Just noticed the thread name was changed. Will there even be a regular 60% option now?

I'm not sure. I have to find the in between of keeping the price down but options open. 60% was about 20% of the total votes, 30% to 75% and the rest to the HHKB layout. I'm putting another questionnaire together right now to cover everything.

Any hope of a "96" variant of this case?  Loving the design.
Real excited for your 75% skeleton arriving, and I've been eyeing the zz-96 layout for "my next".

Hope? Yes. Soon? Probably not. Depends on if this happens and what is most popular next time.

Have you thought about contacting vendors and seeing if they could potentially pick up a couple of orders?
I haven't and won't be. It adds another bit of complexity in my mind.

Does that mean you dropped your original 75% plan? I thought that was your whole mission!

Well if you do decide to add a regular 60% like in the OP I'll be interested  :thumb:

ANOTHER BLOODY POLL

I'm going to get quotes for:
  • HHKB Top
  • 60% Top
  • Winkeyless Top
  • Universal Plate
  • Both Sides Weight
  • Both Sides Bottom
  • Inside Weight
  • Inside Bottom

Here is what is definite:
  • 6061 Aluminum top/plate/bottom
  • Black, Silver, Dark Gray & Red and a wildcard anodizing colors
  • Universal, switch moddable plate
  • Top mounted plate
  • The design
  • You chose the PCB

What I'm unsure on:
  • Weight design
  • Weight material
  • Weight engraving
  • Acrylic diffuser
  • The name
  • Pricing
  • Place of production (desperately trying for UK)
  • Amount available

How are you going to give something to the person who suggests a name that you choose? Unless I'm mistaken, there isn't a way to identify who submitted what name.

I'm just gonna leave my suggestion here, in case anyone is as uncreative as me: HXKB - happy xondat keyboard

The main problem here is that people select $300-324 but then select the most technical and expensive weight. A good proportion of that same set of people chose the diffuser and engraving too.

This just isn't possible. It's either no weight/one sided weight with no engraving/diffuser and $300-324 or $400+ fully kitted out. I don't think more than 30 will be made due to demand so that means the price will be higher. Also the UK/EU Referendum kind of screwed the currency so it makes it even harder to have it made in the UK. I'll be looking into having it done at the same shop as a couple other great boards. If this doesn't happen then I probably won't follow through with this due to cost.

I think at this point, if the people can't vote reasonably, its up to you to change the design/pricepoint as you see fit and attempt to garner interest based on your own design. Voting to change the design and the price is just gonna generate more work for you. It'd be easier to say "here's what we're doing, here's how much it costs. Get in or get out."

Have you posted thread on DT or reddit? You could possibly get a few orders from those forums.

Regardless, if you decide to change the design or not, you can definitely count me in for one piece based on your initial design. And maybe two based on the final one  :thumb:

I really want this to happen, and if it doesn't, it's like God showed me what heaven is like and decided I wasn't fit for it

LoL.  As soon as I saw the poll I knew that would be the case.

I chose  60%,  $300-$324,  No weight,  No defuser,  etc.

I feel like if you want a standard 60%, then you can get that from just about anywhere. Having a good solid case for a HHKB style board is rare, currently the only ones I know of being the Duck Viper and KMAC Happy. This is why the HHKB style should be the first to be made!

Just throwing it out there that a non tray-style 60% is actually quite rare.

KMAC Happy is top/bottom mount; Viper/Eagle/Mini is tray mount, Weaven is slid in and 356mini is mounted with a rubber seal. This would be the 3rd non-tray style 60% from what I know.

I'm happy to offer all 3 tops, as long as it doesn't bring the cost of the whole case up.

I would hope the various tops wouldn't change the cost terribly as they are largely the same part, save for a few different cuts for the integrated switch blockers.

If it ends up being HHKB top only, I'd like to reiterate my interest in getting a raw set so that I can mill it out to a standard 60% layout. I'm a huge fan of my KMAC2 and would love a top mounted 60% to accompany it.

