understand the concern and we will figure this out although it’s difficult as we mentioned the reason earlier, but we understand the pricing could be better so we will working on that

might update this, especially for flex materials such as Polycarbonate, POM, etc
The flex-cut design is for stiffer materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber, etc to make it less rigid and achieve acoustic that we desire

as stated above, the default plate will be polycarbonate but we planning to provide more materials to play with
more updates on the content will come time to time

Is the intention for this board to come with an ISO compatible plate, or to offer an ISO compatible plate for for sale as an extra? I notice the prototype 3 board has an ANSI only plate installed.

Really hope this isn't going to be another instance of a board with an ISO compatible PCB, but an ANSI only plate.

BTW prototype 3 looks fantastic.

I tried a lot of plates till losing counts but since proto #2, we already supports ISO, in #3 we supports 6.25u
changes log is scattered right now since I'm focusing on finalizing the design but once finallized I will provide better clarity on everything

after several test and few design iteration, yes we might change the cursed layout to solder PCB only due to interference on R3 and pcb clearance issue on hotswap version

been following since this was posted. really enjoy this design, especially the all black! i would prob have to opt for the all alu to achieve this.

have you thought about offering any coating/PVD for the stainless steel/copper parts? i'm good either way, just a possible option for those who want the increased weight of copper or brass.

That's fair enough. Better to get the board right than rush it. I'm expecting great things after all these iterative revisions and rounds of prototypes.

I don't mind if you don't get a European vendor in particular, but please ensure at least one vendor you get is capable of shipping to Europe! (I don't mind paying international shipping with a reputable courier like DHL or something.)

I'd absolutely love a polycarbonate one. IC done. Couldn't vote for PC in the form but that's lovely to see.

Our lead vendor is Clickclack, will update on the thread
They have experience shipping to the rest of the world
I might need to discuss for which vendor we will work with near the GB
We always open for discussion for vendors who interested to work together
