Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in updates. Life has been crazy as per usual and we are both pulled in many directions.

Knoblesse is currently working on getting all of the Paws flashed and QCing them, but it's a slow process with day job, family and other obligations.
Things are moving as fast as we can currently and we will keep you updated :)

We appreciate your patience along the way!

Hey everyone! Time for another update!

All pcbs have been flashed with default ZMK firmware! This means we are ready to ship.

Unfortunately as flashing was being completed we discovered an issue with the RGB LEDs. Due to a soldering issue from the factory, the LEDs will not be functional without some resoldering.

This is unfortunately something that would take quite a long time with the amount of PCBs that were ordered, as it can take around 10 minutes per pcb.
We are truly sorry for this issue and for having to send out an incomplete product. To this end, we are refunding all orders $5 for the cost of the RGB LEDs.  If you are not satisfied with this solution, we are more than happy to offer you a full refund. Please note that if you so desire, you can enable the LEDs with this process:
1. Remove MCU using hot air/reflow (there are hidden pads so you can't simply use solder wick)
2. Add solder to all pads (including underside pads) on both the MCU and PCB
3. Resolder MCU using hot air/reflow.

Again, our apologies for the error, but we hope you all still enjoy your Paw

We are planning to begin shipment 1 week from monday, so be on the lookout for notifications :)

Thats a bummer about the RGB LEDs, especially for people like me with limited soldering experience that wanted RGB. $5 honestly feels a bit cheap instead of resolving the issue completely for the people the joined...

So sad that the rgb is gone, and I kinda need it. Order #1049 would like a refund.

Please reach out to support@aeternus.co with your order number and we will get that refunded asap :)

A video tutorial of the fix would be appreciated.

That is something that others have requested as well and we will definitely provide!

https://help.aeternus.co/paw/ I'm using this guide but it's still not working for me. Anyone have any luck?

Also really disappointed to see that the LED issue requires specialized tools instead of just a soldering iron, thats pretty out of reach for most people that wanted to fix it themselves, and a $5 refund for a feature just lost is pretty insulting..

I followed that link (thanks KurageOuji!) and successfully installed the new firmware. I was able to see the Paw on my devices but I haven't been able to successfully connect to it. I've cleared profile 0 and tried other profiles with no luck. The computer sees "Paw" and tries to connect, connects for a split second, then tells me to try connecting to the device again.

Hey Everyone! Sorry for the delay in communicating here.
All Paws have officially been shipped! If for some reason you believe yours has not or you have not received any tracking info, please contact support@aeternus.co with your order number!

We are hearing reports of issues getting Paw connected via bluetooth to some PCs. This seems to be focused on windows machines mostly, but may affect other OS's.
We thought that we had ironed out all connection issues before shipping so this is definitely a bummer but we are actively looking into it.
We do have one issue solved, so if your Paw is showing in Windows as just a MAC address, you can flash the new firmware here https://help.aeternus.co/paw/#connectivity-notice and see if that solves your issue.

We are also working on getting a QMK flashable branch setup, which will also be available with instructions at https://help.aeternus.co/paw

Appreciate your patience!

Thanks all!

I'm having tons of connectivity issues, even after flashing the new firmware. Tested on 2 computers, Windows and Mac. On Windows the hotswap PCB works, but the soldered one blips in and out of the available devices list and it won't connect when clicked. On Mac, the hotswap PCB is listed in available devices but won't connect at all, and the soldered PCBs says it's connected but doesn't work then disconnects after a while.

I tested both hot-swap and solderable PCB on my windows 10 20h2 build and mac os, solderable works fine on Mac, but both have issues dropping the connection to pc after pairing time to time. I tried unplugging the battery and flashing the firmware, and that issue will come back. Please let us know when new firmware drop fixing this issue.

I sent both of my 2 Paw macropads to a builder to build and assemble and he said he's having an issue with the fitment upon reassembly. Basically the PCB hits the side/corners of the case so he can't fit them back together. The picture here should show what he means: https://imgur.com/a/8cPU2Pv
Is this a user error or manufacturing error?

Hey! The builder should be able to easily insert the pcb by angling the usbc port into its hole first, then the rest of the pcb. Hopefully this image helps https://imgur.com/a/cdp2VD7

If you're having trouble connecting your device via Bluetooth you can try a few things. Make sure you're on the latest firmware (available on the help page listed below), if that doesn't fix the issue try one of the following:

1. Try plugging in your device to your computer, attempt to pair, and then unplug it and test Bluetooth connectivity. Sometimes the USB cable can act as a large antenna to help amplify the initial connection process.
2. You can try using the QMK fork (link below). Some people have reported greater success pairing using this over ZMK. Unfortunately we cannot provide a compiled firmware due to licensing restrictions (we're working on a legal way around this).

So I got them back from the builder as he had a further issue after aligning the PCB—the top case is slightly past the bottom case, which makes it so that I can’t screw them together. I confirmed this by inserting the PCB the way you mentioned, and here is a picture of the issue I was describing: https://imgur.com/gallery/KPhxEJF

Well I'm pretty sure I'm one of the last people, if not the last, to recieve my Paw (arrived last week) and got to opening it and building it today, and I have to say it is cute...if a little disappointing.
It arrived all sticky and grubby, covered in black marks all around the edges as if it had been knocking around a factory for a while - it seems to have come from the laser cut stacked foam packaging all rubbing off onto the outer case, so a pretty bad design there. It feels like a cheap out on packaging anyway, a lovely little cardboard presentation box with a typical tried and true cut-foam insert would have been nicer.

When I came to unscrew the two halves; the screws were in very tight for a polycarb case, and lo and behold all of the screw threads have cracks around them - it's not so bad that they're stripped, but it's not nice to look at and makes me wary about taking it apart again.

I didn't have any issues putting the case together however, it took like 5 minutes to build.

It's a shame about the LEDs not working, especially with the case being transparent it would have been a little plus. Also asking us to reflow the MCU to fix this ourselves is a bit rubbish, I'd hazard a guess to say that most people would have no experience in doing this let alone have a preheating/hot air station.

Can't comment on the bluetooth functionality as I haven't got a battery that fits atm, but after reading the issues in previous posts I really don't think I'll bother. Also ZMK is currently pretty limited and a bit of a nightmare to use, so flashing it with a custom keymap to use as a macropad feels like such a chore compared to the likes of QMK or VIA, especially since ZMK doesn't fully support macros yet.

So overall it'll make a nice display piece as it's a genuinely cute little thing, but given the choice again I'd save my $190 ($40 international shipping) and steer clear.

Hey!

I’m sorry to hear about the issues you encountered.

Shipping must have done a number on its way to you as I don’t think we’ve had any other reports of the packing material rubbing off so badly. Really sorry to hear that, it should come off quite easily.

Can you please reach out to support@aeternus.co with your order number and some photos of the screws/threads?

Apologies again on the LEDs. We know it was not a simple or easy fix for most people.

We hear you on the ZMK, it has been not at all what we expected. If you can message me on discord @ dingusxmcgee_#1691 I’d love to see if we can help you out.
