From what I have heard, the texture of a keycap is part of the mold and not part of a finishing process.So changing the texture of a keycap requires creating all new molds - probably the expensive "outer" molds in the doubleshot process.

Surface treatment (smoothing or texturing) adds another process(es), tool(s), and failure rate making the cost higher. Hence, making it as "why bother if you can make it simpler?"
No color choice but Filco makes a nice set. They are very smooth and have a bit of a 1990's look. They are not black/white but instead brown/ivory.
Is this a thing? I know that SP can make DSA smooth as SA, but are there any sets which exist in this smoothness?
Deep Space looks to be like this, but is it really?
