That looks really nice! I had the same problem with the gap when I used to plate foam and the case foam. So once I took out the case foam the gap disappeared.

ahhh I see, still kinda weird tho hahaha. I'll have to try and see if that affects the sound of the board. Thanks!

Yup I see the exact same thing on mine, even just with the case foam and no pcb foam. Doesn't necessarily affect the experience for me though.

Well, the foam that goes between the plate and the PCB is designed to not interfere with the distance between the two. If it wasn't, the switches wouldn't be able to be installed. That means it should have zero effect on the clearances between the top and bottom halves of the case.

Sucks that they apparently messed up the case foam thickness that badly, though.

It's also because there are no screws on that part of the case. It wouldn't be that big of a problem if that was the case.

Has anyone else had any issues with the default setup not allowing the 2nd layer to operate.  I think it should be the key to the left of M but from default it comes up as delete key.  Any suggestions?

There was some funkiness with that area of the hot-swap PCB in mine too when I first tested it. Just flash the default hex file (for the version you have, either soldered or hot-swap) from the VIA downloads page. Then you can use VIA to fix that area and add any other functionality you want.

It appears my unit is affected from the screw hole issue. Two holes are untapped and one isn't threaded correctly, all from the top section of the top mount.
Since this is my first mk, will this be a problem? Any suggestion?

Guys, How do you put the Maja into bios update mode for QMK Toolbox.  I can't find any manual or instructions online.
There's a reset button on the back of the PCB. It's a little circle. Once you have QMK toolbox open, the right hex file selected, and your PCB plugged in, hold down that button for a few seconds until QMK toolbox says it's been reset. Then you can flash it.

The Maja is complete and feeling really solid and great to type on.  I used Kiwi's and they enhance the solid response from the board that it naturally offers.  Topped off with GMK Ursa, this build has turned out better than I expected.

I was able to grab an extra from the KBDFans Black Friday sale. I appreciate the plate files being provided, but what is the plate thickness? Is it 1.5mm?

Thank you both for your help. I did reach out to KDBfans support but they didn't offer me a replacement top.
I ended up building it anyway to check if it's sturdy enough without 3 screws or if there's too much flexing.
It doesn't look problematic at the moment, so I'm a bit relieved.

One last thing: Vulcan this board is amazing, really sparked my love for custom mk so thank you for your work on the Maja!

I snagged one from the KBDfans sale but I didn't realize the PC boards have that inherent flaw of the gap :(

Can you elaborate? What flaw?

If you look at the previous posts in this thread you will see that the PC version has a gap on the back end of the case where there aren't any screws. Some are severe while others not so much but the fact is the gap is there. Apparently this is an inherent flaw of just turning a design made mainly for aluminum to PC without changes. Could have been seen with protos but I don't know if they did it.

The pic isn't mine but yeah this is what you might expect on a PC Maja

I too was fearful of this but after receiving my PC Maja, I had no gaps and no issues like any reported in this thread. By chance, did you not pat down the foam that touches the back side of the PCB? I made sure that was as flat as possible before assembling the case since I saw some people report gaps.

Thanks Vulcan, the product came out really great!

I just wanted to take the time to post my findings on the Maja.  This keyboard might just end up being the best board of 2020 and that is saying a lot.  It is superbly well made, heavy/solid and feels of quality but that is not the thing that makes it.  I suggest that anyone building theirs should build with Tactiles and don't worry about them being noisy, the Maja has the heft to deal with them.  The Maja produces a wonderful positive base for good tactiles to perform at their best.  Try lubing some pandas or kiwis for this board.  Your typing will become less harsh, more fluid and positive.  The end result is that you want to type even more than normal.  The position of the keys is dare I say it, almost perfect.

The Maja has surprised me, I expected a good Ergo for the collection, but what I got was a daily driver.

Much appreciated.
How did you get it to work? I'm still having no luck getting mine into reset mode following the instructions above and get the bellow message in QMK config whenever I attempt to reset it or even just flash the default settings. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? 257011-0

Follow the driver installation instructions here: https://beta.docs.qmk.fm/using-qmk/guides/driver_installation_zadig. You also probably don't want to use id80 firmware on your maja PCB.

That was it, thank you a thousand times! Apparently I had the wrong driver installed somehow. And thank you for noticing the nuance in the photo, I realized I had uploaded a misleading screengrab after the fact but I assure you I tried it correctly the first time. Anyways, for those of you who might be having this same issue follow the link provided above and follow the instruction but here's what fixed mine:

Make sure you have the latest version of Zadig,
open Zadig,
hold esc key on keyboard and plug it in,
click "options" in Zadig,
Select "List All Devices",
In the dropdown select "ATm32U4DFU",
Then to the right of the green arrow (if not green do not attempt to install a driver!) select "libusb-win32" and NOT: WinUSB,
select "replace driver",
once finished, unplug keyboard,
open QMK toolbox (close and reopen if already open),
select .hex file you wish to flash,
hold esc key and plug in keyboard,
flash

I assume it's the same if the keyboard didn't have a driver on it to begin with either. And once again superuser4, thank you for saving my evening with your help.

Can someone take a pic of the solder PCB breakout pins that are left of the usb port when upside down? I just want to see the labels. Working on a plan to add an rgb strip to my future maja

Thank you for adding this perspective. I built my Maja with lubed pandas, and the board has been phenomenal. I'm fairly new to the hobby, so it's nice to know that this is an outlier in terms of build/sound quality vs. expectations. I was worried it was bias from upgrading from a Tofu, but it seems that this board is just really good :)

anyone having issues with their maja just resetting the key layout by it's self? twice in a row i've woken up in the morning and booted up my pc and my maja has either had the left ctrl and caps lock swapped for some reason (not swapped in via, just the input is swapped despite the key not being switched in via) or the entire board has reset back to the default key layout. noticed sometimes when unplugging and replugging that the rgb would freeze up on my board and then after replugging again, it would reset. getting pretty annoying, is my pcb defective?

Try to resetting EEPROM with qmk toolbox.

I gave it a try and then reflashed using qmk, but now VIA doesnt recognize the device. i feel like the issue is related to via since opening via when the board was having issues would sometimes resolve it. any way to get it to work with via again though?

Make sure the firmware you flash is the via firmware.
Download it from the site.
Also make sure via is up to date.

Does anyone know if there are extras of the rubber dots that go between the keyboard and the desk? I may have misplaced any I had. On a related note does anyone know if I should apply adhesive to them to get them to stick to the keyboard. One of my rubber dots has been rubbed out of placed and wont stick anymore