Hi,man i mean no offense. Just saying...I know the design differences. It's just my first impression.
People may think my pad are like kpad. But if you look closely you can see the difference. Before i introduce my pad to the community i was prepared to hear people say REVO pad are like Kpad. You should do the same here. It doesn't hurt it looks a little bit like 356mini. I just saw someone want to buy 356mini for over 1500 usd yesterday. With otd out of the picture,it may be a good thing and help with the sale. Don' be so sensitive. In end of the day,all that matter is how good is your keyboard. It's all about how you deliver something from the render to the real stuff. People can say whatever they want and it won't stop those who like this keyboard.
p.s I have done a HHKB 60% keyboard in 2014 and it just looks like HHKB....Now i am thinking about it and i feel like a good design...Maybe i'll bring it back.
Anyway good luck with everything,i always love to see more 60% keyboard.

I love the KPAD. So any keypad that looks like it I think looks good as well.  I'm seriously thinking about buying one of your RevoPads.

Sorry to get OT.
You should think fast,my friend. I won't do another round anytime soon. I have so many plans.

Actually,my CNC factory are fully booked for the next four months.

Good luck :D :D :D

This looks like otd 356mini with HHKB layout......
What's wrong with a simple design? Here is a great example of a design that looks like a 356mini:

No offence taken, I just wanted to provoke your actual opinion rather than just a one sentence reply that doesn't help at all.

It doesn't hurt to look the same (I'd say it looks more like a Happy but whatever), although it is important to look at the smaller details such as how the plate is mounted, the angle, the weight (completely unique in the land of 60%), and the thickness of the sides.

I really want to make something that hopefully leads the class, so I've been putting all my spare time into it. I want to get this right, and I'm willing to put all the work in into making it perfect.

The design is fantastic, I absolutely can't wait!

So you're going to call it the XK? Or is the name still up in the air?

Going to post a long update tonight on my flight. I have the quotes and it looks like it will happen this month.

Name is still not chosen, XK# is just my internal naming scheme.

Case:
  • Top (HHKB/Winkeyless/60%)
  • Plate
  • Brass Weight
  • Bottom
Specs:
  • Full 6061 aluminium case
  • Top mounted plate
  • Brass weight
  • 8 degrees tilt
  • HHKB, 60% & Winkeyless top parts
  • Supports ISO/Stepped Caps Lock/Split Right Shift
  • Engraved weight (design pending)
  • 30 cases made
Anodizing Colors:
Black, Space Gray, Silver, Gold, Red

Price (ex. fees & shipping):
~$330 for the case

Shipping:
An accurate weight is not known, but it's looking around 3kg. All keyboards will be shipped from the United Kingdom. Shipping will be in a seperate invoice.

PCB compatibility:
This case works with any standard 60% PCB, such as the NerD 60, GH60, b.face etc. I will offer a PCB as an optional component.

Other Notable Stuff:
  • The brass weight may be electro nickel plated, but if not they will be polished.
  • Everything will be machined at the same factory as the TGR boards, so you can use this to gauge quality.
  • Deposits are still in the works, as I'm not sure I want to/need to.
  • Engraving on the weight will happen, but I'm not sure what the design will be. All I know is that the weights will be numbered.
  • I'm using 6061 instead of 7075 as it anodizes better and the additional strength 7075 gives isn't worth it and isn't needed.
  • The design may change, but nothing dramatic. The changes will be minimal and I doubt everyone will notice.
  • The group buy should be open within the next week or two (definitely by the end of July).
  • Acrylic diffuser is a maybe.

I'm in for a 60%. Will I be able to get one unanodized?

I'll also be getting a steel plate cut for it, any chance you'd share the original vector?

Maybe, but it depends on how much demand there is.

Do you have estimates for the shipping cost?
Not yet as I want to keep it accurate.

1. Probably not, why would you? 2. Maybe, depends on if I get any made.

Yay regular 60%.  By any chance will these be hard anodized?
Working on getting at least one color hard.
