Title: Keyboard Storage
Post by: skcheng on Tue, 11 May 2010, 08:43:49
I know this topic has been brought up before.   Welly has his keyboard lycra cover, and pfink posted this link here to Uline.com

Uline Keyboard Mailer (http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-6496/Specialty-Boxes/19-1-8-x-9-1-8-x-2-3-16-Keyboard-Boxes)

But I was wondering if there are any nicer options?  Maybe some boxes with built in high density foam like I've received for some of my keyboards.  Or some of that memory foam which would mold to some of the unique shapes of our keyboards

I could build a keyboard cabinet, but that's not exactly space efficient.

It would also be nice if these boxes were instantly ready for shipping purposes.  Saves me the trouble of then searching for another suitable box.

Any help appreciated.

In a box, under the bed.  My Ms are stacked on top of each other in the closet.

For storage I use the boxes that HP uses to ship the keyboard & mouse for their servers. Perfect fit for IBM Model M but the boxes are not padded in any way.

I try to keep my collection limited to the keyboards I use.  Sometimes, that can be pretty hard.

Yeah, but that was a gift.  I wouldn't feel right getting rid of that one.

Webwit's mediocrity is disappointing. Any serious collector has something like this in their basement:

Unless I am mistaken these boxes are VERY close to the actual dimensions of a Model M, and would then not be suitable for actually shipping one...only storing (no room for packing material).

Ripster, you got it for the wrong console you fool.

That's why I got the racks. The tiles of boxes have been obliterated. You still have that problem, up to a maximum of four. So some kind of pharmacy cabinet or deposit box cabinet would be easier.

I love how they are perfectly lined up and stacked so neatly.  Even the labels were probably set down with a laser positioner.  Very anal......very nice!!

That's the thing.  They are snug.  I'm sure I have at least one of those from the many keyboards that I've purchased.  My favorite box is the one with the foam attached to the top/bottom.  Can't seem to find those online.

Uline also sells rolls of foam that can be cut down to fit the boxes:

Inspiring. I'll grow a beard and gonna get a little servant and a hat and cane just like that.

I'll serve if I can choose the keyboard I use on my own machine. Every day.
