Ordering from ebay
« on: Mon, 09 March 2015, 14:28:08 »
Hello... I'm in the market for a new keyboard and saw a few on ebay that caught my eye. These are keyboards that would be shipped from Korea, in particular, from the seller known as "widebasket".

So I was wondering.. has anyone here had any experience with ordering from Korea through ebay? or with widebasket in particular? What is the process to get the keyboard through customs?

In the past, I haven't had to do/pay anything and the item ordered simply passed through customs within a day or so. If I were to buy say... a Filco from this seller, would I have to pay a fee to customs? and if so.. where/how is that handled?

Any and all info is greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your time!  :thumb:

I haven't bought from them personally, but I understand that widebasket is a trustworty seller. I believe SpAmRaY has bought from them in the past.

Customs shenanigans would depend entirely on where you live.

I've never been charged anything importing something like a keyboard into the US. I think customs fees only come into effect when you are dealing with >$2500 or something.

Customs does hold the items for inspection, and then sends them on. It can delay you receiving the package for up to a few days.

You rarely have to deal with customs here in the US. Canada on the other hand? You might find yourself paying a ridiculous brokerage fee in excess of 30% of the package's declared value if using UPS/FedEx. Any time I ship stuff to Canada it's by post/mail.

Ahhh... Good to know!

Thanks for all the quick replies, I'm feeling much more comfortable about making a purchase via ebay.

Now to decide between 87u silent vs white carbon fiber filco...  :p
