How do we find out if we are one of the first 50 :P?

Well you hope that you don't regret being lured by a keychain that you won't get.
And then when you do get told that you have it, you get miserable because you realize you just got lured by a keychain.  :p

What if we wanted a keychain anyway, but didn't have an excuse to get one?

I love the gif wars as much as anyone else and I can't speak for Bunny but I'd appreciate it if we could get back on topic discussing the GB.  I can't say much since I participated for a bit. :))

Same page as you. I'm probably going to have to sell some things to get this thing. I really don't want to be hoarding too many keycap sets when I only have so many keyboards, and so lil' money :(

Bunny stated before that symmetry really works best with 60% and is not so much of a fan of it on 100%.
I guess it was a little cut he wanted to make. It makes sense for him to want to save money that way since if he gets under 250 orders I assume he will pony up for the rest.

IIRC Bunny said no, since most people are concerned about symmetry are on 60% the idea is that you can use an Esc in that spot.

thanks for the clarification guys. i didn't follow that discussion when it happens then but it's pretty much what i have thought to be the case.
still a very beautiful set, but i'm still curious about the colors used in this set, 2M as base alpha and purple (whatever the code is) for the legend, CC (not sure if it's CC or 2B) for mod base and cyan (UN6037) as mod legend? anyone know?

btw, love the gifs here!  :))

How about a kidney?

Maybe do some old ladies a favor or two. That should net you a few dollars.

Also the thread crapping is getting ridiculous.  But I will reserve judgement as I am entertained.

I could be wrong on this but I feel like I remember hearing the colours were way off on the renders received for Ivan's Dolch buy, that might be why Bunny hasn't included it.

Possible, but I own hyper from SP and have a GMK color ring, and it doesn't seem possible.

Well I doubt they're going to be able to get an exact match but they should be able to get pretty darn close to the colourway originally done with SP.

edit: forenote - i DO trust bunny, I know he won't ship us crap. I more want to know how he's achieved the colors.
I understand that, but for anyone with a GMK color ring, or even a picture of the color ring, knew that the teal was the cyan from CMYK, in fact, that was discussed in the dolch thread. But there's too much for everyone to read everything on this site.
I'd like color codes, as have been provided with every other buy ever.
I don't think that's much to ask.

That cyan that Radio linked is the closest color teal. I guess gmk purple is okay. I would like to know what greys are being used.

edit: to fix quote pyramid also cause i do trust bunny

Does anyone here know if ijprest did accurate colour samples of the GMK chips for his layout editor like he did with the SP ones? <EDIT> - Ah, just noticed the hint text on the site for the GMK colours: "These are samples from a picture posted on GeekHack. No attempt at color-correction has been made."

The SP colours he uses for the background of the keycaps is very accurate, but the keycap tops are made lighter by adding the keytop texture over the base colour (it should rather have a darker keycap skirt texture so the top remains the correct colour).

Yeah I tried using that site last night, I actually think the GMK color swatches are screwed up. Couldn't find purple at all and the black is dark green.

Being new to all of this, is there a link somewhere explaining all of this GMK hype? At first I thought it was like a different type of plastic, but quickly realized (simply by reading the page ...) it's a manufacturer, similar to Signature Plastics (but they do much more). Is it something that's known to be a better producer of keycaps or is there more to it that I'm missing?

Aditionally I noticed on your older group buys you had break downs for purchases, for example
70 dollars for 60%
105 for full keyboard
40 for numpad
ect ect.

Is this something you're no longer going to be offering or are these current three GB's just not featuring these options?
Finally is there any chance of any ergodox group buys in the future? I recently purchased one and with the only real option for custom caps being the blank PBT's from SP I assume it will be more difficult to learn the layout without printed caps.

there are a couple keys we will add depending on any donations with orders

including the r3 ctrl key, and non iso front printed legends

To clarify, this isn't you saying "if someone wants this donate money with your order and we'll add it to yours" this is "everyone should donate and once we've got total donation of $XXX.XX everyone will get the extra caps correct?

Short answer for a comparison between SP and GMK are that GMK caps are WAYYYY thicker. GMK also uses the same tooling that Cherry keyboards used in the 80's which is one of the main reason people like them.

This set is being done as one pack rather than splitting up into smaller sets, GMK has a minimum order of 250 for all sets so it makes more sense to roll everything into one pack otherwise we miss MOQ most of the time.

