SP crap bag trades and sales
« on: Fri, 02 August 2013, 00:11:39 »
I'm looking for an f4, A and a dvorak J from the round 4 spherical set.

Have keys from the previous year's crap bags...  including rgb caps.

How much for RGB?  Are they ABS?  DCS profile?  So many questions... :D

Perhaps more importantly, do you have a full RGB set or just a couple caps?

hoggy in particular: can we use this thread for everyone's crap bag WTB/WTS/WTT?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Anyone have advice on how to ship a single keycap? Unfortunately I have tons of cardboard boxes and packing material, but nothing suitable for shipping something so small. Does USPS accept "lumpy" padded envelopes for First Class Mail?

(I'll get back to you kenmai9 once I can get this shipping thing figured out)

For sure they do! You can buy any padded envelope or just use a letter envelope and wrap the cap with bubble wrap.

Looking for reject (but correct shape/finish) F-row caps.  Would also be interested in any super random 1.75 R-4 or super random green 1x1 R-4 caps.

I am good with shipping in a regular envelope with a single layer of bubble wrap.   :thumb:
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

Would people like a system where they can submit a "Want to Buy" for single keycaps only, not to replace the classified forums in anyway.

Users with crap bags, or at any time can check that the thread and contact the user who WTB that keycap.

Once a user's requirement is fulfilled they can remove the submission.

What do you think?

Can always contact meli$$a at SP to inquire any leftovers of a particular key that youre looking for. Though you probably have to make it worth their time to search for a single keycap or a handful of keycaps, otherwise the quick and easy answer to your inquiry is "no."

I always pictured mountains of crap keys lying around on the floor and someone coming along with plastic bags and a shovel and loading them up to sell us. Then the floors are squeaky clean again.

We understand what youre talking about, but the current format is not easy for people to quickly assess what everyone else wants and determine if you have the goods. Why should we dig through 50 pages of a thread to find out that user boofooturkey wants a pink monkey keycap? In this instance, i doubt boofooturkey will get what he/she is looking for without creating a separate wtb thread.

I was thinking more along the lines of a webapp or google docs form+spreadsheet.

A table like visual where it is easier to search rather than go through pages.

No I think they take a crap bag a walk to certain bin types and that is why I got a ton of 5s 8s and other identical key type keys in DSA, SA, and DCS. I also got a ton of 2.75 shift keys of all types, and hardly any DCS in the asdf row (3 I think)

A want list is possible, but it will need to be a bit on the freeform side.
A list of stuff for sale / trade would benefit from pictures.

If you have stuff for sale, people here will happily hunt you down...

Let's give it a few days and see what happens.

Why not a complete listing system where a user puts up an item they want to buy or sell. No thread, just like a shop of sorts, but useable by everyone and without the conventional payment system.

I just started pm'img people for keys as they posted the photos of them but got no bites yet......hapsters and phantom keys is that too much to ask :p

Why not a complete listing system where a user puts up an item they want to buy or sell. No thread, just like a shop of sorts, but useable by everyone and without the conventional payment system.

like a keycap trading post?

seems like a lot of work and it's hard to say if you could get everyone to cooperate

I was thinking an official geekhack thing, but I could probably do it if I had a domain/hosting. I'm sure it would be trivial to keep it funded via donations with the generosity of this community, and I'd be totally willing. The only thing is it would need a second account, whereas if geekhack just hosts it it could probably all work from one system.

I'm not terribly familiar with google docs but can we make a form that will add your user ID and what you're looking for to a list that other people can quickly open up and see?  And then people with keys can add to a different column and make a list of what's available, then come here and post pictures and we can search the thread by username to find them?

I don't claim this as my idea, I think it's what someone else was getting at originally, but I thought I'd explain my vision of how it might work to add to this discussion.

I still have a standing offer to buy Fn/Esc Row DCS keycaps that you guys don't want for 5 cents a cap. Doesn't seem like much but when you figure in that most bags have hundreds of them it can easily pay for the bag and you get to keep whatever you want to use. If you're interested just shoot me a PM.

Edit: Also I just remembered that last time I did this I traded some polish keycaps for them instead, that works too, but don't do like last time and not send your keys because I never got my end of the trade. ::)

I would be more than willing to help develop a system like the one suggested for GH, sort of our own CraigsList. Users can list what they want, and what they have. Easy to search and find.

A form + Google Doc can work fine as well for now, however problem is updating it whenever someone has found their treasure.

Or we can have just a spreadsheet for members above x posts and hope they don't mess up the sheet when making changes.

The problem with the chat is that it hides people's wants with filler conversation. No one who is selling caps will want to read page after page of posts to try to find one post for someone who wants to buy that cap...

But the beauty of the chat means that anyone wanting to sell just has to post a photo and the chat keeps the thread at the top of the list...

I always pictured mountains of crap keys lying around on the floor and someone coming along with plastic bags and a shovel and loading them up to sell us. Then the floors are squeaky clean again.

Now I've got that picture permanently in my mind of how they arrange these crap bags.

Just got my bag but just a bunch of crap... lol... as expected I guess. I will post some pictures later if anyone wants anything.

Feel free to post pics here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46475
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Shipping in CONUS is looking to be about $3.00, including shipping materials and postage.

I'm interested in two 1.25x DSA plum keys with the same legend.  I've got a mountain of 1.0x DSA stuff to trade, but if you can tell me what you want, I can try to dig it out specifically.

Regarding The Blue Hapster: since three people messaged me the first day I mentioned it, you'd have to make it very worth my while, because it's so damn cute. :>  You know how tall a Row 1 keycap is... think a stack of 50,000 won notes the same height.

If you got some blank pink caps, I'd love to get them off of you.  Same with a 1.25x white on black diamond cap, the cap with five dots on it (the glider cap), hapster, other interesting/unusual caps and some Alps caps if you get any.

Glider, for reference:

I don't know if it will be soon enough, but the Tai Hao GB is likely to result in a glut of unwanted 7x blue space bars (also black, red, green and yellow).

Anyone got any num-pad keys for the CCNG set? I just need two for a 65% design, any of the numbers from 1-3 (or the delete key next to the 0 key) and any of the 4-6 keys.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

And anyone else who has pm'd me or asked already to check stuff, if you got no reply you can feel free to PM me again. PM's get lost and burried.

I also have not completely sorted everything in my bags yet.

Interested in a 6.25 spacebar matching the R4 spherical set.  Grey or blue, don't really care which color just want a spacebar that will actually match the profile.

Actually, I just fished this out to check on it, and realised that is a non-MX. Sorry to get your hopes up. Got a few of this type, pretty low profile.

Depending on what those six keys are, that could be a turn off for the bag.  Technically, removing some caps and keeping them does count as "going through it".

Does anyone have a standard white on black caps lock?  Or any caps locks for that matter.

I'd also love some 1.75 shift keys if anyone has any.

If anyone has a black on beige or black on cream |\ and Enter key, I'd love to get it from you.  It can also be a close color.  Apparently the Moogle I got a while back came with neither.

Hi crap-bag holders!

I'm looking for some DSA-Retro keys... full post here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=51006.0

If anyone can help me out from their crap bags, let me know.  I think I saw a few F5's in some of the pictures... hopefully they're still available.

Thanks,
