[GB] TriC 75% - Brevis
« on: Thu, 22 December 2016, 04:05:22 »

TriC75 – Brevis

With *two!* KBD75 buys going on one after the other, and yuktsi teasing his 75%, it’s pretty much the worst time for another aluminum 75%. And yet here we are.

Starting price is $150. $145 @ 20 orders (we are here!). $140 @ 40 orders. For reference, the price in China is 999 RMB, and my current exchange rate is 1 USD = 6.8436 CNY. Shipping to international destinations is approximately $35, less for Asian countries.

Payment accepted via Paypal. Shipping will be invoiced for separately, dependent on destination once the items are ready to ship. I think I forgot about this halfway through and invoiced for shipping anyways.

Unlike my other buys, the above prices do not include Paypal fees.

Designed by TriCStudio, manufactured by HolyOOPs.

The buy includes:

•   TriC 75% case (Brevis)
•   TriC75 PCB (running ps2avrGB, SMT components presoldered, RGB underglow, TriC logo lighting, got Hojin's approval)
•   Acrylic insert for diffusion of side lighting
•   Appropriate case screws
•   Aluminum case feet

Color options:

•   Black
•   Gray
•   Silver
•   Green
•   Purple
Red

Tentative manufacturing time: 2 months. First match ready to ship.

Order here

Order list (check your order here, updated manually)

Album of the completed prototype (has some pics of the TriC 80 prototype scattered in, low res) Alternate album since slimg is down, thanks suparnemo!

Same album, high res

Updates:

1/4/2017

Invoices have been sent for the current orders. HK shipping adjusted to $15.

1/19/2017

Currently at 17 orders (adjusted out a few due to refunds/cancellations). Will send out new invoices as the reduced price of $145. If we hit 20, I'll send out the price cut refunds for the older orders.

1/21/2017

Hit the 20 order price break! Once they are paid for, I'll send out the refunds  :thumb:

3/24/2017

Order count is now over 40 units (if there aren't too many cancellations) which means the price of the kit is now at $140. All outstanding orders have been invoiced, and shipping will commence shortly. DHL for international, EMS for most Asian destinations.

Does this use a standard 6.25 spacebar?

What options do I have for the bottom row?

I believe Tric has a different tkl design coming up.There were some photos posted of it in the Tric 60% thread

Looks very nice.  Unfortunately I went in on the KBD75 because I wanted a raised case, otherwise I'd be all over this.  Best of luck!

Nice if we could take a look at the PCB & also the case with the acrylic inserts in it.

That is a good looking case. I like the low profile and the side cuts for LEDs. Is there switchtop removal? Does it support cherry stabs?
Probably TeX'ing right now.

This looks beautiful.

I'm wondering if an alternative layout is supported, for which the backspace is split into two 1u (just like HHKB)? Based on the picture, the plate doesn't offer this option.

Definitely not with that plate. I would prefer this layout as well since I enjoy it so much on smaller boards, but I still give it a pass on the layout due to its size.

Yup not on this plate. But at 75% there's more than enough room for a separate 1u del key, or whatever you would want to use in place of the 2u bs.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm very used to HHKB layout in which the backslash is replaced by backspace, escape is moved to th left of '1', and backspace is split to '~' and '\'.

It's more about habit rather than space.

Does this use a standard 6.25 spacebar?

What options do I have for the bottom row?

Here is an album with all of the supported layouts: http://sli.mg/a/MTpRr0

Shipping to UK $35?

Yessir

That is a good looking case. I like the low profile and the side cuts for LEDs. Is there switchtop removal? Does it support cherry stabs?

No switchtop removal. Supports regular PCB-mount Cherry stabilizers.

really like the way the case looks. Any chance of us seeing this design in a tkl format in the near future?

TriC has an 80 with some pics posted near the end of the TriC 60 GB thread by the designer himself.

I assume the cutouts on the side are for acrylic diffuser?

Yep! Big album of the completed prototype(s)

It's a rolling buy. The parts are already in production to cut down on manufacturing time, with the orders "finalized" when anodizing happens and the colors are set in stone (or aluminum, rather).

Tentative end date will be around late January.

It says TriC logo lighting... but I don't see a logo.  Does it have a lighted logo somewhere?
Does the PCB support backlight LEDs, or just the side RGB lighting?
Are there any photos of the PCB available?

Love the look of this one.  If this stayed open through January I will likely jump on board in a couple weeks.

I've requested some pics of the PCB from the designer.

The PCB supports both in-switch LEDs and RGB LEDs at the bottom.

Everyone: If you've paid, I'm going to mark your payment in Paypal as "service rendered/shipped". This way I will get better ease of access to the funds (they are currently on hold in my account which is mucho no bueno). You are still very much protected by Paypal's 180-day protection period, and I will post actual tracking numbers in the orders list as they are created. Scratch that, no longer necessary

It's quite tedious to run the GB for triC because they keep pushing the delivery dates back for better quality. (Personal opinion)

Fixed with your help. Thanks dude

TriC60 was pushed back for a loooong time for the reason above, but the cases did come out flawlessly. Brevis is on track to take a lot less time than that, but should maintain consistent quality.

There is only stepped vs non-stepped capslock, and winkey (6.25u space) vs winkeyless (7u space) bottom row to choose from. The two modifiers between spacebar and arrow keys are always 1.5u.

It's $35 to Canada via DHL Express.

Proto is gray with a black plate.

Interested, but I have a few question.

1. Is there a key size diagram?

2. Is the plate designed so the keys can be opened?

3. What types of switches is this designed to support?

1. Will ask for one, but basically it's what I said in my last reply.

"There is only stepped vs non-stepped capslock, and winkey (6.25u space) vs winkeyless (7u space) bottom row to choose from. The two modifiers between spacebar and arrow keys are always 1.5u."

2. Nope. Currently hotlites are a better solution if you want ease of swapping internals. Having cutouts that enable switch top opening ruins the aesthetic imo.

3. MX-type switches, be it Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Outemu, Greetech, etc.

Thanks.  That right shift key is going to be very hard to find in keysets. All the other keys look to be pretty standard. Anyone have thoughts about sets that have a 2 width shift and a 1.5 width shift(just guessing from the layout but that is what it looks like)?

It's a 1.75 shift. Most "nice" keycaps will have that, so pretty much any gmk set and most cherry pbt sets will come with it, and all SP sets will have a kit for it.

One thing you want to watch out for is finding a set with properly profiled keys for the last column of keys

I have the following question:

I want a 75% board for a special setup that I want to screw into a metal arm instead of placing it on a table. Does this have some kind of screw holes on the back that could be used for this purpose, as in attaching it firmly to a piece of sheet metal for example?

Also, am I correct in assuming that I would have to source and solder the cherry mx switches (and keycaps) and possibly in-switch LED's myself?

i think this might be possible if you screw the piece of sheet metal into the holes that are being used for the aluminum cone feet. it should be relatively firm.

yup, you have to provide your own switches and LEDs.

I would also like to know when the order deadline is... If it's not already mentioned somewhere I overlooked.

Also, is it possible at all to order an extra PCB and if so, how would I go about doing that and how much would it cost extra?
