With all the disappointments with Devlin I am considering cancelling the entire group-buy and offering the sets once they're actually available, with representative images that I have taken myself.

Would that include Skidata or just the Rad-Away?

Does Devlin not able to provide colour samples prior to production?

Any solid color representations of the Skidata?

I wanna go in on this but after seeing that drastic change on Radaway its unsettling to base my decision off of renders..

I'm still excited for the SkiData Q series.  The sample picture looks fine.  And I'm going to be using only 1U keys for my ortho boards so I don't care about the other profile keys.

It's sad that it has come to this.  Hopefully a Chinese company can replicate this profile.

Last I checked you are able to fulfill SkiData orders. Can you explain why then you are considering not getting them to us? Seems to me like if the manufacturer ****ed up the product then you should have sufficient leverage to fulfill a portion of the order representative of the remaining demand for the product that they ****ed up. And if you can't, I would like to hear why not.

I was referring to the Rad-Away keyset, apologies for not making that clear. They are technically 2 separate group-buys

Yes, even after all the disappointments with Devlin, I'm still excited about the Skidata set. After the first update, I was certain I didn't want to get that QS profile mixed in my keyboard, so I came up with a unusual layout made up of a mix of a ISO (US?) and KBT Pure 60%:

161224-0

Keyboard Layout Editor

I'm really looking forward to use this layout. I must say I'm used to ISO-ES, ISO-UK and ANSI with different physical layouts.

That said, now for the disappointed me...

After the first update, I thought  Devlin should have made a commitment to make 2.25u and 2.75u Q series keycaps in the future, and for sure a Skidata add-on. They didn't, so no getting any standard ANSI/ISO layouts from them. Maybe they are fine just making some ortholinear keysets, more POS-compatible. I had committed to the GB so I decided not to cancel my order. Then I came up with my layout and, as I've already said, I'm really excited about it!

But this second update... I could expect quality issues, I could understand problems with molds which would justify missing sizes... But I can't believe this "dramatic color change" as rozakiin put it. Devlin must have been aware of it.

Well, anyway, I'm sorry you have to go through all this, Joe. It's nice you gave us the option to cancel orders with both updates.

In real life the failed Rad-Away is an amazing set, the colour is very desirable. Still a huge shame about the error of course but my faith in Devlin's keycap quality has been restored upon seeing the caps. They are very nice indeed.

Without the colour issues in the future I hope to bring a lot more K-series sets to market.

I second this.

Really am super interested in Skidata but I dont feel confident/safe in purchasing without seeing some actual pictures of them first (especially because of the rad-away incident)

There's a picture of the UK ISO subset of Skidata in the update from UKKeycaps. There might still be some quality concerns, but looks great (that @ looks strange, but it might be the picture).

The orange looks pretty bleached out, the black pretty grey and the A a bit wobbly, but except from this it looks nice. Thank you for the pic. I for myself like the grey/bleached out orange more then black/saturated orange, but now all my Ergodox mods won't fit. I guess I should buy the set first and then the mods in the future.
Do you got some pics from the Rad-Away-set too?

And why do you experiencing this stress overload? Is this whole group-buy situation too much?

(oh and by the way the S, the X and probably the Z key are upside down)

So I'm curious about something.  If the Nuclear sets colors were thrown off because of HEX values then how is the Skidata set so much closer to the intended look?  Shouldn't that be way off as well?

The skidata colors ARE also off (compare the photo with the renders and you notice the black is grey and the orange is pretty desaturated) and no I didn't get some kind of notification.

Skidata does normally have a grey base, just a very dark grey, but it was never black.  The Skidata+ buy used N9 from GMK, which is the same base color as the dark mods on a dolch set.  CR is the color code for GMK black which would be used on a WoB set.  So a proper skidata rendition should be grey.

That being said, the orange is washed out, and is not as saturated as expected, but not too bad either.

I made an account just to post. I've been a mech kb enthusiast for a while but just never joined geekhack, deskthority etc.

The faded orange legends to me is a complete dealbreaker.

This set was to replace the one I use at work, which is a dark grey orange set (forgot name) that had legends moulded too thin throughout the entire GB. This made the legends inconsistent and faded in most areas.

I think you can still sell the radaway set because the mint color is so nice if you do not compare and bash against the color it is intended to be. Would like to see that faded mint keyset on a silver planck.

I'm sure you got a life and a job outside these group buys, but no matter how busy you're a short "I'm too busy it will take another five days" or  "Sorry guys I'm unable to geht these keycaps sent at the moment" would probably look a lot better than what you do at the moment.

Yea, kind of. While I admire your courage to deal with Devlin, this constant delays and your non existent communication about it are reason enough for me to never buy something from mechsupply again. The keycaps should have been shipped on the 24th February, then March 3rd, then a lot of tiny uncommented delays and now we have March 24th and still only a few sets seem to be send. I bet it is some hustle to do these group buys, especially problematic ones like this, but constantly posting shipping dates, which didn't work out, to be non responsive after doesn't seem like the best way to handle it.

Compared to other group buy runners he has had better than average communication.  If you want an example of "non existent communication" check over on Feng's POM group buy that has been running since August 2015.  I bet less than 1% of the posts are his.

If there was any perceived lack of communication or delayed shipping please at least consider Devlin totally boned this guy, HARD.  If I were in his shoes I'd probably have a nervous breakdown.

I don't see why it should be ok to communicate once in a blue moon, cause there are people who doesn't communicate at all. Everybody is free to do what he/she likes, but I don't participate in any groupbuys from people which can't leave a short message, after missing another shipping date. I think it's really not much to ask for.

Just because there are plenty of straight up awful GB runners, doesn't make this okay.
Sure, it wasn't his fault (as far as we know, and let's leave it at that), delays are pretty much a given in this niche - but a quick update every few days or so isn't too much to ask.

It would be a whole different game if we knew each other personally and he was doing us a favor of sorts - but here's the thing:
we're not friends, and he collected our money. I consider that a business contract -
and if you're conducting business, there are some obligations to your customers.
Like regular updates, for example.

I don't want to sound rude, he's probably going through difficult times right now and I get that -
but can it be an excuse when, again, someone is doing business?
What would happen if I said
"Hey, I'm broke at the moment because personal reasons - but I'd like to order 2 sets, and I'll pay for those .. eventually. Here's my address, send them over when they're finished, and you'll hear from me .. sometime. Probably."?
It wouldn't exactly work, right?
