At the end of the day,  It's about Profits.

OLED will eventually be much cheaper to build vs LCD.

Eventhough LCD is the superior technology.


It's very possible that gud' LCDs will become more and more rare into the future.


The reason samsung has avoided OLED for this long, even though LG + Sony are both full ON OLED,  is because for a while Samsung did not have the IP.


Going forward, As samsung brings out Quantum OLED,  the next generation OLED.  It's very possible that they may stop LCD production completely.


Quantum OLED is a bit better than current RGBW Oled from LG.  It uses a Single Blue color oled layer.

Then it has a Red and Green quantum Dot layer, which converts blue light into Red and Green light.  This is how it produces RGB from BLUE only.

Quantum dot is a material that converts photon energy into different colors.


The primary advantage to Quantum OLED vs current tech is that it will have better uniformity and resistance to Burn-in.

HOWEVER, it's still oled, and IT CAN STILL BURN IN..

It also still has the Image persistence problem which smears moving images.

Something we don't know is light leakage characteristics. Because they're doing color conversion, there will be some leakage of blue light, so it won't be as PURE as RGB Oled..



Our only salvation may come from TCL/ Hisense , because they do not have OLED IP and in the near term would continue towards Lightmodulated VA/IPS..   This is good news...  but how long before they too jump ship to OLED smear..

I'm not against the existence of OLED.  I just hope they Preserve and improve LCD.
