Unnamed 75% + LH numpad design I've been working on
« on: Thu, 14 May 2020, 10:41:10 »
Hello, gotten inspired by all the left handed numpad designs coming out lately and wanted to post my take on it here. Appreciate any feedback on this, haven't been into keyboards that long but I like designing stuff. Special thanks to the guys in the Hex keyboards Discord, I started on this after seeing the 6C.

The layout:

Reasons: I like full-sized keyboards, I like the idea of a left handed numpad to increase mouse space, and I like the nav keys squished into a column as done on 75% keyboards.  1U blocker left of the escape key because I find myself angrily mashing that a lot in various programs and like easy access to that.

Case design:

Retro(?) design with inspiration from the older Cherry boards - sloped front chin, big forehead, big chamfered seam between the case halves.

242536-3

6.5 deg typing angle
242538-4

USB port exits through a brass weight on the back, using the ai03 daughterboard.

Gasket mount?

Indicator lights/ logo thing in this corner, could use better ideas for this.

Todo:
Learn how to design PCB
Research gasket mount and plate design
Address any feedback
Come up with cool name
Prototype?
