Wooden keycaps
« on: Sun, 20 May 2018, 12:07:31 »
After several months of experimenting I've figured out how to reliably make dsa caps from wood. They aren't an exact match as you can see in the attached photos, but they work and have just enough tolerance built in for minimal offset issues (+/-1mm). I am curious if there is a desire to have laser engraved legends. That would probably take me a few more weeks to figure out since the caps aren't flat.

I'm also interested in finding a few beta testers who would be willing to cover the cost of shipping and materials for one or two caps.

Hopefully this is the right place to post this.

As long as the top of the cap has same height of dsa and as long as your woods caps have the same dimension each other (no different offset between your wood caps), i guess it will be fine.

Regarding laser, it is permanent on wood?

Laser engraving would be pretty permanent. It burns into the wood. I suspect that over time it could fade. I've seen laser engraved keychains that are years old, but those don't get touched as much as a keycap.

These look great. Any pictures of the underside?

What did you put on them to seal the wood?
