"StarWave" aluminium case project
« on: Sun, 10 May 2015, 10:39:51 »
Hi guys!

Some time ago I came up with an idea of the new keyboard case project.  My goal was to make a 4-key keyboard, with a display screen on the top of the case.

This will be my third keyboard and as 2 previous ones this one will be based on techkeys.us PCB
you can find this PCB here:
http://techkeys.us/collections/accessories/products/techkeys-programmable-keyboard-business-card

I decided to name to project “StarWave”.
The case will be made from aluminium, will have 2 brass legs on both sides, and carbon fibre+brass back plate.

As techkeys PCB has 7x24 LEDs screen I needed to find way to “project“ led light beam on the top of  the case.
Initial solution for that is to use fibre optics.
As an extra feature I plan to cover the case with pure silver (or chrome)

So far I have made a prototype, which turned out quite nicely...but I had few problems.

1 custom animation on the screen
2 main case finish – options: uncoated aluminium, anodised chrome or silver coating
3 shape of backplate brass part – ?
4 diameter of the reset button hole-paper clip size?

This is 1st build video of machining the back plate.

I will be more than happy to hear your feedback whether you like the project, or not, and suggestions how to improve this design.
