I personally don't like the Sakura or Koi keys either.
I believe the success of previous camping novelties was great because of the use of negative space and how the minimal aesthetic emulated the images you would see from trail and road signs if you were to go camping.
I think a good novelty for the backspace or enter key is of a Japanese gate (torii). You see these gates in a good number of Japanese hiking trails and they have enough inherent linearity to fit the aesthetic of the other novelties, and most importantly, the camping theme. Also, despite my reservations on the Koi backspace key, I like how it pays homage to the previous iteration of the fish backspace key. For an enter key, I believe a design that is based on a landscape would do well to refer to the mountain enter key in previous rounds.
With that being said, a new round indicates some type of new variation to appease those who already have a previous Camping keyset. At my expense (because I do not own R1 novelties), I support your decision to not rerun the R1 novelties. Along the same vein, I think people should also understand from the thread that you're adamant on having the Hiragana sublegends in the base kit.
I already plan on purchasing the base set but am excited to see what other novelties you come up with given time and feedback!
I will watch your IC with great interest.
