Unisys Keyboards - Quality?
« on: Thu, 09 April 2009, 16:30:17 »
I'm looking at a Unisys Model M copy on ebay, model # PCK-101-KBD. The buyer is clueless as to what clicky means, and for the life of me I couldn't find any info online about the keyboard. One person in a message board said that it isn't buckling spring, and that's about all I've found. Does anyone know if Unisys produced anything worthwhile? I really like the look of this model, especially the text on the buttons...and it's cheap. It's ps2 w/a removable cord, and basically looks like an M.

That $55 price tag looks a little inflated to me.

Yes, Keytronic. You don't want it. I got it in a bundle. It's in the rubber dome pile now.

I know it's not a model M, but to my eyes it looks just like one. So if it is a keytronic, that means it's rubber dome?

We posted simultaneously, thanks for saving me the time. Yeah the price is way high, here is what I was looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=350180141293
The seller makes great deals, and I was thinking of taking it for $10 shipped. I'm glad that I didn't buy this one on impulse.

Maybe you're mixing things up here, but Unicomp makes new Model M "clones" (made on original machines, so they're not really clones).

No, I knew that. I just thought that this Unisys was an M copy because of the way it looks.

That's why you always check GeekHack first. ;)

JK.  Most of us have made similar mistakes in buying keyboards.  I bought a NMB a while back thinking it was alps, but it was rubber dome...
