Previous Description
More
We made a one-off ‘Matrix-Cyberspace-Blade-Runner-Hangul-Rain’ 90’s themed Hacker aesthetic stacked acrylic keyboard (say it 10 times fast?) for Mysterium PCBs, based on a concept by ULLIAM and designed by our team at Protozoa Studio. We got a lot of interest in making a production version.

The matrix hangul text is a translation of Roy Batty’s monologue in Blade Runner (tears in the rain), which ULLIAM used on his desk mats for KAT Cyberspace. The acid green edge glow acrylic matches the well known cyberspace aesthetic.

A one-off GLITCH was built by MaxF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEEEKezeniI. The design has been refined and changed (see renders and description). Production units of the GLITCH will have the etched design but no GID infill (this can be DIY’ed at your own risk).

There are 2 versions, (1) ‘P.00 GLITCH’ (matrix rain style), (2) 'P.00 FROST’ (regular style).

Both are compatible with Mysterium PCBs from CFTKB.com or P.01 PCBs from protozoa.studio.

Looking forward to your questions and feedback.

Really interesting design, particularly on the green one. Badge looks great as well. Curious about the top; it looks like there are three layers above the plate (ie: 9mm). The top of most cases is 6 - 6.5 mm, so I'm thinking the keycaps would be considerably "sunk in" to the top. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but it would be nice to see some renders with keycaps to get a better idea of how this would look.
I'll be watching this one; awesome work :thumb:

Is it possible to buy the PCBs bundled with components bundled, but not assembled? I'm not sure why, but I find through-hole work therapeutic. Maybe I'm alone in wanting this.

Does "through-hole work" mean soldering the components on the pcb? You are definitely not alone.....but i hate it. I am warming up the process though. No pun intended.

I do mean soldering the components, yes. I mention through-hole specifically because I'm not a fan of working with surface mount components, so PCBs like this are a goldmine of fun! (fun is relative, of course)

Thanks so much for your kind words and support, It's such a pleasure to be able to get that kind of feedback, for the whole team! Please do watch out for the GB next month if you're still interested when the time comes.

Dimensions? Guessing 7 3mm sheets, so 21mm thick?

You're on point. The plate is included in that measurement too.

Is it possible to buy the PCBs bundled with components bundled, but not assembled? I'm not sure why, but I find through-hole work therapeutic. Maybe I'm alone in wanting this.

Yes for sure, this is how the PCBs come as standard, with components that you have to solder yourself. We are considering an option for those who find soldering all the components intimidating, I'll hopefully have some news on that in a few weeks time around GB start.

Yes indeed you're right - it is 9mm above the plate. I always aim on all my non-stacked plastic designs for 7.8-8mm, standard is around that much for most designers. Unfortunately because of availability of plastic sheets that mostly come in 3mm thickness, we have to use multiples of 3. I'll make sure we get some renders with keycaps as well!

dope af design, will there be iso available?

Mysterium V1 doesn't have ISO, but Mysterium V2 from CFTKB.com does. We are however looking into updating our P.01 Mysterium PCB for ISO, plus a few other features.

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Oh I realize this comment is not very helpful so I will try to help you out

Very good point thanks Treeleaf! It is 6 degrees.

Are there gaps between the layers in the green renders, or are my eyes just tripping? Really nice regardless.

it is a bit trippy haha. No there are no gaps, the profile is staggered and the translucency plays tricks with our eyes.

Yes, we are currently waiting on the second prototype of a barleycorn case, if the quality is good we can run with that manufacturer and not make it too expensive (we think it can only really work if we can get the price down for that one).

Any chance of  smaller form factor (60%-75%) being released at a later date? (I don't know what happened... when i 1st got into the hobby, TKL was my favorite.... Now, i'm gradually liking smaller and smaller form factors...)

Any updates on the Group Buy date? Definitely copping one!

thank you! Not yet but I'm hoping to have updates next week, and we will then start the group buy in earnest once we're happy with the prototypes incoming.

What is this madness!??!?! Holy crap - this is the most different looking board I have seen in months. Nice!

Any chance of  smaller form factor (60%-75%) being released at a later date? (I don't know what happened... when i 1st got into the hobby, TKL was my favorite.... Now, i'm gradually liking smaller and smaller form factors...)

yes.  :thumb:

Looks like most of us here are hyped for Glitch, but I'm gonna give some love to the Frost. What a design! GLWIC and GLWGB! Definitely going to pick Frost up.

Definitely getting a glitch! Love the look.

Didn't see this answered yet. Is the "P.01 ULTRA PCB" a pre-soldered PCB vs. the standard through-hole PCB? With a hotswap designation I'm guessing so but just want to be sure!
