I just received my first Model M!
« on: Tue, 30 June 2009, 15:01:27 »
Wow, this keyboard is amazing! The keyfeel is so light, and it looks brand new.

The one I got looks to be in very good condition. Mine is a 52G9658 made in September of 1993. To my surprise it has removable key caps. I know this isn't the best model m, but it seems damn nice to me.

Now, can any one point me in the directions of a disassembly tutorial so I can inspect the innards?

Mine is one from this thread, but I actually had my eye on it before ever seeing the thread. For $21 shipped, it can't be beat.

Pictures (sorry about the quality):

If it's from 1993 then I believe it has drainage channels and is manufactured by Lexmark Intl.

Looks kind of funny with a flat panel display.

1. open can of coke
2. pour can of coke directly on keyboard

check if its working.

(alternately, though a much less suspense-filled method, you could see if it has these holes on the bottom:)

How drainage holes can be useful is demonstrated here by a keyboard lacking those.

Wow, Veronica Belmont isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Run it under water? That seemed like a good idea to her?

Actually it's not so much the monitor but the whole environment. The board certainly stands out more than on my desk.

Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

What are you trying to say?

I was thinking my bottle of Benadryl was standing out in the picture, not the keyboard. :biggrin1:

I'm not sure what that last video was about, my focus is drifting all the time, but she brought some pretty good points forward.

oooooh, thats bad ;)

ms belmont's presentation on the other hand raised my interest and contributed to my personal growth.

IBM obviously didn't think so.

An IBM 3290 terminal, with a monochrome plasma display.

Yuck...she uses a Crapple keyboard. They might look good but they're pieces of junk with sticky keys.

I hate Macintrashes...

After I finished my drop tests in order to prove the rivet design fail, I'll proceed to test my Model M collection by spilling coffee over the boards and carefully examine and describe the way they handle the liquid.

Please, share the results, don't forget to compare them with the ones you'll get with your datahand, HHK2 and Filco.
