Is this still compatible with the Winkeyless B.87 PCB? Is there an option to buy the case without PCB?

not compatible, the usb port is top left on the b.87, the case has a cutout in between the end of the f row and beginning of the navigation keys

gon's tkl pcb may be compatible though

Any example photos of the starlight silver colour? :)

Clear-anodized aluminum (no dye to make it lighter or darker, so just silver).

Thanks for the answer!

GON tkl pcbs are interchangeable with the tx87 pcb, I used one in my tx87 instead of the tx pcb it came with

WOOO I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!

- Thanks to everyone for their support in this GB –
Hubble for the initial design, YukTsi for his revisions, and Asilan and EVE for the final rendition of the Mira.
Thank you to FrostyToast for keeping up with the preorders and numbers. I can’t imagine the headache that has been.
Thank you to Zeal for his support and donation of the gold stabilizer set to purchasers of the 57 numbered boards.
Thank you to Limitz for all his support and encouragement when I was ready to stop dealing with this never-ending mess of a group buy.
Thanks to zzyjayfree for finding a manufacturer and dealing with my endless questions and revisions of the Mira.
Thank you to Photoelectric for writing the GB thread and doing the order form for the Mira when I was unable to do so.
Lastly, thank you to Geek Hack and its members for their support of this GB when it seemed like it was sure to fail.

Thank you ninjadoc et al. for all your hard work in order to bring this project to fruition. I just saw Hidden Figures (keeping with the NASA and space theme too :) ) last weekend and I was reminded of a quote from it: "We all get there together or we don't get there at all."

I'm so hyped for this as well

Huge thanks to ninjadoc for keeping the dream alive.

I remember sneaking my phone out in class to get the latest updates on this board. Who would have predicted the journey that this board would have gone through :')

Will the SS insert be polished as well?

Brass has higher density, so it is heavier for the same volume.

Won't these brass weights be prone to tarnishing? Or will there be some sort of coating? I vaguely recall someone saying they would be "naked" brass but I might be thinking about someone talking about a brass switch plate.

You actually typed this up as I was going to submit my order. If the brass is subject to tarnishing, instead of opening the board up every few months to polish it I was going to consider getting the SS.

Yes, they will be uncoated.  Stainless steel won't be tarnishing.  Brass will tarnish, but just the very top thin layer, and it's apparently fairly easy to make it shiny again (look up brass polishing, there are various products for it or even natural ingredients).  The problem with a brass plate is that there are switches on it, which makes cleaning it difficult.  But a bottom weight is easy to remove and polish as often as you wish.  I think the tarnished brass look goes well with some colors as well, like black.

Yah definitely - it's the subtlety of the ano colour that really makes a custom board stand out

I'm quite fond of the appearance of weathered brass and I think it's going to look great with the lunar gray case!

When I was in the navy, I spent a great deal of time shining brass valves and fittings on seawater systems. It only takes a few minutes to get it shined up like new, even if it's covered in verdigris. As they won't be exposed to seawater, the weights should take a great deal longer to build up a patina.

Are the prototype colors actual prototypes with the actual colors we will be seeing or are those just renders?

Kind of disappointed in the grey that was settled on as the grey from the interest check didn't seem as green. If it's really supposed to be like that might have to go with black or blue then.

I wish I could get both a gray and a blue keyboard. I'm going with that gray with green tinge, plus brass weights. Reminds me of the parkerization on some old Garand and Springfield rifles.

I actually think that tarnished metal looks great in most cases. I have a copper lamp on my house, it's a dark orange with a green pattern because it's reacting to it's environment. It just shows that the item has an age and a history. It makes the items unique and beautiful.

It's hard to decide the color now. I like silver but I just joined the GB for a silver LZ CLS. 2 silver kb at the same time is a good idea? zzz
yea I'm totally stuck on color choices
I swear unless a keyboard has a purple option Its basically impossible for me to pick a color

Ya, it's hard to know when you don't see the kb in person. Just submitted for a silver Mira with SS plate and SS weight. Hope I won't regret  :'(

Will you lower the value of the package to avoid customs? To like $20.

This please!

Yes. That'd be a godsend. I'm on 21% on board+shipping + processing fees  :(

I'm in if this happens. I'm in Canada, and I'd really rather not have to pay 20-25% of the cost of the board in taxes and brokerage.

Alternatively, I'd also be willing to proxy all Canadian orders if there are enough. Bulk ship to Canada! 👍

Yes, my place has 25% plus 10% VAT for imported stuff like this. I suggest to add one more section on the form like some other GB that is "the amount you want to put in the declaration form".

The second photo is more what silver should look like, I believe.  (That's not the final MIRA SE version for the case form, however.  It's one of the very early prototypes)

before I order,

Who all are the reputable US based keyboard assemblers?
Need a bonafide, trustworthy person.
Trying to avoid another TheChemist disappearing with $800+ of my gear.

Thanks

tl;dr: I've done a lot of keyboard builds for people in the past, along with my own in-depth passion projects that are kind of crazy at times. I'd be more than happy to help you with your build if you need it. Can do any kind of mod you'd like, for the most part.

I would be more than happy to work on your Mira SE for you if you'd like. I've got a lot of experience with building MX boards for others as well as passion projects of mine involving Alps. I've done restoration of vintage boards and switches/key caps, custom assemblies that involve switch tuning (stickering, lube, SIP sockets, spring swaps), stab clipping and sanding (+ bandaid mod) and lubing, etc. Pretty much everything you could ask for when it comes to custom builds. I do also make my own cables, but I'd recommend you go to others for that as it's more of a personal thing for me. There's tons of great cable makers out there.

I've also done crazy projects like hand cutting the copper weight for my Orion v2, hot swap modding Alps boards, which involves drilling the pads out before inserting the holtite sockets, and also a crazy NCR Cherry-lookalike build that's actually Alps.

So I'm pretty much down for almost anything you could ask for and will work with you for as long as you might need assistance.

I'm gonna go ahead and suggest E3E. Pretty standup dude that's pretty committed to the hobby, doubt he'll just leave

Hey thanks, haha. :)
