Before the new Matias came out, Matias had stated that the switches will be available seperately. Has anyone heard any news on this?
-
Yeah, production is finished, waiting receipt on this side of the pond...
-
Wait so we could buy the switches separately any put them in another keyboard?

That was the idea. Matias made a big point of it.

The problem is what keyboard?
A really-not-so-good ducky? An old Alps maybe with an odd layout?

I think the is the bigger problem than is generally considered. If we had easy access to a Filco Zero or Leopold Lite in the USofA I would be personally more excited at the concept of new ALPS compatible switches being available. As I already have an AT101W with dampened creams in front of me, something more modern would be needed to peak my interest as a home for these switches.
The Ducky 1087XM is an alright keyboard, but I think I would like something of higher quality if I was going to spend the time and money on getting these new switches into a board I would use on a regular basis.

All the misfortunate owners of Filco Zero TKL keyboards with XM switches for a start. I've already sold mine off to someone who was going to replace the switches with blue complicated Alps.
If the switches are good, we should see people in the community making new boards. I don't think there's any fundamental difference between Cherry MX and Alps CM besides the pin spacing and PCB-to-plate distance.

also plate thickness and the caps (height?)... which means trying to design a machinable case that'll accept both will be interesting.
-
Keycap height doesn't matter to the case; I guess you could use washers to alter the plate mounting height?
-
Matters if you manage to make pressing the bottom row uncomfortable because you keep striking the case.

I have been planning on removing a keyswitch I broke from my ALPSulator, and replacing it with one. Actually, I'll probably replace them all.