I actually brought my question from the ctrlalt artisan subforum and after reading through more of this I definitely understand the need for a single set for this order, wonder if it's something that will be added to future order  I only use 60%'s and love all 3 of the GB's on their website right now but really have a hard time spending $90+ when I'll only end up using like 55% of the keys after considering the extras.  I may break down and do it though. Guess I'll have to see where my expenses end up before this ends!

Finally is there any chance of any ergodox group buys in the future? I recently purchased one and with the only real option for custom caps being the blank PBT's from SP I assume it will be more difficult to learn the layout without printed caps.

Honestly man you won't regret it. For the little extra money over an SP set you get much higher quality caps. So much so that after buying my first set I sold all my SP sets like a week later to fund a second set of GMK beauties :)

Got four sets now and no end in sight!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

its live

there are a couple keys we will add depending on any donations with orders

including the r3 ctrl key, and non iso front printed legends

To clarify, this isn't you saying "if someone wants this donate money with your order and we'll add it to yours" this is "everyone should donate and once we've got total donation of $XXX.XX everyone will get the extra caps correct?

Also being new to all of this, is there a link somewhere explaining all of this GMK hype? At first I thought it was like a different type of plastic, but quickly realized (simply by reading the page ...) it's a manufacturer, similar to Signature Plastics (but they do much more). Is it something that's known to be a better producer of keycaps or is there more to it that I'm missing?

Aditionally I noticed on your older group buys you had break downs for purchases, for example
70 dollars for 60%
105 for full keyboard
40 for numpad
ect ect.

Is this something you're no longer going to be offering or are these current three GB's just not featuring these options?

Good to hear, with all the hype I assume you're not the only one who loves these GMK sets.  So with everyone always talking about how PBT is king, and ABS is low quality, with these being ABS why is it everyone loves them? I know the main concern with ABS is shine, and I've seen some people in here say that they've been using GMK caps for years with no shine, so disregarding that the other main difference I've heard is how they feel, I've actually never owned any ABS caps so I have nothing to compare the difference in feel. Finally I've heard complaints about sound, I believe this is mainly a concern with thin ABS vs thick PBT but want to see if there's going to be noticeable difference in sound between my current SP PBT caps and GMK ABS?

Thanks for all the help btw :)

Having one full set guarantees it will be compatible with most keyboards without complicating logistics. In the end it means we should be able to get all of our orders a little faster than if we had a bunch of options.

GMK's a German company and I keep hearing good things about their keycaps so you probably won't regret trying out this set. I've got my eyes on the GMK Triumph Adler as well.

or the colors taken from the default color chips?

wallet hacking month :(
these are too beautiful to pass

Yes, what are the colors?
Also if you have a price, surely you have a GMK render?

Mockup is on the Ctrl.Alt site.

That same mockup is in the OP.
Where is the GMK render?
What are the colors?
Don't gloss over what I say.

Edit: not sure what this gif war is, I find it extremely annoying.

firstly, we always do our own mockups, is to keep everything we present consistent

we made that choice long before any gmk render, and the gmk renders are like crazy washed out and not representative of their colours

we chose to use the same purple as the purple mod kits, and the same cyan as cmyk, so poeple can use those mod packs if they want and they will match perfectly, and then we used 2 different greys, i will take some pics of the actual gmk colours when i get up shortly for comparison, so they may not be exact, but they are within the same margin of error all our mockups are in relation to actual sets

Hey Bunny,

While I've ordered both sets, I kind of forgot about the donation. Could I send an additional donation through PayPal?

you dont have to do that at all sir, but if you really want to, shoot me a pm and i can send you my paypal details

Hi Bunny, any chance a 6.5u spacebar can be included?

sadly we arent considering adding that at this time, its a very very small usage scenario and im not even sure if gmk offer it

as for all the pms about paypal invoices

i hadnt done it on the first few, but i need to add a couple dollars on to paypal invoices from now to cover the paypal fees, their rate is considerably higher than what stripe charge me to take payments

here are the colours

obviously you cant get a perfect match, but they are very very close in person

one of the main reasons we wanted to do this so much, was so it matches perfectly with cmyk/cmyw and the purple mod kits that already exist, so we can see so really unique combinations

so although their are some very minor differences, it will certainly maintain the same overall aesthetic

Bunny, what's the color code on the teal cap?
I haven't seen that one on any of the color chip photos I have.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

UN6037 mate!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.
