Anyone else find themselves obsessed with playing it?
http://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/
Right now:
Paperclips: 137,744,829,354,811,000
Clips per Second: 466.00 trillion
I even dreamed about paperclips last night
Mind you, those figures are hopelessly out of date by the time I've typed the rest of this!
-
ok I like this
-
I'm playing it at home too (got in trouble for that last night - late for bed), but I haven't got as far as launching the drones yet.
The game is so different.
I don't know what's happening any more.
Send help!

After you posted that link in the other thread, I had played it for a few hours and left it running all day. Then I accidentally closed out of the window/sad. Probably for the best haha

Okay I'll be that guy. The point of this game is what exactly?

reminds me of http://dogeminer.se/, but this is better since I can do it at work... :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

It's always nice to see an incremental game, that isn't a bad clone of Cookie Clicker. (Okay, the list is very short actually: it's Trimps and other but lesser Civ clones.)
Unfortunately, it's very poorly optimized and doesn't even appear to support saving (either through an exported string, or local storage). Yeah, I'm spoiled by Trimps and Cookie Clicker.

It saves your progress and continues on next time you open the tab.
You are DOOMED!

Oh damn really?? Welp.. Have a nice weekend..

I've now got nearly 8000 probe exploring the universe, but still haven't explored any % of it.

I think I messed up, I went full automation too early. I didn't have nearly as many paperclips as you lol
-
Yeah if I don’t get any % of universe explored then I’m giving up. Already have trillions of probes exploring while I stamp out the drifters.
-

You will start to. I finished it today. I wish there was more

Uh, guys. Those games take months…

...yeah
I'm on pace to finish it in about half an hour now :-\

My limiting factor right now is how much yomi I can gain. Is there any strategy that yields more? or are they all pretty much the same?
-
it's almost 5am and I just started playing :'(
-
Everything is paperclips. Thank you rowdy. :thumb:

tbh, in the beginning not too much. basically wait til you get the perk that automatically runs tourneys for you. Then you just leave it on lol.. day and night..
I should add I'm on play through 2 lol

Good on you for going for round 2. After I reached 100% I just eliminated the drift chance and called it a day. That said, it was 8 hours well spent.
-
0.000000000008% of universe explored
It has begun!
This is at home, btw. The work one I just left running Friday afternoon.
Paperclips: 11,379,174,517,444,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
lol what do these numbers even mean any more? all i can see are paperclips and more paperclips and more
-
started last night. reminds me of adventure capitalist. no point other than to keep going. so addicting
I should restart on my pc since I can't keep my phone on long enough.
-
I walk away for 5 minutes and this happens:
100.000000000000% of universe explored
> Universal Paperclips achieved in 9 hours 14 minutes 17 seconds|
Paperclips: Paperclips: 29,999,999,999,999,900,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

well it's relatively passive, I just leave my browser open at home lol. Anyway, in the upper corner it keeps track of world and sim level. I'm on world 1 sim level 2. I don't know that it's any different than the previous one, I wasn't paying attention before, however I'd like to see if it says anything different this time around. If not, maybe I'll call it quits. whooooo knooooows

I guess I just took the non-passive approach lol. Started last night then finished this morning
-
That was a great friggin' game! The ending is great (I did not accept) and I'm glad I took that wild ride. :thumb:
-
I've finished it twice now (once at home, once at work).
A colleague also finished it, but opted for a different ending, so I've got to play it through again to experience that ending too.
-
And I advance to a simulated universe inside my universe.
-
Damn you Rowdy! :)) The Paperclips game is about as addictive as Kingdom Of Loathing

lol did you just leave it on?
I screwed up, it let me reallocate my points, so in order to cut the game short I dumped all my points into the max operations points stat, but I was one short with 69, so then I had to sit there and make a bajillion clips until I hit my next talent marker. I managed to slowly turn it around with 2 points into processors.. ugh gonna be awhile.

It was left running overnight once or twice.
The first time was not long after I started playing. I had the investment thingy running and the next morning thought I had around $300K, but it turned out to be $300M!
I tried leaving it running over a weekend while exploring the universe, but it was still 0.0000000000000% on Monday morning.

Cookie Clicker all over again.
-
I thought maybe Paperclips was a ploi to mine cryptocurrency through the browser but after a time of loading my network remained silent and my cpu/gpu unspiked. The can have all my furry cookies. It's fine.

I thought maybe Paperclips was a ploi to mine cryptocurrency through the browser but after a time of loading my network remained silent and my cpu/gpu unspiked. The can have all my furry cookies. It's fine.
An interesting thought, I hadn't considered that.
But I also didn't notice any unexpected bouts of network traffic or spikes in CPU/GPU usage/temperature.
And that's with sometimes 2 or 3 games going on at once.
-
Didn't even know this was an option

It's an incremental game, of course there's some soft reset option.

The game is 100% local. You can play offline if you cache the javascript for it.

You worked on the shark game? I had the whole office playing for two weeks solid. Very amusing in addition to being addicting.

I chose to destroy the enemy this go around, but I'm sad that I did.. because now it's over and I have to start again to get to sim level 4. or do i?
-
I played for a couple days then got bored. Good thing since it is a time hog

Reminds me a lot of this shark game I've killed too much time with: http://cirri.al/sharks/
Legit quote in some of our source:
//
You worked on the shark game? I had the whole office playing for two weeks solid. Very amusing in addition to being addicting.
No, just a minor fish obsession, and a kind of running joke.

Having the same problem :(

Just turned auto-wire buying on again.
Kinda funny how slowly the game seems to start off, then it ramps up pretty astronomically.

There's always a dead space in phase 2 for me. Need 5 oct clips to go to phase 3, which doesn't flow like phase 1->2 for me.

Such a shift in approach though.
I started again in a VM 'cause it thinks its window is on top all the time even if I minimise the VM window, and I'm about to release the HypnoDrones! :D :D :D

My favorite stage was definitely after releasing the Hypnodrones. While the stock trading and money was fun, the power balancing just struck a chord with me. Plus we are a hive-mind by that point and who doesn’t enjoy a good hive-minding

Yes, the balancing of price per clip gets a bit annoying at times, especially before auto-wire-buying.
Once you get past that you can leave it running and it will just accumulate things.
Left it running over the long weekend and had over 400,000,000 creativity

This project is endlessly repeatable as long as the conditions are met (that is, until you reach a max trust higher than your desired probe trust), with random names (given from the names of battles you have fought), with increasing costs and fixed rewards of 10,000 honor each.

It has a wiki?!?!
Shouldn't be surprised these days, nearly everything has a wiki :))
I found out for myself that the Threnodies seem to pretty much keep going indefinitely.
I got to Threnody for the Heroes of Berezina 12 and creat kept going up by 10,000 each time and yomi by 1,000.
I got to 1,500,000 creat and 150,000 yomi required (with loads of each to spare), and gave up.
Now I'm in universe 1 sim level 3 (in this particular browser on this particular operating system).

I finished the game :thumb:

Not a particularly efficient run - anyone done better?

I think my run was just under 8.5 hrs. I thought I took a picture of it but I can’t find it anywhere. Make it under 7!

That's the plan! But probably not while I'm at work ;)

Seen that, instinctively applied half the ideas before I read the article, and adopted a few of the others since.
