I'm trying to quote someone and am getting a "LOADING..." bar stuck at the top of my page in firefox. Tried several times since 6am.

EDIT: same with IE

And it was this post I was trying to quote:

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=33088.msg1749327#msg1749327

I cannot quote that post either, using Chrome on Mac.

There are some users whose posts generally cannot be quoted at all, and other posts that cannot be quoted at random.

But Chrome under Windows 7 works (for me).

Weird.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Can we get the latest Tapatalk version installed on the server to see if it will fix the problems with the 'Unread Posts' (and timeline) being empty?  This is getting really frustrating.

I've been using the quick replay function for a little week now and sometimes, when I want to quick reply with a quote, the quote won't load. And then if I do a normal reply and try to insert the quote, It won't work.

That happens sometimes.

Sometimes it seems to be a problem quoting one user's posts.

Other times it almost seems random.

Someone said that if you middle click the "Quote" link to open the reply in a new tab, it works every time.  I have yet to encounter an unquotable post to try that.

I'm still using 4.9.5 because after that version they totally screwed everything up with the user interface.

I'm thinking my notifications worked up until the recent changes that made youtube videos work again...not sure if related or not.  :-\

The lastest (4.15.5) works fine (on Lollipop).

Judging by how often they changed the UI in the last half a year, it looks like they don't have any sense for interface design and seem clueless trying to get rid of those negative reviews. Makes me sad.

I'd also appreciate it if the app finally stop appending "Re:" to every PM. My inbox is a mess.

GH's SEO seems to be broken? No Geekhack topics show up if you google: ________ geekhack
It has to be typed as    site:geekhack.org _____________ for topics to show up.

For example:

site:geekhack.org cherry mx switch lubrication guide

vs

cherry mx switch lubrication guide geekhack
geekhack.org cherry switch lube guide (same thing, no GH thread shows up)

Resolving this with google now.  Googlebot stops crawling the site after no long not being able to access it.  I submitted the fetch request.

looks like there are multiple issues. one is a css error in firefox and one is table breakage in a the austere theme

i'm setting up some back-end stuff right now. i'll take a look once we have revision control back up and running and a way to test the fix that's not live.

mkawa, it's also on the 'classic' scheme.  or w/e the orange and black one is called

EDIT:

I'm seeing it on chrome as well.

firefox developer edition v41 and w/e the latest chrome is.  windows 8.1

it looks like the youtube player isn't self-closing its div tags properly...

EDIT2:

also...there are TWO 'instances' of the youtube player?  each youtube player uses the same ID twice.  so there are 4 instances of the same ID being used.

....

can cpt or a mod edit the post and remove the player and see if that changes anything?

yes, the way the original code was set up overlays the initial play button on the youtube preview, then fetches the youtube video and layers it on top of the previews. some of this is done with jquery library methods that have been changed in recent versions of jquery.

it's probably highslide. i'll toss it on the todo list.

please report any and all performance problems you see. at the bottom of every page there is a line like so:

> Page created in 0.092 seconds with 17 queries

it should never take more than a 1s to compute a page. if you see a slow loading page, please paste the link into this thread and the timing data (as above)

I had a issue with adding a photo to my profile gallery also.  I didn't get a error, but all it did was load the text, and it's not showing the picture.

Now the text just seems to be stuck there.  Can be seen here (Top Left)   https://geekhack.org/index.php?action=profile;area=pictures;u=30202

BTW, is the limitation, that smileys aren't rendered when the post includes a quote with an image specific to Geekhack, or a problem with SMF in general?

Example:

This has been happening for a very long time.

I'm seeing some really weird formatting errors.  At first I thought it was my internet connection, which plays up sometimes in wet weather, but it is happening consistently.

For example: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69665.msg1673733#msg1673733

Looks like the following in Chrome and Firefox on OS X:

104513-0

Note that it is CPT's post linked above - I scrolled up slightly so that the previous post can be seen as ok, and CPT's post borks the layout somehow.

yah, i've been seeing that too.

highslide -> broken, parsing error
ultimate profile -> possibly broken
mysterious formatting errors
database writes not serialized

The "new posts" icon is not disappearing for me in a consistent way.

If I open Classifieds, for example, it shows a dozen threads with new posts.

If I click the "mark read" button the page reloads, but the new posts icons are still there.  If I force-reload the page, they disappear.

Same if I try to view one of the threads with new posts.  For example if I go into off topic and click on the "new post" icon on the "what's bothering you" thread, I see the first new post (by beehatch).  If I go back to off topic, the thread is still flagged as having new posts, and if I click the icon again I go to the same "new" post, even though I have already viewed it.  If I force-reload the off topic index page, the icons disappear.

This is with Firefox on OSX.

And it won't let me edit the post.  I wanted to add that it happens with Chrome on OSX too, but when I typed that in the modify window and posted, it said I haev already made that post and was I trying to resubmit, which I wasn't.

to continue what Rowdy was saying, when I post in a section (like Media) it wont say that it's 'read' and will still list the 'newest' post as one before... for example in media atm I just posted in 'what you got in the mail' yet it still says the newest post is in 'post your topre keyboard' and that I've not read it

Maybe it's related to this, which still happens to me:

No, seems to be different problem.

can cpt or a mod edit the post and remove the player and see if that changes anything?

I tried to remove the video and I get this error:
