[Fashion] Street Wear Thread
« on: Wed, 27 July 2016, 01:10:09 »
I don't know if I'm the only member of geekhack that loves fashion, but I thought this forum could use a cozy street-wear thread where people could talk about the latest things in male street-wear fashion (and female.) Let's see how this does  ;D

I'll start by sharing one of my favorite brands Nid de Guepes (a lovely street-wear company out of France.) They make awesome drapey fits and I hope someone else out there can appreciate their work. :D

I'm much too overweight to participate in fashion anything really.

Always enjoyed street wear, mostly eccentric tacky stuff that someone like Michael shantz would wear.

I have no sense of fashion whatsoever. I pretty much wear a t-shirt and jeans, both enormously oversized, all year long. The t-shirts and jeans are generally just the cheapest ones I could find and there's no real thought behind any of them, except one or two like a Doom t-shirt and a Quake one and a few I won with drinking challenges.

This week's moves in this space:

1) Picked up a pair of asics Oreos to proxy

2) Asked a family member to proxy a SaintSide shirt (which spins the Anti Social Social Club logo)

3) Asked another family member to check out the Carhartt Work in Progress sale for me

Yup, the old Reddit rules apply.

Step 1: Be attractive.
Step 2: Don't be unattractive.

can we all at least agree that r/streetwear is the worst sub? It's either wearing the most boring, uninspired **** or another person showing off their terrible brand. The last time I was on their someone had an album of their sick Disney shirt cops. And as someone who's into streetwear and Kpop, its always funny knowing that if there's an Asian dude in an inspo album there's like a 70% it's someone from BTS

What I've been feeling lately:

/r/streetwear is odd but /r/malefashionadvice is pretty shoddy at times as well.  I stick to styleforum and occasionally Ask Andy About Clothes for fashion discussions - though I'm mostly interested in men's dresswear as casual stuff for me is very simply jeans/t-shirts or shorts/t-shirts.

Let's just say that reddit has a serious fashion problem

I think it breaks down to a lot of people liking preppy and fashion-forward looks in /r/MFA.  That tends to keep me away as I'm not huge on either.  I end up using it more as entertainment value to watch them make some of the same fashion mistakes that were made in the 80s.

What I have found helpful on Reddit is /r/frugalmalefashion since getting a deal isn't a bad thing if you're in the market for something.  The only issue there is that you can sometimes get into is when regularly expensive things are discounted to a price that some still find high such as quality dress shoes from high-end makers.  They can't so easily grasp that a $1500 shoe that's on sale for $900 is a fantastic bargain for some.

I went through a period of buying quite a bit of streetwear because I was sitting on tumblr all the time looking at the new **** but buying online really does get expensive. Particularly in Europe. It's hard to find the kind of bargains you dig up in retail sales or TK Maxx (TJ Maxx). I find some pretty wild designer pieces marked down to nothing around here because your average Limerick man is never going to wear it. My favorite thing I got lately are navy Lacoste trousers with runners/sneakers embroidered on them. I also got a pretty interesting looking snapback by them made out of soft felt.

I really want more dad hats but the shipping from the US is doubling the price.

Penfield if anyone stocks in near you.
